Partially concieved based on a consversation between Natalie and Jon about the UK band Red Monkey; months later Natalie's band, Mother Courage was playing their final show when it was proposed to start this new band. Tom (the drummer of Mother Courage) had left his bass lying around the house for a month or so, long enough for Jon to get aquainted with playing a bass. With Natalie singing and Jon (also in The Great Clearing Off) on bass and singing, they worked out a couple of songs and asked Bill Law (The Great Clearing Off)to step in on the drums. On days when he wasn't busy with the bar exam, they managed a few practices in the early summer, during which they recorded their demo Immediately after, Bill moved to Cleveland, and The Third Wheel went on hiatus. Some months later, Tom took over on drums.
