RATING:     5 penguins out of 5 would enjoy this movie. Penguins can't read so the subtitles are useless. But they think the costumes are purty.

VIEWING EXPIERIENCE:     I picked up Shall We Dance in the foreign section of the local Blockbuster. I had heard good things about it and after viewing it, I totally agree. I love to dance and have always wanted to learn how to ballroom dance. If you like to dance this movie is right up your alley. In case you don’t know this movie is Japanese so apparently it’s subtitled. I don’t have much to say other than it’s really good “feel-good” movie.

STORY SUMMARY:         Something is missing from Sugiyama’s (Koji Yakusho) life. He works hard to support his family and doesn’t go out much. But one day Sugiyama notices a young sad girl peering from a dance studio’s window. And so starts his infatuation with ballroom dance. Every Wednesday he goes to dance classes, first just to get to know his attractive teacher Mai (Tamiyo Kusakari) but then just for the love of dance. Dance especially for men isn’t accepted in Japan (or so the movie states), so he hides this from his family. But when Sugiyama starts acting strange around his wife, she fears an affair. Turmoil over the heart and dance floor is played out in this delightful movie. *gag* I sound corny. I’ve written five reviews in the last hour, I better take a break before I start giving thumbs up. Gosh, I even used the descriptive “feel-good”. *shudders*

BEST QUOTE:     "Shall We dance?" (Eep! That's the only one I could remember sadly...)

CONCLUSION:     See it.
