WCW Relaunch

The following fantasy card was something I had in mind for a little summer project. My plan was to create my own fantasy WCW and do it my way, as a way to increase ratings. Now when I did this, talks of WCW being sold hadn’t begun, let along being bought by WWF. Now this would be the very first show after an official WCW restart, and when I mean restart, I mean restart. You see the storyline I had was that two weeks before this show went on the air, the Nitro was absolutely awful…on purpose. At the end of the show, after Scott Steiner had a Main Event match against Kronic, Scott Steiner walked out of the match, and caused a bunch of people to wonder what is going on. Well Scott walks right into where the “bookers” are, with a bunch of wrestlers behind him, wondering what’s going on. Scott says that he’s tired of the politics, the favoritism, and the general bullshit that’s going on in WCW, and he quits. He throws the World Title into the office and walks out. The “bookers” don’t know what to do, surprised that the camera is there. Then a lot of the other wrestlers do the exact same thing, including all the champions, throwing their titles in the room as well. That Thunder, they showed a best of, and announced that the following week there would be no events. Then on this Nitro (which would have taken place on June 4th), they rebroadcast for the first time under the new WCW.

June 4, 2001 – WCW Nitro

--show opens with scenes of the Nitro where everyone quit.

--the camera goes to ringside where the announce team is Scott Hudson and Mark Madden. They talk about what has happened in the past week. They talk about the frantic negotiations with the wrestlers to convince them not to quit. It was so bad that Ted Turner himself stepped in to talk with the wrestlers, something he has rarely done. Ted Turner made things happen, and many wrestlers agreed to the terms. However, several other superstars did not, and they are still in negotiations. Whether they are in negotiations to get released or to re-sign, nobody knows. They say that everyone is on a true even playing field, and tonight a tournament will begin to crown a brand new WCW World Heavyweight Championship. It will feature sixteen of the top performers, and this tournament is top secret. The superstars don’t know who they are, who they will be facing, or when they will be facing them. There will also be a ten wrestler Battle Royal to crown a brand new TV Champion.

World Title Tournament

Lance Storm vs. The Cat

--Lance Storm and The Cat both come out alone. They both have serious looks on their face. The Cat immediately lays Storm out with several quick kicks, but Storm comes back, and catches one of the kicks, knocking Cat down, and locking on the Canadian Maple Leaf on him. The Cat doesn’t want to submit, but finally has to tap out to the move. Lance Storm moves on in the tournament.

--in the back, Hugh Morrus is with Lash Leroux, Chavo Guerrero, and The Wall. He says that with the creation of the new WCW, they aren’t being forced to work together, but he wants to know if they want to continue working together. Both Lash and Chavo agree, saying they like working with the big guy. The Wall looks unsure, and Hugh asks again, saying it just wouldn’t be the same without him around. The Wall says he’s got his own things to do, but he’ll think about it. The Wall then gets up and leaves.

World Title Tournament

Billy Kidman vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

--Both Kidman and Bam Bam Bigelow come out alone. Kidman immediately starts off showing off his speed and highflying ability. However, Bam Bam catches him in a Cross Body Block, and Power slams him. Bam Bam then shows off his power by throwing Kidman around the ring. Out of nowhere, Kidman nails a hurracarana on Bam Bam, and then climbs to the top to finish Bam Bam off with a Shooting Star Press. Billy Kidman moves on in the tournament.

--Goldberg is shown arriving. Tony Schivony walks over to him with a mic. He asks who he thinks he’ll be facing tonight in the tournament. Goldberg says he doesn’t give a damn, because he’s going to go through anyone and everyone to win this tournament, and he can do it no matter who he goes against.

