EVE
Episode 2:16

Open with a pan of an elaborately decorated room. Tapestries and bronze shields and weapons cover the stone walls. We pan past a window that lets the light shine in then we pan along a wooden table to where a young girl sits. She has bright blue eyes and long brown hair done up in elaborate curls. She is dressed in red and cream coloured fabrics. She has her chin propped up on her hand and she is looking very bored. A woman comes up behind her and grabs her wrist pulling her hand out from under her chin. The girl stumbles forward slightly on the table. We pan up to the face of an elegantly dressed older woman.

Woman - Sit up straight Livia! Stop slouching and pay attention!!

We pan back down to Livia and pan past her into the darkness and fade in to a cozy little living room. A ten year old Alex is sitting on a couch in her pjs. The light from the TV is illuminating her face. Her eyes are wide and she has a big smile on her face. We pan over to the TV to see a cartoon on it.

TV - For the Honour of Greyskull! I am She - ra.

We pan past the TV into the darkness and fade to a playground. Three children are playing.

Kid - Come on Jeff! I'll trade you my spider man comic for your slinky

Woman - (voice) I don't think so.

We pan up to see a woman standing there looking disapprovingly at two of the children.

Kid - Hello Mrs. Morrison

Mrs. Morrison - Jeffery, Natalie we're going home now.

Jeff and Natalie - (in unison) Yes Mom!

Jeff and Natalie take their mother's hand and follow her out of the playground.

Jeff - Mom can I get a comic book?

Mrs. Morrison - No baby, you don't need those.

Jeff - Why not?

Mrs. Morrison - Because it's junk

Jeff - But Mom, Dave told me comic books are full of super heroes who do neat things and have special powers and fight evil!

Mrs. Morrison turns around and kneels down in front of her children.

Mrs. Morrison - Listen to me. Hopes and dreams are beautiful but those "books" don't have beautiful dreams, they have violence and lies. (sighs) There are no such things as heroes.

Jeff and Natalie nod and Mrs. Morrison takes their hands and continues walking away. We fade from this scene.

PRESENT DAY
Fade to a pan along the streets of New York. Fade in to a close up of some of the shops. Cut to a shot of Eve walking along the side walks smiling at people as she passes. She passes an appliance store with television sets in the window. One set shows the animated show "Justice League," another shows "Superman” starring Christopher Reeve and another shows 1960's "Batman." Eve smiles, shakes her head and continues walking.

Eve - (voice over commentary) I've noticed that people in the 21st century like to find an escape from the real world. I've never understood the way people here gravitate to fiction. Maybe its because the good guys always win and the bad guys lose. I suppose these shows give people hope, that evil can always be defeated by good. Unfortunately real life doesn't happen the way it appears on television.

Eve walks by a costume store filled with Batman costumes, Wonder woman costumes and Xena costumes. She stares at the costume and smiles a little.

Eve - (voice over commentary) The one thing I do understand is that everyone needs a hero. They inspire us to be better than we are. They show us what the world can be. But everyone continues to look for the heroes that don't exist.

Eve continues walking by a comic book store just as Officer Glen Roads walks out of the store loaded down with comic books. He bumps into Eve not looking where he was going and drops his comic books

Glen - Ow!

Eve - Oh! Glen I'm sorry

Glen - (bends down to pick up his books) No it's okay. I wasn't watching where I was going anyway

Eve bends down to help pick up the comic books and hands them to Glen. She picks the last one up as they both stand up. She flips through the comic.

Eve - X men? What's that?

Glen - Oh! Genetically enhanced human beings, mutants. They fight against bad mutants who want to get rid of all normal people. They also fight for mutants and humans to leave peacefully together.

Eve - (little enthusiasm) Sounds fascinating. Aren't regular people minus the "mutants" trying to do that anyway?

Glen - Yeah, but that's no fun

Eve - Nope, I'm just never going to get it.(she shakes her head and continues to walk down the street)

Glen shrugs and continues to walks down the street with his comic books

Cut to the Police Station. Glen walks in the Police Station. His view is blocked with comic books, boxes of donuts and trays of coffee. Police officers left right and centre comes up behind, pass by and circle around Glen taking coffee, donuts and the odd comic book. As soon as they clear Glen shakes his head and walks over to sit down at his desk. Jeff walks over but not before grabbing a donut from a box on the other desk and walking over to Glen.

Jeff - Coffee run again huh?

Glen - Yeah.

Jeff takes a bite out of his donut and looks at the stack of comic books on Glen's desk. He picks one up and looks at it.

Jeff - What's this?

Glen - A little something to do in my off time but more specifically, that would be a Green Lantern comic.

Jeff - I can't believe you are reading this trash. How old are you anyway?

