Diseases in Rats

Rats usually live 2.5 to 4 years max. They do have so things they get I will explain a couple below.


Mycoplasma--> The number 1 killer in rats. Most rats carry this. Do Not Breed Your Rat if it has it. Sneezing is and early symptom while more advanced symptoms include wheezing, laboured breathing, lethargy, and a hunched posture.
Most rats need antibiotic treatments for the above, so it can be kept under control.

Tumors--> Female rats get mammary tumors. These tumors are usually benign and can be removed surgically.
Polyplax spinula--> a type of louse that may infest rats and cause hairloss and intense itching.
