Jerlain Wainwright
Family Background
Jerlain's folks are your average, decent, Uenese family unit. Close without being claustrophobic and supporting without *too* much pushing in directions they think are best for you. They are the sort of family who can make others welcome. If Jerlain ever brought friends from the Academy back home, they'd soon feel right at home and take away a good memory of home comforts and good company when they left.
Her simple tastes in life obviously stem from her background. She's never known what it is to be wealthy but then again, she's never known what it means to go hungry either. From Jerlain's ease of fitting in with Academy society and work ethic, it's clear that she was raised to be an active part of a community.
---------
Appearance
Of average height and with the easy energy of one who has been in training for the last five years of her life, Jerlain is an obvious 'active type'. While she'll never be a 'Maria Maradoc', the older girl has been one of her role-models and she's watched her at work and tried to pick up some of her style.
Hazel eyed and tawny haired, she's the type who will always look best in the earthy, fall shades of tan, green, beige and browns and those are the schemes she picks out when selecting her Academy training garb. She's one of those students who is glad to claim the standard garb, and for two reasons; One is that she'd think it a waste of chips to get something more individual when this hand-out serves its purpose, and two, she's glad to wear the garb as a mark of who she is. It keeps things simple.
Physique-wise, she is narrow hipped but with unexpected strength in her upper arms and shoulders. This made for some great wrestling matches with her brother, who, when she left, she could pretty fairly match. She's also built for running and shows some good endurance abilities.
-----------
Personality
Reared closely and, perhaps somewhat competitively at times, with only one similar aged brother, Jerlain's personality as a youngster might occasionally have been termed rambunctious. Certainly the two wrestled and fought and played tricks on one another as often as they got into joint mischief in thier growing up years. The trouble they got in was never more serious than displays of high spirits and the respect they both had for thier father meant that when he pointed out to them any approaching lines, that they heeded him well and learned some self-discipline from it.
She's been called boyish at times by some, but
they'd be mistaken in that. She's quite at home with her femininity
- she just maybe has a different opinion of what being female means than
some. For her, it means being comfortable with your own body, working
within it's limits and glorying in its strengths. She doesn't think
she owes anyone an excuse for being smaller or less strong than a man and
nor does she see any need to prove herself as being 'equal' to a man.
She doesn't see any reason to think she *isn't* equal.
Having been reared so closely alongside her brother
and sharing the family work between them has meant that she never learned
to think otherwise than that a unit is made up of many, and with varying
skills and abilities. That the result is what the team produces,
not the individual. In that she fits well with the ethos of the Academy.
Her pleasures are for the simple things in life. She's so in tune with her own body that such small comforts as a good meal, a bath when aching from a long work out, sleep at the end of the day make up the individual parts of a life that satisfies her. She works with a good will and any duty she's had to perform to date hasn't felt like any real hardship to her.
Easy going and good natured, she has a good circle
of friends and fits in well enough with plenty of the more outgoing Academy
groupings. As far as boys are concerned, she's had two relationships
so far. The first led from a friendship with a young trader's lad
in Pallahade who she met when she started to explore the city after becoming
a student at the Academy. The simple exploration of their juvenille
feelings and changing bodies didn't lead to discomfort when the gap between
them started to widen as she grew more settled in the Academy world.
They remain friends and Darragh is a useful contact for her in the locality.
Her second relationship is a relatively new one and, now in her 18th year,
she is exploring a more mature interaction. The young man concerned,
Errol, works in a civil capacity at the Csar's palace. They
met when he was conducting some research at the Academy archives.
The relationship isn't serious yet but she enjoys his company and sees
him on occasion on her free days. She has no interest in settling
herself just yet
but nor too does she see any harm in exploring
what the world has to offer her.
At the Academy she does well in all things athletic and combat related. She isn't particularly creative or artistic but she didn't do too badly in the armory and in woodworking. In her academic classes she's almost always one of those who gets middling marks - she's pretty pleased when she gets a C.
Jerlain's main problems are likely to come from the fact that, well frankly, that she's had it pretty easy in life so far. She's never suffered or known injustice, never come face to face with true hardship or loss. Even her youthful ambition of studying at the Academy came to her without real exertion on her side or battle to make it possible. She simply responded to a recruitment call and had her family's full backing in the change of lifestyle.
Her rather narrow, naive and perhaps unrealistically
optimistic outlook on life is probably likely to produce some interesting
effects when she explores a wider world in her work as a Roug and finds
out that not everyone has had the benefit of her lucky start in life.
Never having known what any other life is like, she makes judgements at
times on what other people should be capable of. If she finds something
easy or just the result of a little effort, then why can't everyone?
She doesn't mean it harshly, but her thoughtlessness with regard to insecurities
and damage within other people, has the potential to hurt. Some field
experience will test her true potential.

Stormcloud
Stormcloud is a handsome stallion, so named for his unique coat pattern the color of angry clouds. Known for his stubborn nature and hard headedness, any Academy student could tell you that once he's made up his mind, you can beat on his chest, set his hooves on fire, and shout until you're hoarse, but he still won't budge an inch. Once he pins back those ears, nothing will change his mind, and 'Cloud likes to be *right* even if he suspects he's wrong. Still, usually he is a laid-back, easygoing stallion...even unusually so for one so young. While definitely no Radiance or Lure when it comes to socializing, Stormcloud and his close-knit group of friends certainly know how to have fun. Stormcloud's easy manner and subtle jokes, however, are counterbalanced by a hot temper. He rarely loses his it, but when he does, it's nothing short of blind fury.
His talent is that of charging objects with his own emotions. That is, a temper tantrum could ignite a nearby stick or electrically charge a stone; sadness or sorrow could cause the color to drain from his surroundings or cause objects to liquefy; happiness could initiate levitation. He has no control over the effects and the emotion must be genuine, but his talent is very broad in scope and therefore quite powerful. A solid and skilled fighter.