World Title Tournament

Shane Douglas vs. Mike Awesome

--Once again, they both come out alone. Shane starts out strong, but Awesome comes back. They take it outside the ring, and begin to get hardcore. The ref actually allows it. They use chairs and other hardcore items. Douglas nails his finishing move on Mike Awesome on the outside of the ring, and then tries to pin him. The ref refuses to count it outside the ring. Shane gets Awesome back up and throws him into the ring. Mike is back on his feet, and catches Shane when he gets back into the ring, and delivers an immediate Awesome Bomb. Mike gets the 1, 2, 3, and moves on in the tournament.

--Scott Steiner is shown arriving, and Mean Gene is back to talk with him. Mean Gene asks him about the tournament. Steiner immediately says that he heard what Goldberg said earlier, and he hopes he gets him tonight, so he can shut him up for good.

--the camera goes to the back where it shows Kanyon arriving. The announcers want to know what he is doing here, because as far as they knew, he hadn’t signed the new contract yet.

World Title Tournament

Goldberg vs. Sean Stasiak

--Sean Stasiak comes out first, all cocky, until he sees that Goldberg is his opponent. Goldberg comes out and climbs into the ring. Stasiak is now visibly worried about having to face Goldberg, but as soon as Goldberg climbs into the ring, Stasiak attacks Goldberg, who literally laughs off the attack, and throws Stasiak back into the corner. Goldberg then lays into him with forearms and sends him into the opposite corner. Stasiak stumbles out of the corner and is nailed with the Spear. Goldberg covers. 1…2…3! Goldberg moves on in the tournament.

--Kevin Nash and DDP are show arriving together. Nash jokes around about hoping they didn’t have a match already.

--several wrestlers are waiting in the back to make their entrance for the battle royal. Arn Anderson walks over to Mike Sanders and asks to have a word with him. Arn says that there has been a slight change of plans, and unfortunately Mike’s being taken out of the Battle Royal. Mike is flabbergasted, and wants to know why. Arn says that Kanyon just signed, and they want him in it, so they had to take somebody out. Mike says that’s not fair, and storms off.

TV Title Battle Royal

Kanyon vs. Konnan vs. Meng vs. Elix Skipper vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Johnny the Bull vs. Crowbar vs. Lash Leroux vs. Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Evan Kouragous

--Everyone comes to the ring one by one, and climbs into the ring. Nobody starts until everyone is in the ring and the bell is called. The first one out is Elix Skipper by Lash Leroux. Johnny the Bull is eliminated next, being eliminated by Meng. Rey Mysterio Jr. is eliminated by his tag partner, Konnan. Meng is eliminated by Kanyon. Hacksaw Jim Duggan is eliminated by Evan Kouragous. Evan is eliminated by Crowbar. Konnan is eliminated by Kanyon. Crowbar is eliminated by Lash. It comes down to Kanyon and Lash Leroux. They exchange move after move until Kanyon reverses a Lash move, and throws him over the top rope. Kanyon has become TV Champion, a title that must be defended once a week on television.

--Paula Poudstone finds Kanyon in the back and gets the first interview with him. She asks him  how it feels to be the TV Champion. Kanyon says that it’s a great feeling, and that in the past people have seen him in a lot of different things, but for once, everyone is going to see him as himself.

World Title Tournament

Buff Bagwell vs. Hugh Morrus

--They both come out to the ring alone. Hugh shows off his power in this, and also his agility by getting the upperhand on Buff, but Buff does some pretty underhanded stuff, and gets the upperhand on Hugh. Buff continues to do some underhanded stuff, but the last one backfires, and allows Hugh to nail him with a powerful DDT. Hugh then climbs the ropes and does a picture perfect No Laughing Matter and gets the pinfall on Buff. Hugh moves on in the tournament. Buff is pissed off and begins to viciously attack Hugh. Suddenly, The Wall comes running out, grabbing a chair on the way. Buff immediately leaves the ring and runs away. The Wall helps Hugh up, and then suddenly nails Hugh with the chair that sends Hugh down  hard. The Wall then begins to go ballistic on Hugh with the chair, concentrating on the shoulder. Lash Leroux and Chavo Guerrero run down the ramp quickly, causing the Wall to stop his attack and leave. Lash and Chavo stand over Hugh as paramedics come out. Hugh refuses to get on the stretcher, and holds his arm in pain as Lash and Chavo help him out.

