CD Reviews for June, 2003
Dream to Make Believe - Armor for Sleep
The CD opens with a very nice, dark 35-second instrumental and then explodes into the title track. The lead singer’s voice is so smooth and delicate and you can hear the emotion and sincerity in his voice as he sings each line. The whole album really revolves around the title. It is about dreams, hopes, depression and is a beautiful record. Some standout tracks are My Town, Frost and Front steps, and of course the title track but it is way too hard for me to choose one single favorite song because every song is fantastic. This is band to watch in the future cause they will do great things. Buy this CD on June 3. You will not regret it. 9/10. -Chris
1985 - Rufio
I can say this from the start...amazing. Nothing short of my expectations. It feels as if they picked up where they left off from Perhaps, I Suppose. This album, albeit instrumentally outstanding, isn't as complicated as their previous work. Does that mean the songs aren't as catchy and great as their earlier stuff? Not at all. I've listened to it over and I can honestly say there isn't one song on this album that I don't like. My personal favorites have to be Countdown, Science Fiction, We Exist and Follow Me. When Perhaps, I Suppose gained huge followings and fans, I thought that their sophomore release would be a little reflective of that. I was expecting slower, more produced songs with the fancy effects and altered guitars/voices. I think it's anything but that. It sound's just like their previous album. Maybe a bit slower, I'll give that. There are many songs that have that Rufio double time speed to it though. I have yet to put down this CD, and since it's a promo copy that my girlfriend got from her work, I will be buying the actual copy when it does come out. I suggest you all save your money for this one, it will please any Rufio fan and it should be a welcoming collection to any fan of the fast pop punk genre.
BUY IT.

Turn in Your Friends and Neighbors - Living Things
I was very impressed by this band. It was a bummer that was only a 4 song EP. The songs are written about the government(god bless!) are written well. They are very simple but very awesome. They remind me of a 70s punk rock band. I don’t know what else to say but check out the song ‘Bombs Below’ and look out for their debut full length CD on Dreamworks Records. In Response - This Day Forward
I first saw that they were compared to Shai Hulud and was very hesitant since my dislike for Shai Hulud grows every day, but This Day Forward is special. They blend hardcore, emo, and indie rock together to put together one awesome CD. The intensity of singer Mike Shaw’s voice will grab you and sometimes pummel you. “In the past…on the ground” is one of the best “emo-core” songs I’ve heard in awhile. This CD brings you raw emotion and intensity. It is very good. Buy it. 8/10. -Chris
