It's a sunny bright morning in New York as we pan over the city skyline to see the statue of liberty in the distance. Cut the center as we pan over top and down in front of the door.

Cut to inside the centre which is packed. Alex is over by the counter helping James with the drinks. We pan over to Eve on the main level. She is with a group of kids ranging from the ages of five to ten. She is laughing with them and playing with them. She even picks up a little brown haired girl and swings her around and dances. The little girl giggles.

Eve looks over to Alex who smiles back at her. However, her eyes still show a sadness. Eve looks over to James. Her smile falters when James looks up at her. She smiles but he doesn't smile back.

Eve - (voice over commentary) Destiny comes to pass in strange ways. As does life. An man with a deep seeded hatred of me has control of the body of a man who showed me compassion and gave me strength. Craig told me that I can follow my path and the practices of Eli if I could learn to modify them to suit the 21'st century. Now Thuvan is using Craig to make me doubt everything. But it only made me realize how much harder I have to fight. And yet doing just that me realize I was going about staying on the right path in the wrong way . . .

A WEEK AGO

Cut to the centre. The mood is somber as Jeff, James Alex and Eve. Something sparks in Eve's eyes. She begins to breathe heavily. Everyone becomes concerned at this change

Alex - Eve, don't do this to yourself! This isn't your fault

Eve slams her hand down on the counter putting a hole in it. She startles Alex, Jeff and James.

Eve - IT'S NOT MY FAULT!! Thuvan chose this hell, this damnation! But I will not let Craig be dragged down with him. I know what I have to do.

James - Eve ,what are you talking about?

Alex - Eve, if you're talking about vengeance . . .

Eve - THIS IS NOT VENGEANCE!! I am the Messenger of Eli and I am going to do what I was brought here to do and I am going to work harder at it. Love will save this world and I will make sure that we will save Craig!

Alex - Great! And we are all with you on this!

Eve - But I need to be stronger. If I'm going to save Craig, the way I was meant to, a change is in order.

Cut to the next day. Early morning. Eve is in her apartment in her kitchen throwing junk food in the trash. There is a knock at the door.

Eve - Come in

Alex walks in and swings the door a bit and looks at the hinges. She nods in approval. She closes the door behind her and walks over to Eve who is looking through her cupboards.

Alex - You fixed the door!

Eve - I did it last night.

Alex - You know how to use a screw driver?

Eve stops what she's doing and sends a small glare toward Alex. Alex puts her hands up defensively

Alex - Hey! It's a joke. I do that.

Eve goes back to what she is doing. She closes the doors of the cupboard and ties a knot in the trash bag

Alex - What are you doing?

Eve - Getting back on my path.

Alex - I'm sorry but didn't we do this bit last year? Didn't we talk about how you were going to strive for more balance between your path and a 21st century lifestyle

Eve - Craig and I were working on that but ever since he died . . .or we thought he died . . . .

Alex - Craig is dead. I don't know who Thuvan is.

Eve - (sighs) I've lost focus. I've been neglecting that which could give me the most strength. Look at my apartment Alex, it's filled with junk food and material things. Everything in here is Excess Excess Excess! You said yourself how material I've become. I wanted you to buy a car!

Alex - You have to walk five blocks to the college everyday. Who wouldn't want a car?

Eve - I've quit college. That takes up way too much of my time, time I could be using to help others.

Alex - All because you didn't want to walk?

Eve - Stop kidding around Alex. I'm serious.

Alex - You think I like having my best friend . . .someone I love . . . possessed by some psycho who has it in for you? I feel like my head is going to explode. I'm trying to deal too, but I'm not going Ghandi!

Eve - I don't know what that means. But to get back on my path and regain focus on this mission I've got to get back to basics. That means living on only what I need.

Alex - (jokingly) Can I have your shoes then?

Eve walks in the her bedroom and comes out a minute later holding a box of shoes and shoves them to Alex

Eve- Here!

Alex - Whoa!

Eve - You can take the television and computer if you want.

Alex - Don't you think you're overdoing it a little. Eve, you are living in the 21st century in New York. You need some of these things to function.

