Cherrells, farm birds

Cherrell are small birds which can be found on just about every farm in Pallahade's kingdom. reaching 2ft in height, they are flightless and there are no Cherrell found in the wilds. The birds have a wing span of only three ft.

A bit plan looking, Cherrells are mostly an orange brown in colour. Though they do have long green feathers mixed in with their tail feathers. Both the male and females have blue patches surrounding their eyes, and the male has a crown of 7 feathers on top of his head.

Not overly bright creatures, they are easy to manage and care for however. Females are in season through out spring right through fall. They lay one to three eggs a day. Most of these eggs are gathered by the farmers and sold at market. Female Cherrell mate with whatever male cherrell is in their pen with them. As there is usually only one male there. The egss are mottled purple in colour and chicks are a downy yellow when they hatch.

Chicks that are allowed to hatch begin growing their feathers in a month after they hatch. And by the time they are three months old, their feathers are fully grown in although it will be another two weeks before they reach full growth and sexual maturity. Many chicks don't make it to full growth as young Cherrell are often killed for their more tender meat.

Although farmers always make sure that they have enough chicks and hens to ensure the farm's quota of eggs and meat can continue to be met.
