Painteds are probobly the most common turtle in New Jersey. They can be seen on nearly any piece of floating driftwood, rock, stump, or even shallow bank in the local lakes during summertime. They are relatively small, with most adults topping out at around six inches or below, but some larger females can be as much as 10 inches or occasionally more. As adults they are primarily vegetarian, but no turtle passes up a worm when it finds one.