Eve - (softens her look) When I was in Chin I learned how desire can only lead to suffering. Wealth and possession cannot not fill the emptiness within our soul.

Alex - Hey, I kick demon butt on a regular basis. I deserve a little wealth and possession.

Eve - (sighs a little and smiles) It's your path, your decision

Eve leaves Alex to go downstairs and Alex is processing what she just said

Alex - Hey! Are you leaning a guilt trip on me? (drops the box and follows Eve out)

Cut to downstairs in the centre

Eve walks up to James who has just walked

Eve - Ah, just the man I wanted to see

James - (smiles) Nice to be wanted

Eve - (Smiles back and holds up the cell phone) I wanted to give this back to you

James - (frowns) Why? It was a gift. You need these kinds of things Eve.

Eve - (sighs) That's just it. I don't

James sees Alex enter from the back room

James - (to Alex) Do you know what this is about?

Eve - I've decided to more strictly follow the ways of Eli. It will help me refocus and save people the way I was meant to. Then I can save Craig.

Alex - It's not a crime to have things. I hardly think having them will distract us from what's important here and I object to you thinking it will distract me from Craig!

Eve - It's not you Alex. It's me. Desire can lead to suffering and suffering can lead to hate and hate can open ways for Lucifer to bring hell to earth. I'm not saying that everyone should follow what I do down to the exact letter. But if I want to stop Lucifer and save Craig with love through the path of Eli, I cannot be a hypocrite in my own practices.

Alex - I think you're burning some bridges and I'm pretty sure Eli would agree with me

Eve just sighs and leaves the cell phone on the counter and goes through to the backroom and up to her apartment. James follows her

Cut to Eve's apartment. Eve walks in and grabs the trash. She turns around and sees James standing in the doorway

James - We need to talk (closes the door behind him. He looks back at the door noticing it's fixed) You fixed the door?

Eve - Surprise Surprise! (puts down the trash) What's on your mind?

James - Us. Things aren't working out. With everything that has happened . . . (struggling for the right words) You know I want to help you and I will however I can but you're dealing with a lot. I don't think we can have a relationship right now.

Eve - (takes a deep breath and nods)You're right. We need to take a break. Thank you for understanding

Eve walks over picks up her trash and walks out. James stands there dumbfounded at her calmness

Cut to downstairs in the centre. Eve has already gone to take out the trash and James comes out from the backroom over to Alex by the bar.

James - Alex, can I have the day off?

Alex - Yeah sure. Sunday's are usually slow anyway. Can I ask why?

James - (gives a sour look) Ask Eve.

Eve comes back in and James gives her a glare as he walks out

Alex - What's going on?

Eve - We agreed to put our relationship on hold (Alex's looks at her confused)He suggested it. I agreed. I don't know why he's taking it so hard

Alex - Maybe because you're acting so casual about it.

Eve - I'm not being casual I'm being calm and refocusing. I thought James understood that and that's why we're taking a break.

Alex -Do you think you're being punished for not following your path the way you did in Ancient Greece? Is that why you're doing this?

Eve - (whips back around) I have failed in my mission! The night we buried Craig, Eli came to me and told me I must be strong. But I am so lost without Craig to guide me. I have to turn back to Eli. If I'm strong in my path it will help me find the strength and guidance I need to save Craig! Why won't you understand!

Fade to late at night. Eve's apartment. Eve walks in the door after a long night of patrolling and is rotating her shoulder. She throws her chakram down and takes off her jacket moaning. She is about to go into her room when she hears a sound from downstairs.

Cut to downstairs in the centre. It's dark and we see Eve's outline come out of the backroom. She hits the lights. We find a teenage boy taking money out of the register.

Eve - Hey!

The boy startled bolts for the door. Eve jumps up and flips over him to blocks him from the door. He bumps in to her and falls to the floor. He looks up at her scared

Boy - Don't hurt me!

COMMERCIAL

Eve - What?

Boy - I swear I didn't mean to! Please don't hurt me

Eve - (picks the boy up by the collar of the ground) Who are you and how did you get in here?

