VIEWING EXPIERIENCE:     I really wanted to see this movie then I didn’t. It went on like this for several weeks until finally my friend, Becky and I saw it in the theaters. It’s been a few weeks and I still don’t know what to think. Well, my first thought after watching the beginning was, This is a popular teen movie? Not that it’s bad but very unique especially the cinematography. There were a lot of those special tricks like darkening of colors and speeding up only one character’s movements. Usually the most popular teen movies are the ones that are straight forward not a lot to think about. Actually most of the audience in the theater were elderly folk. Moulin Rouge is basically a musical made up of different old pop songs. Not necessarily pop but not theatrical if you know what I mean, like Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend from the classic Marilyn Monroe film Gentleman Prefer Blondes. I didn't like some of the songs so that's why this movie lost a penguin. Some songs were too corny and they overplayed the pop references too much sometimes. The whole setting and costumes were very well done and almost magical. I was worried since I saw the music video for the new version of “Lady Marmalade” by Christina Aguilara and company that there wouldn’t be traditional Can Can outfits but just the 90s’ slutty version, but I was proved wrong to my delight.
STORY SUMMARY:     You know the ending of Moulin Rouge right from the beginning but it was still good, extremely sad but good. There is a deep moral message basically about how important love is and that it isn’t a material thing. Actually one of the old ladies in the theater approached Becky and I at the end of the movie and asked us what we thought of the movie figuring we lost the whole point. Basically she thought that the future generation had lost the whole image of true love (I don’t blame her.) Anyway basically a young writer, Christian (Ewan McGregor) comes to the Bohemian Paris, France at the end of the 19th century to find love. He finds it in the main showgirl at the Moulin Rouge, a burlesque. Satine (Nicole Kidman) the fated “diamond girl” believes in money over love until she lets herself go and falls for Christian. But then comes the chance of true success in a Duke (Richard Ruxburgh) who wants to invest in “Spectacular Spectacular” her new play. Christian is writing “Spectacular Spectacular” which is a shadow of his and Satine’s tragic love story. As he and Satine get more and more involved the harder it is for her to let go of him and pretend to love the Duke. Even though a lot of things are on the line like the Moulin Rouge and Christian’s life it’s self. It’ll make you cry.
BEST QUOTE:     "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return."
CONCLUSION:     See it and be dazzled (or something like that.)
