Violet Specks
Violet Specks are brilliantly marked butterflies found thorough out Uen. Living everywhere that flowers can be found. They live moving from flower to flower. Spending nights attached to trees or buildings. These butterflies wander over great distances during the summer months.
Bright violet, they have black markings decorating their wings. And one part of the tips, blue and red markings also.
Beautifully marked, the male's coloring is brighter than that found on the females. Beyond that, there is no other way to tell the males and females apart on sight. They weigh about 0.4 grams each. Male and female butterflies live on liquids. Sipping on flower nectar, tree sap, and rotten fruits. Caterpillars however also eat leaves, getting their liquids from dewdrops.
Living for only a period of two weeks as an adult, the Specks emerge from their cocoons ready to mate. Males spend their time searching for females to mate with. The females look for suitable plants to lay their eggs. When they come across each other, males use a special scent to attract the female to him. Then after mating, the female lays her eggs on different plants.
Once the eggs hatch, the caterpillars emerge and begin eating. There
is no set length of time for them to remain in this stage but eventually,
they find a small twig on which to build their cocoon. After about 10 to
14 days, the caterpillar emerges a butterfly. Unless winter has descended
on the land. The caterpillars and butterflies cannot survive the cold of
winter. So caterpillars still in the cocoon remain in their cocoons tell
Spring. Where on the cycle continues.
