EVE
Episode 3:2

Open with a pan over Istanbul fading from the Blue Mosque, St. Sophia to the Topkapi palace then to a bird's eye view of a crowded street. Fade out to Craig and Eve standing outside the airport taking in the culture. Their awe is distracted as a cab stops in front of them. They make a move to get in the cab.

Cut to Eve and Craig sitting in the cab as they drive through the streets. Eve is looking at the scenery as they drive by.

Eve - (voice over commentary) Should I be here? With all that has happened I know that I need to seek out the answers to my destiny but I'm afraid. What if the answers are not what I expect? What if I can't handle the truth of why I'm here? Am I even suppossed to know?(looks over to Craig looking out his own window then turns back) And what about Craig? What answers await him on this journey? After all he has suffered he needs to know is why. We both need answers. There's no turning back now.

Craig - Eve

Eve turns to Craig who is looking at her as the cab slows to a stop.

Craig - We're here

Eve and Craig step out of the cab with their bags slung over their shoulder. Eve gasps as she comes around the cab to look at the building.

Pan around Craig and Eve as they look at the large stone temple draped in colourful banners and tapestries all displaying the symbol of Eli.

Fade to the inside of the Temple of Eli. We pan down the long stone corridor lined with portraits and banners to the entrance where Eve and Craig stand. Craig smiles as he looks down the hall and reminisces while Eve looks around her in wondrous awe.

Eve - This is the last Temple of Eli?

Craig - Yeah. I can't believe it's been seven years since I was last here.

Craig begins walking down the hall as Eve trails slowly behind distracted by the portraits.

Craig - The main hall is at the end of the corridor. (when he doesn't get a response he stops and turns around to see Eve staring at the portraits) Eve?

Eve - Who are these people?

Craig - This (gestures around him) is the Line of Messengers. Each of these portraits display a Messenger of Eli of the time.

Eve - Line of Messengers?

Craig - The line of Messengers are chosen successors to carry the mantle and the purpose of The Messenger. Each Messenger has chosen someone to succeed them after they die. Sometimes its a blood heir.

Eve - (takes a deep breath) How come you've never told me all this before?

Craig - When you first came here, you were already dealing with so much and still trying to adjust to the time. I didn't want to overwhelm you.

A portrait of a dignified women catches Eve's eye. She walks over to it and Craig joins her.

Eve - Who's this?

Craig - That is Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. She was the Messenger of Eli during the Crusades. She was the first one to suggest that maybe Messengers could fight. They can fight for peace. She was an intelligent and brave woman. It's even said that she founded a new order of Amazons to protect her while she travelled to the Holy land to assist her son. Let me show you something.

Craig drags Eve over to a portrait of a handsome brown haired bearded man dressed in deep blue robes. He looked dignified, strong and yet serene.

Craig - (takes a deep breath and smiles) This is Ewan the Great. My grandmother told me about him and I molded my life and mission around his teachings. He is probably the greatest Messenger, besides you of course. He was known as the Warrior Poet. It's said his words were as sharp as his swords. He never killed anyone, that was his rule. He was the last Messenger of Eli. He died a hundred years ago, no children, no named successor and the line died and the world was without a Messenger. It all went down hill from there.

Eve - Downhill? What do you mean?

Craig - That's when the hell mouths started to open up. Then the world wars, the great depression, the cold war, death, terrorism and conspiracy. Nobody fights for his or her beliefs anymore, they just die for them.

Craig walks away with a sigh and looks up at another portrait. Eve continues to look at the portrait of Ewan the Great while thinking about something. She turns around to look at Craig

Eve - Why did you bring me to this time instead of him? He was a great Messenger as you say and it was only a hundred years since he lived, wouldn't it have made more sense to bring him?

Craig - (turns around with a smile)The spell I performed was meant for you. Besides, why settle for second best?

Eve beams, a huge smile spreading across her face as she walks over to Craig. He nods his head up to the portrait he was looking at and Eve looks up at a portrait of her. At the bottom of the portrait the caption states "Eve the First."

