CLAMP gets all the credit in that department. This is just a little poem inspired by the 1st chapter in the 5th Cardcaptor Sakura manga volume. It was originally written for my English class. Story altered slightly for rhyme and reality's sake. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ On a clear and crystal day, When all the birds do sing, A young girl wanders through the woods, Simply just wondering. She comes across a mansion With ivy-laden walls, And through the lavish garden’s door, A gentleman, who calls, “My child, come and sit with me, And tarry for a while. It is not often I have guests,” said with a hopeful smile. The maiden gratefully accepts, Though she has to question; Just what it was she did for him To deserve such affection. “You look just like my granddaughter,” He answers with a sigh, “Though she joined the sainted angels So many years passed by.” She offers her apologies For bringing up the past, And remembers that her mother Too, sadly did not last. He smiles sadly, shakes his head, And tells her not to fret. His granddaughter has left a gift, And it may cheer her yet. He draws out a dress of purest silk, Bedecked with lace so fine, And ribbons and a cameo Complete the sweet design. “It’s too grand!” the girl protests, “How can you give it up?” But the old man was persistent, And she found soon enough. As they walk throughout the halls, For it is time to go, They pause before a large painting Portraying a rainbow. “My granddaughter painted that,” The old man says with pride, And the young girl devised a plan While standing by his side. “I must leave, but please wait here- Watch from the balcony,” ‘I hope this works,’ the maiden thinks, ‘He’s done so much for me.’ She races to the garden, Searches quickly for a hose, Then points it up into the air, And then the water rose. The sun glistens in the sky And sparkles on the drops, Creating a huge bridge of colors That blend just at the tops. “So this was her grand surprise,” The old man says with glee. “My great-granddaughter will never know Just what she means to me.”
