Author's Note: Written on 6/4/04. What a inspirational/sad time the last month of my senior year was! It's about saying goodbye... this poem really fell together perfectly. I had actually forgotten about it until my mom found an illustrated copy made way back when stuck somewhere in my desk. The poem never fails to move me. Seems as if it should be read while listening to "They Can't Take that Away from Me." :P

Ours

It is ours
And ours alone
That which passes between
Harvest and first snow
That we may glean

Golden wheat
The color of the sun
Slips through our fingers
Though they fall away
The feeling still lingers

Drops so bright
Salted by earth and wind
Kisses the soil once more
Leaving us so hungry
And backs sore

But we know
That ours still shines
Though it wanes with the night
Flying through the clouds
Reflecting precious light

Onto us
Illuminating your face
Imprinted with our goodbye
The reapers have come
Quickly as a sigh

Please remember
No matter where you go
You may look upward to see
Me forever smiling
Down onto thee

You and I
Will never lose our hold
For that is how it was meant
No one can ever take
The time that we spent
