Rhia

In appearance Rhia is around 5'7" - 5'8" in height, slender and long limbed. She has blue eyes and her hair is fair and caught by the sun, falling in loose waves past her shoulders. It is seldom worn loose however since she finds that impractical. Her family were once fairly poor but due to an inheritance and a lucky business venture, her father gained enough money to move them up into more well-to-do circles. Uncomfortable with their more humble beginnings, Rhia's father and mother did everything they could to become acceptable to the higher society they now moved in.

Rhia went along with this fairly tolerantly, until it became apparent that her parents expected her likewise to conform. Since she was happy enough with the way she was, either rich or poor, Rhia didn't see the need for any of these adjustments just to impress a lot of people she had no interest in. After a period of time, this difference of opinion led Rhia to decide that perhaps her future lay elsewhere than with her family and she left her home to make her own way in the world.

Marriage and children were never really something that Rhia had considered, yet there was something inside her that felt a strange need for something else to make her life complete. This unsettling yearning kept her moving from town to town until she finally found herself at the Academy. It was then that she first saw the unicorns and knew at last what her longing was. Being of a single-minded nature, she fixed on this as the life she wanted and her dedication to that end won her a place at the Academy - despite being older than many of the other new students. She settled down to the new routine, applied herself seriously to her
studies and determined that she would prove herself worthy of a Bondmate. Not being particularly gifted in any way, any achievement she gained was through stubborn, hard work and an unwavering pursuit of her goal.

One of Rhia's weak points is her lack of imagination. That coupled with a blunt and straightforward nature means she is not apt to be sensitive enough to understand other people's feelings with any great clarity. Though she would never mean it intentionally, her lack of sensitivity can sometimes give offence. While friendly enough, she is seldom drawn to anyone else's company, as much as she is drawn to her work or her studies. She tends to see others as working companions. She doesn't realise it but she misses out on the benefits that real friendship can give. Her lack of imagination has its good points however - she faces danger pragmatically and keeps her head come what may. Her solid and down-to-earth values mean that she is dependable and very loyal to her companions - four-legged and two-legged. Though she is somewhat lacking in communication skills at times with her fellow humans, she is very comfortable around the unicorns and with animals in general. She has also spent some time studying with the healers at the Academy and has shown some practical skill in the mechanics of the healing arts.
