Tanami is of average height, slim and moves with constant energy. Her coppery brown hair is tightly plaited back in one long braid down her back below her waist. You would think this would keep her hair under control but rogue strands whisp out all down the plait as if controlled by static. She is not what you would call a beauty and has a set to the chin that belies her strong will. Tanami’s eyes are a plain hazel green but when it is dark and they catch the light glow emerald like a cat's. A family trait that links back to when her ancestors roamed not only Uen but Zadiago as well, sometimes camping in areas of high magic flux with their Arquibas companions. Little about her has changed despite the five years she has spent at the academy. The only real difference about her is the length of her hair which has grown another foot to swing down mid thigh. She still wears worn leather riding breeches and a faded green silk shirt though it now has a white badge on the shoulder.

Tanami is a happy soul and rarely gets distressed by anything though she tends to shy away from violence and hatred sensing the tension and either slipping away or else retreating into her own mind to avoid it if she cannot help solve it. Not blessed with the best people skills Tanami, upon entering a building containing animals, will most likely greet the dog/cat/iguana/whatever before the host and spend much of the evening patting the creature while only listening to the host and other humans conversation with one ear. She seems to attract animals and when wandering around in or near cities usually has an alley cat or a sooty sparrow following her (though it's more likely she'll be carrying it and feeding it part of her lunch). Her affinity and love for animals has gotten her into trouble a few times because she cannot stand to see animals mistreated (hunting for food is one thing but for sport is a ‘cruel, wasteful idea’). And has often come back to the academy with a orphaned deer, a injured hawk or a starving alley cat to tend then release. Because of her nature Tanami tends to find it easier to talk to the unicorns than her fellow class mates, probably because she has always talked to animals <though unlike the unicorns most don’t reply>. Like many of the nomadic Tanami is very independent, used to roaming away from her own clan to explore and roam alone with her own thoughts. Most of her life has been spent out in the open and she tends to feel uncomfortable and a little claustrophobic in cities and large towns. She also tends to be uncomfortable in large crowds. Though she has grown a little more used to being around lots of people she still prefers her own company but can easily enjoy herself in a group if she's kept distracted enough not to think about how many people there are around her.

Tanami has spent most of her life with her family, a nomadic tribe known as the Nianth'zlai, famed horse breeders and tamers, who roam Uen country and beyond. When she turned sixteen she set out on her own with V’nai, a vicious but loyal horse, making her own travels across the country meeting her family occasionally at fairs and markets. Shortly before she turned seventeen she made a foray into Sieta to get supplies that she could not make herself Tanami found out about the Uen Roug Academy and decided to join. Five years of knowledge gained and friendships have made her feel a part of the great Roug family but even so her Nianth'zlai blood grows restless for the road and even though V’nai long since returned to the Nianth’zlai tribe Tanami longs to be out wandering again.