Glen – What? It’s a pastime, a source of enjoyment in my otherwise dull existence.

Jeff - It's also a waste of time.

Glen – Yeah, well so is TV.

Glen swings around and puts his feet on his desk and a donut in his mouth. He picks up a comic and begins reading. Jeff shakes his head and walks off, one of the comic books still in his hand. Jeff walks over to his own desk and sits down. He throws the comic book on his desk and sees the cover. He becomes intrigued. He looks at the Green Lantern comic book. His eyes begin to shine with child like glee and he smiles

Jeff - Wow!

Angle in on the cover of the comic book with a picture of the Green Lantern on the front

Pan over New York as the sun sets. Fade to the centre and fade to the inside. Alex is counting the money and smiling while Jeff is sitting at the end of the counter reading. Eve comes out of the backroom.

Alex – (singing) Money Money Money. Money!

Eve laughs at Alex and walks over to Jeff and grabs the comic book out from under him.

Jeff - Hey!

Eve - Oh not you too! Your friend Glen is in to these.

Jeff - I know. That's where I got this from. These comics really are neat!

Alex - Neat? How old are you? Five. It’s like you never read a comic before.

Jeff - Never watched TV either. My parents think things like comic books are a complete waste of time. My mom always said that I shouldn't waste my time with fantasy idolization and find real hereos.

Eve - She's right.

Alex – In this world and this age? Please. Come on Eve, you never had a childhood hero before?

Eve – I never wanted one. I wanted my mother

Alex – (stops short and looks a little guilty) Yikes! Sorry

Eve – Don’t be. I guess this is just another one of those 21’st century things that I’ll just never get.

Jeff - I never had a hero before either. I lived in a rough part of town and I couldn’t see the good not even within myself.

Eve – Jeff?

Jeff – I lived in a bad part of the city and . . . life was scary. My parents tried to maintain this purity . . . tried to make us live the natural life. No TV, no junk food, no preservatives. Clean, healthy carefree days. But they couldn’t protect me and my sister from . . . life. I was afraid of this world and what it was doing to me; I didn’t want to face it. I tried to drown my life in drinking, hoping it would just go away.

Alex – Addiction is the scariest thing of all

Eve - Didn't you say that someone out of the goodness of their heart helped you and put you through re-hab?

Jeff - Yeah and that's where I met Craig and we kind of bonded through experiences. I learned that life was nothing to be afraid of, that the world wasn’t all cruel and unjust and that I could fill it with good things. After rehab Craig and I went our separate ways but we both knew we wanted to do something good in this world. We knew we could change it for the better and be real heroes.

Alex – (her watch beeps and she looks at it) Speaking of which. It’s time to do that thing that makes us heroes.

Fade to later that night. We pan around a cemetery. We pan over to Alex as she swings her sword around as she sits on a tombstone while Jeff is just leaning against another tombstone, he’s chatting with Alex. We pan up and see Eve up in a tree trying to keep a look out.

Eve – (she shouts down) We should keep moving.

Alex and Jeff aren’t listening

Jeff – Who was your childhood hero?

Alex - She -ra.

Jeff – Huh?

Alex - She -ra. You know? Princess of Power. This is going to sound strange but she taught me what it was like to be a true hero

Eve - (jumps down from the tree) Are you even listening to me?

Alex – Sorry?

Eve – (sighs) I said we should keep moving. (shakes her head) Honestly. Is that all you can do? Talk about the past?

Alex – Just because you don’t like to relive it doesn’t mean others can’t reminisce.

Eve – Instead of fake demons, can we concentrate on the real ones please?!

Alex – And be real heroes instead of talking about fake ones?

Eve – Exactly

Alex – (jumps off the headstone and walks past Eve) I think you’re just jealous!

Eve – (laughs) What!

Jeff – (walks up to her) Are you? I mean, you said it yourself, you didn’t have much of a childhood. You seem very annoyed by those who do have childhood memories.

Eve – I’m . . . No! I . . .

Jeff looks at Eve with raised eyebrows. She’s been caught.

Eve doesn’t have time to respond. Alex Eve and Jeff hear a scream. They take off toward it.

Cut to the park. A young woman is screaming as she watches a hairy ape like creature scratch and tears at her boyfriend. Alex Eve and Jeff run to the area.

Alex - Aw man! Anyone have a tranquilizer gun?

Eve - Alex stun it!

Alex throws a small blue sphere at the creature. It screams a little and looks to whoever threw it. It spots Eve Alex and Jeff. It gets off the man it's attacking and advances toward the trio. The beast begins to charge toward them at full speed

Alex - GANGWAY!!!!

Eve and Jeff jump out of the way as Alex shoots a stream of blue energy toward the creature but it just jumps off and catches on to the branch of a tree, the energy stream missing him

Alex- You're not supposed to have smarts!

