VIEWING EXPIERIENCE:     I hated this movie… Yet it’s one of my favorites. Does that make sense? Let me explain… Basically I always wanted to see this movie because I heard so much good stuff about it. So finally I downloaded it of the internet and sat down with a bag of pretzels to watch it. All through the movie I was shouting at the computer screen and at the end I was so disturbed I promptly deleted the movie off my computer in a fit of rage. But it has been a night and now that I look over it this movie was great. It was funny, romantic, and yet had a deeper inner message. So though I’m still pissed this movie got my highest rating.
This movie is extremely vulgar. Not only does it have nudity but also it goes into large descriptives of sexual acts. That’s just a warning. It didn’t really bother me much though. Than again I’m used to that kind of movies. I’ve gotten into the habit of looking past the crudeness and into the core of the movie. Sometimes there is substance underneath, sometimes not. This movie definitely had substance. Chasing Amy was written and directed by Kevin Smith. This movie is part of series of movies he did. These movies aren’t that related but they share two common characters, Jay and Silent Bob. Also most of the movies share common actors like, Jason Lee and Ben Affleck. Actually after watching a million movies with Ben Affleck in them I didn’t really appreciate his acting and him as a person. That is until I watched this series of movies. I recommend all those in the series (Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.) The beauty of Kevin Smith’s movies are they are crude and funny, yet they hit another level and mean something more in the end. Or at least in most…
STORY SUMMARY:     Holden (Ben Affleck) and Banky (Jason Lee) are best friends and work together on the comic Chronic and Bluntman. Holden is the sensible one and Banky the sarcastic loud mouth, who has to be right all the time. Then one day Holden meets Alyssa a fellow comic book writer and falls in love. I really don’t want to ruin any of this for you. So just take my word for it and see this movie.
BEST QUOTE:     "If this is just a crush, I don't want to know the real stuff. I don't think I could handle it."
                                "Your mother was a tracer!"
CONCLUSION:     See it only if you're mature and can handle vulgarity. It's R for a reason.