Boy - Look, I'll give back the money okay. We can forget it ever happened

Eve sighs and holds out her hand. The boy quickly takes the money out of his pockets and puts it in Eve's hand. He gets ready to walk by her but she steps in front

Eve - I'm calling the police

Boy - Aw come on! I gave back the money!

Eve - Tell me your name and how you got in here and I'll consider letting you go

Boy - (sighs) Shane. My name's Shane and I . . . broke open the door with a crow bar.

Eve - Alex is going to have a fit!

Shane - I'm sorry I didn't mean it!

Eve - (looks at the boy curiously) Because you gave back the money I won't call the police but I'm going to call your parents.

Shane - Like they'd care

Eve - What do you mean?

Shane - Nothing. Can I go?

Eve - (raises and eyebrow) Do you have anywhere to go?

Shane looks down to the ground trying to avoid the question

Eve - Yeah. That's what I thought

Shane - (bitterly)Yeah well my mom's boyfriend doesn't like me very much

Eve - Do you want to come out with me?

Shane looks at Eve weird

Eve - I'm not trying to pick you up I just thought you might like something to eat

Eve walks over to the cash register and begins to put the money back in

Shane - Why are you being so nice to me? I just tried to rob you!

Eve - I believe you are sorry for trying to steal the money and I also believe you didn't really want to. The question is, why did you try to?

Shane - You think food is going to make me tell you?

Eve just shrugs her shoulders

Shane - Well, you're right

Cut to a small diner in New York. Shane is there in a booth scarfing down food. Eve sits across from him just sipping some water.

Eve - Hungry huh?

Shane - (nods) Why aren't you eating anything? You on a diet or something?

Eve - No, I just don't eat food like that.

Shane - Are you like a Buddhist?

Eve - Not really. I follow another path. The path of Eli.

Shane - What?

Eve - Don't they teach that sort of thing in school?

Shane - I don't go to school

Eve - (sighs) So you got kicked out of your home and you've dropped out of school. Now you're living on the streets?

Shane - I have a place with some people but it's kind of rough you know. We're not exactly old enough to get jobs and things are tight. I didn't want to steal the money but I had to!

Eve - I understand you're in need but you didn't have to steal. You know there are shelters for . . .

Shane - No! You don't understand at all! I shouldn't even be talking to you right now. My friends are going to freak when they find out I've come back with no money (gets up to leave)

Eve - Wait! I can help

Shane - Why do you even care?

Eve - Do I need a reason? Come back to the centre with me. We can work something out

Shane is hesitant

Eve - (sighs) Shane I know you don't feel like you have any power here but you do

Shane - You don't get it do you? I have no choice

Eve - There may not be a lot of options but there is choice. You can go back to people who will hurt you or you can come with me and I can help you.

Shane - Nice words, I've heard them before and I've been screwed over

Eve - I can't make you do anything but you do have a choice and you are the only one who can make it. That's the one true power you do have.

Eve puts some money on the table for the food and grabs her coat to leave. Shane gets up as well.

Shane - Hey, wait up!

Cut to light steaming through Eve's apartment window. It's the next day. Pan over to Eve. She is sitting at a table with her head resting in her arms. She is sleeping on top of books at papers. She wakes up suddenly and looks around. She realizes it's morning. She gets up and stretches and sees Shane sleeping on her couch. She walks over to him and smiles as she drapes a blanket over him. She then hears a slam from downstairs

Eve - (remembering the door) Oh no!

Cut to downstairs in the centre. Alex is going through the money counting it in a rush

Alex -It's all there! Thank god it's all there!!

Eve runs out of the backroom

Alex - Eve! What the hell happened to the door!!!

Eve - Calm down, I can explain.

Jeff walks in

Jeff - Yeah, it definitely looks like a break in. Was any money taken?

Alex - No, thankfully

Jeff - Well you better check your inventory just to make sure. Eve, how could you not notice something like that? Who ever broke in must have made some sound?

Eve - It's like this . . .

Shane comes out of the backroom

Shane - Eve! Thanks for letting me crash here. The . . .

Jeff - Shane!?