Craig smiles as he heads into the main hall. Eve takes one last look at the portrait. She follows Craig into the hall

Cut to the main hall. We pan around the large stone hall. It is bright inside from the large open windows and completely silent, save for the soft chanting. The hall is filled with monks adorned is blue and green robes, praying or chanting or lighting candles at one of the many shrines with statues and symbols of Eli. A monk on the far side of the hall looks up and sees them. He makes he's way over

Craig - (whispers to Eve) That's the monk that gave me the talisman

His long dark dreadlocked haired and kind bearded face reminded Eve of Eli (or someone else she couldn't put her finger on) as he approached and bowed before them. Craig and Eve bowed back showing their respect.

Monk - I see you have found the answers you were looking for

Craig - How did you know I . . . (smiles and shakes his head)I'm surprised you even remembered.

Monk - I gave you possession of a divine gift and I did because I knew you needed help.

Craig - Well your riddles didn't help much. It took my five years to really figure out what it meant.

The monk looked at Craig with a smile and knowing eyes. Craig was confused until he smiled and nodded when he finally caught on.

Craig - I was meant to figure it out when I was meant to know.

The monk looked over to Eve and took her hands in his and smiled. Eve smiled back.

Monk - Greetings. Welcome to the temple of Eli. I am Azariah and you must be the answer to his prayers.

Eve smiles and blushes as she looks away

Azariah. - And yet I sense that you too seek answers. That is why you are here

Eve - A lot has happened since I came to Craig two years ago. So many things are unclear. Our paths are hidden.

Azariah - (nods) I know something that might illuminate the way.

Fade to Eve and Craig with their backpacks on their shoulders late in the afternoon trekking through terrain.

Azariah - (voice over)What you seek is to make sense of all you have experienced. You must go to the resting place of the first messenger. There your path will become clear.

Craig - (looks up at the sun) Well we're not going to make it there today. Night is coming. We'll have to camp over night but . . . (looks at the map and then his compass) We should head east a little farther before setting up camp

Eve - We also should be careful especially when we get close to the tomb. It could be guarded and we don't want any trouble, just answers.

Craig - (shakes his head) You died some two thousand years ago Eve. No one knows your tomb even exits with the exception of those monks at the temple. Who would be there to guard it?

As Craig and Eve turn right pass a large tree, a silhouette of a person appears from behind, then ducks behind the tree again.

Fade to flames. Pan back from the flames to see that it is a campfire. Panning back farther we see Eve sitting up on her sleeping bag. She is deep in thought with her arms resting on her knees. To her far left we see Craig who stirs restlessly on the ground. He turns over to see Eve still up.

Craig - (groggily) Can't sleep

Eve - No. You?

Craig - (sits up) Definitely having trouble. Is there something wrong? You know, other than the sleeping conditions.

Eve - (smiles wryly) I used to thrive in this kind of environment. I've just got a lot on my mind

Craig - About?

Eve - What I might find tomorrow.

Craig - (sighs) We all have to face the truth, no matter how much it scares us.

Eve - Are you? Scared I mean.

Craig - Terrified.

Eve- (looks away) Craig . . . I've been meaning to ask you something for a while now. It's about that time I did that search of your mind when you were melded with Thuvan.

Craig - I remember. That's probably the only thing that's the most clear during that time.

Eve - (continues to look at her hands) When you showed me that memory of you and Alex, before you dragged off by Roman soldiers, I saw you and Alex kiss. Was that an actual memory?

Craig - I was prisoner in my own mind with no power over anything. My memories were the only thing I had. I used a memory to get your attention. I didn't mean to use that one in particular but it was the only one I could come up with at the time. It was a real memory though, up to a point.

Eve - Then you and Alex did kiss!

Craig - We were drunk Eve. It didn't mean anything

Eve- (looks at him sharply) How do you know that? Did you even ask Alex about it?

Craig - She didn't mention anything so I didn't bring it up.

Eve - When is Alex ever up front about anything? She loves you Craig!

Craig - (laughs a little) Of course she does. We've known each other our whole lives. She's my best friend

Eve - (sighs and begins to turn over getting in her sleeping bag) You don't get it.

Craig - (looks over to her) What do you mean?

Eve - We should get some sleep we have a busy day tomorrow. We should try to get to the tomb before midday.

Craig - No wait. What do you mean I don't get it? What don't I get it?

