We (Aaron and Jon-Paul) are Sunset Beach, a rock duo from Tulsa, OK. (smattering of applause)
We’ve tried doing the 3-piece thing, but to no avail. Our last bassist/keyboardist had a nervous breakdown less than a week after his first show with us, and the kid before him fared even worse…..he moved to Portland, Oregon! Still lived there, poor sucker. We haven’t shut any doors as far as new players go, so we don’t know what tomorrow will bring.
Jon-Paul lives in North Tulsa (the ghetto) and I live in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, a couple of hours away. Jon-Paul’s living room doubles as a recording studio and practice space. Were you to go into our respective bedrooms you would find that we both have messy floors, record players and Iron Maiden posters. We are both seldom-shaven slobs with meager cooking skills, amateur tattoos, and a propensity for listening to Hickey too much.
We’ve just finished our 4th tour. Boy, do we love the road. That, and we have unfulfilling underpaying, entry-level jobs (like you, probably!), and social lives Mumia Abu Jamal would scarcely envy. Getting away and being poverty stricken, wannabe rock stars is quite glamorous by comparison!
We started the band in February of ’01, playing most of our shows at El Pistolero (r.i.p.), the local D.I.Y. venue, coincidentally operated by the illustrious Jon-Paul. Aaah….memories.
With a loan we have as of yet not fully repaid, we also started DOY! Records shortly after, as a means of releasing our music until we sign to Epitaph. That last bit was a joke . . . the fact is, we are already signed to Epitaph!