Shane looks to Jeff with shock then to Eve

Shane - You said you weren't going to call the cops! I trusted you!!

Eve - Shane, wait!

Shane - (to Jeff) You're going to have to catch me

Shane runs around Eve and pushes past Jeff with violent force as he exits out the door

Eve - Oh great! Thanks a lot Jeff. I was just starting to get through to him

Jeff - Eve, that kid is a criminal!

Alex - Well, at least we know who broke in

Eve - He didn't take anything. And he's not a criminal!

Jeff - Oh yeah! Well over ten counts of underage drinking, six counts of theft and three counts of breaking and entering says otherwise. He's part of a gang Eve.

Eve - What?

Jeff - Yeah, I've dealt with him before.

Eve - I can help him. Someone has to! He's has no one

Jeff - You can't help him Eve. He's beyond that

Eve - (her look hardens) You know if everyone in the world had your attitude hope would not even exist. I might still be Livia if everyone had your attitude. Now you're going to help me find Shane so I can help him change his life.

Jeff who backs up a little scared looks at Eve then looks to Alex from some backup

Alex - I wouldn't argue with her if I were you.

Cut to the Police station. Eve is sitting in front of Jeff's desk. Jeff comes walks over and sits down on the other side of the desk and drops a big file on the desk

Jeff - I hope you appreciate the fact I'm breaking about a dozen rules for you.

Eve - I'd be breaking about a dozen of my own rules if I didn't help him

Jeff - (sighs) Right. Well let's see what we have here. (opens the file) Shane Harrison. Oh yeah. I've arrested him after he broke into a convenience store and stole the money and then arrested him a second time after doing the same thing. We have to let him go after spending a few months in Juvie because he's not eighteen yet. As a minor he's protected.

Eve - I'm not saying it's right but he steals so he and his friends can eat.

Jeff - Eve, I really hate to break this sweet little view you have of him but he doesn't steal so he and his "friends" can eat. He's in a gang. His "friends" are druggies and drug dealers. Now Shane's been tested and granted, he's smart enough not to do drugs but he's been drunk many times. He probably steals the money so he can buy liquor or bail his friends out.

Eve - They are probably the only people he can turn to. His mother threw him out of his home.

Jeff -(angry) That doesn't mean he's in the right for breaking the law

Eve - I'm not making an excuses for him. I'm trying to tell you that there are reasons for his behavior. We have to show him that he has some where else to turn. Does it say where the gang hangs out?

Jeff - There's a few places. They move around a lot because they don't want to be caught

Eve - (stands up) Then let's get a move on. We'll check all of them

Jeff - Whoa! Did you not just hear a word I said? These guys are druggies and dealers. They also have guns. Do you know what a gun is?

Eve - I'm not stupid Jeff, I know what a gun is and I know what they can do. The point is to get through to these kids before they start shooting

Jeff - Do you even watch the news?

Eve - I threw my television away

Jeff - Alex told me about this. I'm not saying you should sit on your ass watching TV all day but we have that technology to keep connected. How are you going to help people if don't know what goes on in the world, if you don't know who can helped?

Eve - By getting involved in the matter

Jeff - Without even knowing what you're getting involved in? That's not only dangerous, it's stupid. If you don't have any idea what these kids have gone through your words are going to sound hollow and fake. They won't trust you.

Eve - I never really thought about it in that way.

Jeff - If you remove yourself from the way life is here then you alienate yourself the very people you want to help.

Eve - Maybe I need to re think things but I can't right now. Shane needs help. That much I know, that much I understand.

Jeff - So what are you going to do? Are you going to do your fighting thing and get the guns out of their hands or are you going to get Alex to knock some sense into them?

Eve - I'm not going to hurt people Jeff. If I did, I would simply be perpetuating the cycle of violence that has ravaged the earth for centuries. That cycle has to be broken.

Jeff - Getting yourself killed is not going to help the matter

Eve - I'm not going to get myself killed because you're going to watch my back.

Eve walks over to the other side of Jeff's desk and picks him up by the collar of his shirt and drags him out

Jeff - Whoa!