Eve - (doesn't turn over to look at Craig she stays on her side with her back turned to him) Alex loves you Craig. You figure it out.

Craig with a very confused look on his face lays back down again trying to decipher what Eve meant

Cut to the next day. The sun shines bright above them as they reach the tomb. It's covered in vines and the top of the tomb is crumbling from erosion and time. There is nothing special about it at all, just slabs of rock

Craig - That's it? I was thinking of something more . . .grand.

Eve and Craig walk over to the door way.

Eve - It's perfect.

Craig - Sure if the roof doesn't collapse on our heads (looks at the entrance way sealed up. There are cracks in the stone but it's still solid. (Craig begins to look around the side of the entrance) There doesn't seem to be opening. Maybe there is a lever or something that is used to open it up

Eve walks up to the entrance spins around and kicks the stone in leaving a huge hole with even more rock falling away.

Craig - (sarcastic) Or we can just kick it in. You've been spending far too much time with Alex.

Eve just smiles and climbs in the hole. Craig sighs before giving a quick look around before climbing in after her.

Pan off to the side of the tomb where there is a hand holding a sword.

Cut to inside the tomb. Craig lights a torch. All Craig and Eve can see from the light is a set of stairs leading down. Eve and Craig look at each other confused but make their way slowly downstairs.

Cut to a dark chamber. Eve and Craig appear through an entrance, the light from the torch illuminating them. Craig lights the two torches by the entrance and the whole chamber lights up. Eve and Craig gasp.

Pan around the chamber as Eve and Craig walk forward. The chamber is made out of blocks of stone decorated in lavish tapestries, banners with the Eli symbol and marble statues of both Eli and Eve. Around the statues there are offerings of flowers and fruit and they are fresh. Nothing is dusty, everything is clean.

Eve - Grand enough for you?

Craig - Whoa!

Eve - (looking around) There must be some old scriptures or writings around here somewhere. I don't see any cabinets or any markings on the wall that would indicate where they would be. They might be hidden. Check around.

Craig nods and heads over to one of the statues. He looks around and behind the statues. After finding nothing he stops for a moment and looks at the fresh flowers and fruit.

Craig - Eve, the fruit and the flowers, they're fresh. I've been wrong. All this time I thought no one knew but people must come here still to bring you offerings and pray for guidance.

Voice - Only a select few

Craig and Eve turn their heads sharply to see who is speaking. A woman in brown leather pants and top with feathers in her hair stands with a sword ready in her hand. She looks like Varia, Queen of the one tribe.

Eve - (shocked) Varia?

Woman - This is sacred ground. (points her sword at them) And you are trespassing.

Eve looks over to Craig worried but Craig looks over to the Amazon sharply

Craig - Eve! LOOK OUT!

Eve looks back just in time to be tackled by the Varia look alike. As Eve goes down to the ground she flips the woman over her then propels herself up with her legs and turns around quick.

Craig is about to run over to help Eve when two other women is similar attire bound down the stairs with their swords drawn. They see Craig.

Craig - Damn

Craig finds a long wooden pole and twirls it around like a staff ready for the two amazons. The amazons raise their swords and strike down on Craig. The sword met the staff and the blades become lodged in the wood of the staff and Craig yanks the swords away from the Amazons and tosses them to the side. Craig then swings the staff around and hits both women in the head then swipes their feet out from under them.

Pan back over to the Varia look alike who is slashing her sword around at Eve who is dodging the swipes. Eve ducks under one swipe and then swings her leg around and knocks the sword out of the Amazon's hand.

Cut back to Craig and the Amazons. One of the Amazons gets up to attack Craig again. Craig spins the staff around and slams it in to her side then head butts her effectively knocking her out. Craig stumbles back slightly dazed while the other Amazon comes over and kicks him in the side causing him to double over.

Cut back to Eve who sees this

Eve - Craig!!

The Varia look alike takes advantage of her distraction and grabs Eve by the arm and throws her in to a nearby wall causing her to crack the stone and some statues to fall around her and crash. Eve gets back up

Eve flips over to the Amazon spins around and kicks the Amazon in the chest.

