The full rigged ship Egmont, was an exception to most of the vessels sent out by William Gann Co. She was for her size, a fairly speedy ship and on all occasions made good average runs. When the Egmont arrived in Lyttleton in 1856 she brought out approx 118 immigrants, one of them being my great-great-grandfather. He wrote a diary while on board, the original is held at the Christchurch Museum and I am very honoured to have a copy of it.
