Just In Case

Just in case I can see your lips
from where I'm sitting --
not just your lips,
but also your hands
as they clutch one another.

One time I saw your eyes searching
for something on my face,
But I moved away
So you wouldn't
find it.

Some days when we were together
I'd wish you would grab my hair,
turn my face to meet yours
and tell me that you want to melt
into a puddle of bright colors
with me.

But you never did, maybe
because I never sat close enough to you.
Where I sat you could never
touch me and even if your hand
did reach out for mine
I'd probably have slapped it away,
Just in case I didn't like
the feel of your skin against mine

But I never didn’t like it......