Cut back over to Craig who jumps up and kicks the remaining Amazon in face. She stumbles back but then charges toward Craig. She is about to punch Craig when Craig takes her arm and snaps it up breaking the bone. The Amazon screams as he flips her over his back and throws her headfirst into the wall knocking her out. Craig whips around to see Eve and the Varia look alike throwing and blocking punches.

Craig - EVE!

Eve and the Amazon grab a hold of each other and struggle in the process they throw themselves into the wall breaking right through. Craig, surprised, runs over to hole where Eve and the Varia look alike fell through but as he reaches it, it magically seals up

Craig - (puts his hands against the newly sealed wall) NO!!

Deep Voice - Finally! I thought they'd never leave.

Craig spins around in surprised to find a dignified figure in armor and blue wings. It is the Archangel Michael!

Cut to Eve and the Varia look alike tumbling down. They both end up on their backs when they stop. They lay there for a bit taking deep breaths. Eve puts her hand to her head and groans. She looks to the Amazon who looks back at her in surprise. The Amazon springs up and into a fighting stance. Eve gets up quickly and puts her hands up in defense.

Eve - Stop! I don't want to fight you Varia

Woman - (looks at Eve in confusion) Who are you talking to?

Eve - (shakes her head) Sorry . . .you just look someone I know. What's your name? (the Amazon hesitates to speak remaining on the defensive) Look, we're stuck here for now, if we're going to find a way out we have to work together. It would help if you tell me your name.

Amazon - Morgan.

Eve - (brushes herself off) What are you doing here?

Morgan - (annoyed) I've been charged with protecting this tomb from thieves like you. It's my duty as an Amazon

Eve - I didn't come here to steal anything. I just came here for answers.

Morgan - Answers? Who are you?

Eve - You wouldn't believe me if I told you

Morgan - Try me.

Eve - Just forget it. I thought the Amazons were all gone.

Morgan - (proudly) I'm an Aquitaine Amazon. A special tribe created by Eleanor herself, charged with the duty of protecting the Messenger of Eli. Since there are no Messengers left, we protect the tomb of the first one.

Eve - (shakes her head trying to wrap her head around everything) Let's just try to find a way out of here. Where ever here is?

Eve and Morgan look around the bare room. The only thing there is a large stone coffin in the centre of the room.

Morgan - No way.(gasps in surprise and amazement) This is the burial chamber of Eve the First. No one had been in here for two thousand years.

Eve walks over to the coffin and is hesitant to touch it at first but then runs her hand over the cool stone and closes her eyes and takes a deep breath.

Eve - (nothing more then a whisper) Wow.

Morgan - There's supposedly a great power kept within the tomb that could be very dangerous if it were to fall in the wrong hands.

Eve - Did you volunteer for the job of protecting the tomb?

Morgan - No. . . well sort of. I am to repay a debt. that I owed Eve in a past life.

Eve - Varia didn't owe me anything

Morgan - What?

Eve - (not really listening as she slides her hands along the coffin) How does this thing open? This thing is solid rock. Is there even a body in here?

Morgan - You're kidding me right? If you're some archaeologist thinking you're making the biggest find of the century I'll stop you. And even if you got past me, which is impossible, there's no way you could get into this coffin.

While looking for an opening Eve looks up at Morgan and then rolls her eyes. She then finds an Eli symbol carved into the stone on the top.

Morgan - Mystics and shamans put spells and protections on this tomb. Only A Messenger's blood can open it. Pretty clever huh?

Eve - Yeah

Eve takes a dagger out of her boot and cuts her hand. Immediately blood comes to the surface. She flexes her hand so the blood drips from her hand on to the Eli symbol until it fills the groove.

Morgan - (shocked) What are you doing?

Eve - I'm getting answers

The Eli symbol begins to glow a beam of light cuts through the stone making the top half removable

Morgan gasps in shock and surprise. She looks at Eve with awe and shock evident in her wide eyes

Morgan - You're her

Eve looks to Morgan before pushing the top half of the coffin back. Suddenly Eve in enveloped in a huge flash of light whitening everything out

COMMERCIAL

Cut to Craig eyeing Michael wearily. Craig doesn't know who he is

Craig - Who . . .? What are you?

Michael - (smiles a little) You really don't know. And here I thought the wings would be a give-away

Craig - Are you an . . .angel? An Archangel?!

