Doing Fine

I called this chick a name. Well, I told her to move her fat ass out of my face. I never should have; not only did she fire her stupid firecrackers at me. (I have a burn on my arm now!); Storm and Xavier are making me write a letter to say I'm sorry. Plus, I have to talk with Xavier, EVERY afternoon. It blows big time. Here's a rundown of our 1st talk.

I walked into his office, half an hour late. He didn't seem to care. I sat across from him and put my feet on his coffee table.

"Hello, Max. How are you?" He sounded clam.

I didn't want him to think for one damn second that I cared what was going on. "Hey. How are you?" I asked him.

Xavier nodded slowly. "I'm fine, thank you. Now, I heard that you called, Jubilee, fat. You know the rules, you aren't allowed to call other students names. Why did you do it?"

I shrugged. "Her fat ass was in my face."

He seemed to want to laugh. Now, this shocked the hell out of me. I started to feel funny; he was reading my mind.

"You think I should use my powers for your X-Men." I stated.

Xavier looked into my eyes thoughtfully. It seemed like hours before he spoke again. "Yes. You've been here four months, I know you've made a few friends, but you seem to distance yourself from my X-Men."

I shrugged again. "So? Sunglass boy and all American girl aren't my type. Strom's okay and so is Logan. But, I'm not getting buddy buddy with them."

Xavier nodded. Man, he was giving me a major case of wiggins. "I see." That's it! That's all Mr. Mindreader said! The asshole.

"Can I ask ya a question?" I asked him. He nodded. "How come I gotta talk with you and Ms. Firecracker doesn't?"

He seemed to think about it a minute. "She got angry, she even tried to hit you, but she stopped herself. However, she will be punished for using her power on you. You however would have hit her right back. You would have hurt her. I cannot allow that. Understand?"

I shrugged. "No more then I usually understand you."

This time he laughed loudly. "You are something else, Max."

I made a face. "Was that a come-on?"

Xavier shook his head with a small laugh. "Of course not. You're just something else. I believe that you act bitter, so no one will see how very sweet you really can be."

I took my feet off the table. "Yeah, right. Look at the time. The new guy, Remy, he's teaching the kids how to play cards. I can't miss this for the world. A chance to laugh my ass off at those guys." I stood, went to the door and opened it. I was about to leave, when Xavier called after me.

"Max, how are you really doing?"

I whirled around to face him. "Me? I'm doing fine." With that I turned and walked out.