COMMERCIAL

Cut to Evening. There is a rundown building in an alley way. Outside the alley way a car pulls up and parks on the side of the street. Eve gets out of the car with Jeff behind her.

Jeff - Last place on the list. I still can't believe you talked me into this

Eve - Where's the entrance to the building?

Jeff - In the alley

Eve and Jeff approach the alley way slowly. Looking around for anyone that might be lurking. They come to a run down door covered with graffiti. Jeff takes out his gun

Eve - (in a harsh whisper) Will you put that thing away!

Jeff - I supposed to watch your back remember

Eve - We don't need to provoke them

Jeff sighs and puts his gun away. Eve grasps the handle and turns it slowly. It's unlocked. She slowly opens the door and heads inside with Jeff behind her.

Cut to inside the building. There is tattered furniture around every where. Garbage litters the floor. The walls are covered in graffiti. The place is empty

Eve - Great the place is empty. Are you sure it was here?

Jeff - I'm positive that file said this was one of the hideouts. They must have cleared out before we got here

Eve and Jeff hear a groan over to the side. They turn their head to see Shane lying on the floor bruised and beaten

Eve - Shane!

Eve runs over and slowly picks him off the ground and lays his head in her lap

Eve - Shane? Shane, are you okay?

Shane groans a bit and slowly opens his eyes

Shane - Eve? (sees Jeff) Why'd you bring him here? I didn't do anything!

Eve - He's not here to arrest you! He's here to help me get you out of here.

Eve stands up with Shane supported on her shoulders.

Eve - We've got to get you out of here and to a hospital

Male voice - No one is going anywhere

Jeff, Eve and Shane turn around to find at least a dozen kids, girls and boys, no older then sixteen pointing guns at them

Male - You're in big trouble now Shane

Shane - Trev, I swear man, they just found me. I didn't lead them here or anything. (stands up straight with out Eve's support)Just let them go. They won't come back

Trev - (points to Jeff with his gun) That dude is a cop! A FREAKING COP!!

Jeff - Yeah that's right and I've got at least a dozen cop cars outside waiting for an excuse to take you in

Eve - (eyes widen and she harshly whispers) Jeff! What are you doing?

Jeff - (out of the side of his mouth) Trust me! (back to the group) If they hear any gun shots they'll be in here so fast you'll all be in the slammer by supper

Trev - We can be out by morning. You can't keep us! (takes the safety off his gun)

Eve - Wait! You don't have to do this. Shane is badly hurt . . .

Trev - I know. I hurt him. He came back with out the cash now we get the right to treat him like trash. Those are the rules

Eve - Those are some pretty dumb rules.

Trev - Like you know what we go through

Eve - I know what it's like to be alone. I grew up without any parents at all. Being shoved off from one care taker to another and no one cared.

Trev - Shut up Bitch!

Eve - (stands in front of Shane) I felt nothing but I wanted everything!! But I'll let you in on a secret. Nothing works! And when this is over you'll lose your life!!

Trev - (hesitating and looking scared. He's all talk) Shut up!

Eve - (slowly walking toward him) I know what you feel.

Trev - (he's shaking) YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT'S LIKE! NO ONE CARES!

Eve - I care! And a long time ago someone let me know that they cared for me. Once I let them, once I felt it, I wasn't scared or empty any longer. I feel alive and whole.

Trev is about to pull the trigger when Shane runs up and tackles him down. The gun is knocked out of Trev's hand

Eve - Shane, NO!

Trev and Shane scramble about. Trev grabs Shane by the hair but Shane pokes him in the eyes. The other kids are looking upon the scene scared and worried. They think there might actually be cops outside so they just look on. Shane goes for the gun. He grabs it and sticks the gun to Trev's head. Trev looks very scared now

Jeff - WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!! Drop the gun!

Eve - Do as he says!

Shane - He was going to kill you Eve.

Eve - And now you've stopped it, so you can put down the gun!

Shane - Don't you see? As soon as I let him go then he will kill you and kill me. It has to end

Eve - Yes it does but do you want it to end with blood on your hands? Right now you're just a thief but if you kill him you will be a murderer. Do you want that? Listen to me Shane and remember what I just said to Trev. I'm here to help you and I can but you have to put the gun down!