Michael - We've been watching you for a long time Craig. We've seen you fight along side Eve.

Craig - So you're here to see Eve.

Michael - No. I'm here to see you.

Cut to Eve laying on the ground. She groans a little and begins to wake up. She sits up and looks around. She is in what seems to be a black room. Suddenly a hand reaches down offering to help her up. Eve looks up and looks slightly startled at the figure. She takes a hold of the hand and is pulled up. We pan up and see Archangel Raphael.

Eve - You?

Raphael - As the angel of Love, it was thought that I should deliver the answers you seek.

Eve - (realization dawns) And your other name is Azariah. That is the name you use as a monk at the Temple of Eli!! You gave Craig the talisman of Eli. You must have known he would break the laws of time and space to bring me here.

Raphael - Craig broke no laws. He didn't even bend them.

Eve - But I was taken out of my time.

Raphael - Craig didn't perform a spell to bring you out of your time. His grandmother knew of his destiny. She wrote a spell especially for Craig to use with the talisman. He just misinterpreted what it was.

Eve - I don't understand. What was the talisman for?

Raphael - Think back. Before you first woke up in the 21'st century, what do you remember before that moment?

Eve - I was sitting near a River in Persia. I was with a man named Darien

*flash*

Scene from Promise of a New Day

Eve smiles and pats the hand that lays on her shoulder. Darien takes off his talisman and hands it to Eve. She takes it and looks at the Eli symbol carved into the stone. She traces the symbol with her finger and gives it a kiss.

Raphael - (voice) With a simple kiss you breathed life into that stone and your essence, your life force was stored.

Cut back to Darien. He moves his hand from her shoulder and places it flat on her back. He whispers a few words incoherent to us. Eve's attention snaps up as the river begins to bubble.

*end flash*

Eve- Darien was a shaman?

Raphael - Yes. On the eve you converted him I visited him in a dream and told him what he must do. He came to a temple of Eli shortly after your death and gave the talisman to me. I told him that when the time comes it will be returned to him.

Eve- But you gave the talisman to Craig (realization dawns upon Eve)

Raphael - (nods) Craig is the reincarnation of Darien. Craig released your essence through that spell

Cut to Craig and Michael in the tomb's main hall.

Michael - You are all connected. Eve, you, Alex, James, Jeff. Even Morgan.

Craig - What are you talking about?

Michael - You share a destiny with Eve. You were meant to walk this path with her. She has shaped your destiny. And you have helped shape hers.

Craig - How?

Michael - The spell you performed didn't take Eve from the past. That spell only freed her essence. In a past life you were a shaman, dark and twisted. Eve saved you from that life. As Darien, you devoted your life to her mission. Eve chose you to be a disciple but we chose you for a much greater task.

Craig - Task?

Michael - We all knew the line of Messengers would come to an end. Mankind has free will after all. We took steps to seal the first Messenger's life force within a talisman so when she was needed again she could return.

Craig - I sealed Eve's life force in a talisman in a past life and released it in this life. All because she saved a past version of me?

Michael - Makes your head spin doesn't it? The intricate mysteries of the universe. Eve saved Darien and he saved her spirit. You, a reincarnation, released her spirit and Eve saved you again. You must admit, there is a symmetry to it.

Craig - (trying to wrap his head around it) No kidding.

Michael - Jeff shares in this connection. If it wasn't for his line, you wouldn't be here. His ancestor was a shamaness who worked with the Phoenix Warrior, an ancestor on your Mother's side. In fact this Shamaness delivered the Phoenix Warrior's son and if it wasn't for Xena saving this shamaness when she was a young girl there would be no Jeff.

Craig - (nods his head piecing things together)And James is a reincarnation of Virgil. That's obvious.

Michael - As Virgil he never fulfilled his destiny. Now with his skills he will be able to help Eve more than he ever could before. And Morgan, well, her destiny will be revealed in time.

Craig looks at Michael strangely for a moment as he has no idea who Morgan is, but another thought occurs to him

Craig - What about Alex?

Michael - Eve set in motion her destiny. Eve was the Bringer of Twilight. Hades sought to kill her, so Xena killed him. Persephone was pushed into the arms of Evander and Alexandra was born. If it wasn't for Eve, she wouldn't be here and her abilities make her an asset to your mission. But soon you'll have to decide if she's worth it?