--Jeff Jarrett is shown walking down the hallway. Tony Schiavony asks him what he thinks about the tournament so far. Jeff says he doesn’t have time to talk to him, because he was just told to head to the ring to face some slapnuts in this World Title Tournament. What they should have done was just give him the World Title, and be done with it, because he’s winning this thing anyway.

World Title Tournament

Jeff Jarrett vs. Big Vito

--Jeff Jarrett comes out with his guitar. Then comes Big Vito. Vito is not intimidated by him, and causes Jarrett to back up quickly. Vito doesn’t let him back away too much, and begins to hammer on him with forearms. During this match, Jarrett does some old school heel stuff (eye raking, low blows, using the ropes), but Vito fights back with everything he has. During the match, the ref goes down, and Jarrett immediately grabs his guitar, but before he can use it, Vito snatches it from him and nails him with it. Jarrett goes down. Vito covers, but the ref is down. Vito goes over to check on the ref, and when he turns around, he falls right into the Stroke. Jarrett covers. 1…2…3! Jarrett moves on in the World Title Tournament.

--Mean Gene is in the back with Booker T. Booker T says he doesn’t know who his opponent is, but he’s going to go into the ring and give 110% like he does every time he steps into the ring. If he wins, good, if he loses, he’s not going to sit around and whine, he’s just going to get right back up, and come back next week to wrestle again.

--DDP and Kevin Nash are in their dressing room. They are joking around saying that the show doesn’t have too much longer, and they haven’t had matches yet. Nash says it would suck if they showed up here and they weren’t even in the tournament. Then Arn Anderson walks in and says DDP has a match right now. DDP gets up and leaves. And Nash asks Arn about him, and Arn says he doesn’t know, and walks out, leaving Nash upset, and worried about not being a part of the tournament.

World Title Tournament

DDP vs. Booker T

--DDP comes out first and then Booker T. They both shake hands at the beginning of the match and get right into it. This is a fair match that goes back and forth from the first lock-up. DDP goes for a Diamond Cutter out of nowhere, but Booker T pushes him off toward the turnbuckle. DDP hits the turnbuckles hard, and stumbles out of them. Booker T then comes off with a tremendous ax kick that takes DDP down to the ground and covers. 1…2…3! Booker T moves on in the World Title Tournament.

--Paula Poundstone gives a quick update on Hugh Morrus’s injuries. Hugh appears to have a concussion, although they don’t know how bad, and it appears that he suffered a separated shoulder from The Wall’s attack. He has been taken to the hospital, and they hope to have a better update on him on Thunder.

--Arn Anderson shows up at Kevin Nash’s door, and says he’s up. Nash says it’s about damn time.

World Title Tournament

Scott Steiner vs. Kevin Nash

--Scott Steiner comes out first and then Kevin Nash does. They get right into each other’s faces, and Steiner starts the offensive with several blows to Nash, but Nash fights right back. They begin to trade blows with vicious lefts and rights. Nash gets the upperhand and begins to hammer Steiner. Nash does his classic moves, but then Steiner fights back, taking it to Nash. Steiner nails him with a Steinline and goes for a pin. Nash manages to kick out. Nash fights back and out of nowhere he nails Steiner with a Jackknife Powerbomb. Nash covers Steiner. 1…2…Steiner gets a shoulder up at the last minute, and Nash can’t believe it. Nash pulls Steiner back up and sets him up for another powerbomb, but Steiner fights out of it, and nails him with a huge spinning spinebuster. Steiner covers. 1…2…3! Steiner moves on in the World Title Tournament.

--Scott Hudson and Mark Madden wish everyone a good night, and say that on Thunder, the beginning of the World Tag Team Title Tournament.