Shane - Why are you doing this? Why do you care if he gets hurt? Why do you care about me?

Eve - Because I was like you once but someone cared about me and helped me change. Everyone is redeemable

Jeff - (steps forward) Shane you can't end violence with more violence or you will just keep the cycle going. You kill him and someone will be around to kill you and someone else will demand revenge if you're killed. In this world hate never dispels hate. Only love dispels hate. Now give me the gun.

Shane slowly puts the gun in Jeff's hand and then releases Trev. Trev just sits there on the ground breathing heavily. He almost lost his life. He looks up at Eve who holds out her hand to him.

Trev - I was going to kill you. Why'd you save my life.

Eve - Someone has to.(She smiles)

Trev looks up at her and takes her hand allowing her to pull him up

Shane - What's going to happen to us now?

Eve looks to Jeff

Jeff - I'm going to take you guys in. Some of your charges are severe so you may go to juvenile hall but you'll have a chance to change when you get out. A lot of you will only need to do community service. After that you can be put into families who will care for you or you can do into communal homes that will help you get a job and your own place to live.

Eve - And I will help you. All of you.

Fade to outside the building later on. Some cops and social workers are taking the kids in. Jeff and Eve are walking behind the group of kids.

Eve - Those were some nice words in there. That only love dispels hate, I like that.

Jeff - This is law. Ancient and inexhaustible

Eve - (smiles) Yeah. That's beautiful

Jeff - You like that huh? Those are wise words right out of the Dhammapada

Eve - Buddhist right?

Jeff - Martin Luther King Jr used a lot of quotes from there. Words to live by. You see Eve, you don't need to be completely ancient or completely one way to achieve a path or goal. You've got to learn to intertwine. Make the past part of the present to achieve a better future. You did it today when you talked to those kids.

Eve - I thought I was failing in my path because I failed Craig.

Jeff - Life is many things Eve, never one way. There will always be failures as there will be triumphs. There's no sure fire one method that will bring around ever lasting peace. You have to intertwine, learn from your mistakes, adapt and rearrange. You don't have to change everything when one thing doesn't go your way. You proved you still follow your path in this century, not by giving up all wealth and desire but doing what you do best, helping and caring. That is what can save Craig.

Jeff raises his eyebrows at Eve making sure he's made his point and walks off leaving Eve with something to think about

PRESENT DAY

Fade from the previous scene to Eve as she puts the girl down and goes over to join Alex at the juice bar when she sees Jeff come in. She has a huge smile on her face

Alex - What's got you in a good mood?

Jeff - Plenty. Eve, it was a great idea getting those kids involved in big brothers and sisters.

Eve - And I've got a lot of other ideas for programs that can help kids. I just wish there was more I could do.

Alex - You're turning kids on the right path, getting families back together and a little demon hunting on the side. This is what we're all about Eve.

Jeff - You know you could spread your message on a global scale. If you still had your computer . . .

Eve - (rolls her eyes and smiles) Save it Jeff. You have convinced me that there are some benefits to technology. Like you said, I've got to intertwine.

James walks over to Eve and hands her cell phone over to her

James - Since you're back into the fold I thought you might like this back

Eve looks at the phone then at James

James - You still accept gifts don't you? Cause that's what it is.

Eve - (takes the phone) Thanks

Shane walks over to Eve holding a little brown haired boy in his arms. Several of kids his age come up behind him holding on to the hands of little kids, smiling.

Shane - Eve, we better head on over to the park. These kids want to play a few games before lunch

Eve - (smiles) Sounds good.

Eve picks up a little girl that tugged on her jacket. Eve smiles broadly and waves goodbye to Alex, James and Jeff who smile back. Eve walks out with the kids surrounding her.

Fade to the park. Kids are split up into groups playing jumping around and running and laughing with each other. Eve looks over all of them from a park bench.

Eve - (voice over commentary) It's new day. There is always a promise for a better day. I will save you Craig. This is my promise.