Craig - What's that supposed to mean?

Michael - Loyalties will be divided Craig. You will have to decide where yours lie. Sacrifices will have to made for the greater good.

Cut back to Eve and Raphael in the black room.

Eve - Tell me about the Line of Messengers. Are they my decedents?

Raphael - Your daughter decreed that there shall be a Line of Messengers. Protectors of knowledge and hope. Teaching the words of prophets, avatars and the divine.

Eve - My daughter? Craig said I didn't have any children.

Raphael - You found a two year old girl beside the body of her mother after raiders stormed their town. You took her in and raised the girl yourself. In your eyes she was your daughter and she felt that you were her mother. You named her after the mother of your most loved Mentor. You named her Mary.

Eve - (smiles sadly) And Mary began the line. She was my daughter and I will never know her. But then I'm just a shadow of a dead woman. Am I even really me?

Raphael - Oh yes. You are a real person with real memories and feelings. Your lifeforce was preserved at the beginning of your journey as The Messenger. In time you are learning how to be the Messenger that this century needs. You are the same as the one who lies in that coffin, you are just forging a different future.

Eve - But why me? Why not Elanor, or Ewan or Mary

Raphael - You are the first. The line first started with you. It must be re established with you. Teach people a different way, free from past prejudices. Only you as you are right now can save the people with love and protect the world

Cut back to Michael and Craig

Craig - Sacrifices for the greater good? Haven't I made enough already?

Michael - Thuvan took your life and your soul unjustly. It was only right that it should be restored. Do think you're being punished?

Craig - The memories of Thuvan are killing me! I feel like its changing me to something dark. Some days I can't bear it!

Michael - But you are bearing it. You are stronger because of it.

Craig - It was my mission to fight evil. But what it my mission now? I've been evil.

Micheal- Yes! Before you were just fighting because it was your legacy. Now you know what it is you're fighting, and you must protect the world from it! You were forged in fire like steel. You are the sword that will strike down the enemy! You will fight back the darkness and Eve will light the way.

Craig - Eve . . .I need to find her.

Michael - And so you shall.

Michael walks over to the wall he sealed up the same one Eve and Morgan broke through. He presses on and Eli symbol. The stone moves to show an entrance. Craig walks over to the entrance but before entering looks at Michael

Craig - Thank you

Michael - Take heed of my warning Craig and may love and faith guide your way

Cut to Eve and Raphael.

Eve - What is the power that lies within the coffin?

Raphael - The only true power in this world is not beyond anyone's reach! What you speak of is Lao Ma's book. A manuscript of her teachings. Your mother mastered Lao Ma's abilities and so must you.

Eve - Thank you. I don't how much of this I understand but things feel like they are falling into place.

Rapheal - Things are forever changing. I must warn you that your loyalties will soon be tested. Lines we be drawn. Events will happen will forever change the course of your life and those of your friends.

Eve - What do you mean?

Raphael - Sacrifices will have to made if the greater good is to prevail. Will you be able to do that? Your mother was not always so willing.

Eve - I am my mother's daughter but at the same time I am not Xena.

Raphael - Then go now Eve the First and may love and faith guide your way.

In a flash of light Eve is back in the burial chamber beside her coffin. Morgan puts a hand on her shoulder shaking her out of trance

Morgan - Hey! What's wrong with you?

Eve - What? (looks around realizing all that transpired may have been in her head)

Morgan - You went all spacey and zoned out for like a whole minute.

Eve looks down in the coffin and sees nothing but dust. She looks surprised and Morgan catches the look

Morgan - Yeah that was my reaction. I was expecting to see a skeleton or something. But it was 2000 years ago and they didn't preserve the body so I guess ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Eve moves the dust around and finds the book of wisdom. She picks it up out of the coffin.

Craig - (voice) Eve! Eve?

Eve - (calls out) In here.

Morgan - It really is you? You're Eve the First?

Craig runs into the burial chamber. He stops short at seeing Morgan but then runs over to Eve.

Craig - Eve are you alright?

Eve - I don't know. How does one feel when you've been told why you're here?
