This section of the site has been set up to allow us to have a central coordination of all the various RE development topics that we currently have underway and to ensure that group members can contribute effectively to the areas of development that they have an interest in.
Here's some basic guidelines on contributing for the benefit of everyone involved:
First of all, if you don't see a topic you want to work on and you want a new topic added to the list, contact Dela at dela@dela100.freeserve.co.uk to get it added!
Next, to ensure that there is consistancy and useable output for each discussion topic will need to have the following included in their Special Interest Discussion Groups (SIDG) in order for the topic to be really kicked off the ground:
- A Moderator,
- A Scribe
- ....and of course Contributers!
The Moderator will provide help and guidance to the SIDG and we have Dela, Tiff & Debbie currently available to act in these roles. The Guide will also provide you with information on work that has previously been done on your topic area from the archives. It will be the Moderator's role to ensure that development groups move forward in an integrated way and that the output is consistant with Amber's RE vision.
The Scribe's job will be to re-group the discussion periodically and to be responsible for documenting the conclusions that the group come up with in the form of proposals for the rest of the group to consider. The Scribe needs to keep track of everything that is concluded and, if they are having any problems should talk to the Guide for the group.
Contributers are all the other members of the group who want to have input into the topic area.
When you've decided who from your group is going to be Scribe, please contact Dela so we can update the site with the info:-).
Some other things to remember:
~All contributions are voluntary. It isn't compulsory to take part in the development aspects of RE as well as the normal threads. Only join in if you want to:-).
~Remember that there are two main purposes to this development work - to take part in the development and ideas sessions AND to make sure that something constructive and usable by the rest of the group comes out of that brainstorming.
~Please try to ensure that your contributions are constructive and help your Scribe as much as you can with summaries of your points as you go along. This way we can collect the points raised and make sure they are used effectively.
~Don't take it personally if your ideas aren't used - it won't always be possible to use everyone's ideas and the results of each SIDG will be a team effort.
~Don't make personal attacks or flame the discussions (I'm sure we don't need to say this one really!).
~Don't apologise for long posts - we want to hear your ideas! But if you do post a long post, please provide a summary of the post at the end so that the key points are clearly felt and any surfaced questions are apparent.
~Feel free to examine all ideas - even ones you think are 'silly' might lead to some interesting group discussion or revelations! Don't forget that this is brainstorming and that means letting your imagination and ideas run wild! Examining the ideas and seeing which ones are usable comes later:-)
~And overriding it ALL - please try to keep the 'Vision' of RE in mind at all times. Sometimes even a great idea just won't fit into the RE scenario. We are not a D&D game - we are an interactive writing group. The world of RE is low magic and character driven. The plotlines and ethos has always been to promote a realm where only through team effort will the Uen Roug defend against the Dark Agents and their Demon Queen. A lot of the historical guidelines have already been determined on and any of our development work will need to fit in around these as much as possible. Make sure you have understood the implications of the events and guidelines that have gone before on your topic area before you start developing into new areas of that topic. Ask your Guide to give you as much information as there currently is on your topic as your starting point.
~Again, the ideas you come up with will be disseminated to the entire group and may get shot down - *don't take it personally* if that happens and don't let it stop you from keeping at it!;-)
~Also, please be patient about the pace the development topic can go in. The moderators will have lots to do and won't always be able to give fast responses. Amber will also need to give her authorization on the more critical world changing ideas and this may take time to get through. This is a massive project we are undertaking and RE wasn't built in a day. ;)
So - go to it! And have fun developing!!:-)
