Author's Note: Okay the title... didn't really have a good idea for a fitting one. Soooooo I settled. I'll take suggestions. (Too bad the title "Midnight Radio" would have fit soooo nicely... but one should know that it's taken by the lovely Hedwig and the Angry Inch." My dad plans to write a song to this poem and my mom titled it "Fallen." This was written during a lonely summer... waiting to get over someone. Too bad it took another year to find the person that would properly distract me.

Nightly Test Pattern

*

I’m hoping for a distraction
On a cold night like this
Something that’ll keep me warm
And color my cheeks like you did

So I’m searching the skies
Lashes wide and fishing
For the thing that will set me free
From all that you forbid

Anything to fill the time
That gnaws at my stomach
You’ve gone and ruined me
I’m soured to the sweet

There must be something bright
Beneath the shadow you cast
My eyes stumble forward in the dark
Hoping only for retreat

I can’t help but be down
The stars are just dull pinpoints
The moon seems so far away
Caught up in some busy cloud

I lay on my back, open
Broadcasting for signs of life
Radio waves slip from my lips
Over and over your name out loud

Let the wind run all over me
Run its fingers through my hair
Hoping maybe if I let go
It can finally free me from traction

Finger tips seeking breath
I shudder in the dark
I am a fallen star
Wishing for a distraction