Cut to Eve and Jeff. They run over to the young couple. The girl is helping her boyfriend up as Jeff and Eve assist.

Girl – That . . . that monster would have torn him to shreds.

Jeff - He's pretty beaten up! (brings out his cell phone) I'll call an ambulance

Eve - (looks at the girl) Are you alright?

The girl nods and Eve looks over to Alex who is being held over the beast's head.

Eve - Jeff, take care of these people

Eve runs over to the creature. She jumps up and kicks it in the stomach with both legs. Eve just bounces off. The beast looks at Eve. It drops Alex and begins to go after Eve. Using this opportunity Alex jumps up on the monster's back.

Alex - All right Tons of Fun! Let's dance!

Eve - Alex be careful with him! He might not even be a demon!

The creature begins to swing Alex around trying to get her off

Alex – Oh! Fine time to tell me!!

The beast starts going berserk. In the background Jeff hears the ambulance coming and heads the couple in that direction. The beast, seeing the lights, goes wild. He throws Alex off him and pushes Eve out of the way. It bounds toward the ambulance. A police car is there too. The girl sees it coming and screams again.

Jeff - Quick! Hand me the tranq gun!

Jeff is tossed a tranquilizer gun from the police car. Jeff aims for the beast and gives it two shots. It continues to bound toward the crowd. It hits the gun out of Jeff's hand then picks him up by the neck and throws him head first into a tree before bounding off in the other direction with several cops in pursuit.

Cut to Alex and Eve running over. In the distance they saw Jeff get thrown. They rush to his side by the tree. There is blood pouring down the side of his head and he's unconscious.

Eve - Jeff!!

COMMERCIAL

Cut to a hospital room. It's early morning. The sun has begun to rise and the light is streaming through the window. We pan over to a hospital bed that Jeff is lying in unconscious. Eve is sitting in a chair beside the bed holding on to Jeff's hand. Alex and Glen walk in the room. Eve looks up

Eve - What did the doctor say?

Alex - Well he went through a lot of techno mumbo jumbo about cat scans and such but I think the bottom line is that there's no serious damage. It's just a mild concussion. He's lucky considering he was thrown head first into a tree.

Glen - The doctors want to keep him here a few days for observation

Eve nods and looks to Alex who is looking around the room. She has an uncomfortable look on her face

Eve - Hey Glen, um, could you get me a cup of coffee I need some waking up.

Glen - (catches where Eve is looking and sees the state Alex is in and he nods getting the drift) Sure. I'll be right back

Alex watches Glen leave.

Eve - Are you okay?

Alex – (shrugs) It's just hospitals. We spent a lot of time here while Craig's granmother was sick and of course there was last year with the whole being shot in the stomach thing. Good things don't happen here.

Eve nods sadly and looks at Jeff. Eve closes her eyes. She whispers a few words and leans back in the chair. There is silence.

Eve – You were right

Alex – Excuse me?

Eve – I’m sorry I got annoyed with you last night. You were right. I’m jealous. Not of you but that whole idea of having a heroes and dreams or playing cops and robbers . . .

Alex – I never played cops and robbers.

Eve – (looks at Alex exasperated) You know what I mean. . . it’s just, I wish I had those things. Maybe if I did I wouldn’t have turned into Livia. Also, I feel like I’ve missed out on an important part of life in general. I’ve felt behind before just missing out on nearly 2000 years of history but I always found something to connect with people on but this childhood thing . . . I missed something vital.

Alex – I’ve learned that you’re never too old to learn. You’ve got a second chance in this century to do what you couldn’t is the past. Take it, read a comic, watch a cartoon, have a little fun! You can know what it’s like to be a regular kid

Eve – Jeff was just starting to do that. He almost lost his chance.

Alex – But he’ll be fine. At the moment I'm more worried about that mutated ape running around the city attacking people.

Eve - I don't think it's a demon but one thing's for sure, there’s not much that slows it down.

Alex - Demon or not, it has a knack for making trouble and hurting innocent people in the process. (growls in frustration). Some heroes we are. We can't even stop some overgrown monkey from hurting people.

Eve - We’ve got to think about this. It's an animal. It was probably scared and thought it was being attacked. Its survival instinct would tell it to defend its self. We have no proof that it meant harm

Alex – So if it’s surviving on instinct, do you think it go to a place where it would feel safe, like a habitat or some sort of . . .

Eve – Maybe that’s what it was doing in that wooded area. When those people came by he was just reacting to protect his home.

Glen walks in just then with a coffee in one hand and a few comic books stuck under his arm. Eve stands up and smiles. She takes the coffee from Glen and mouths a thank you then walks over to Alex and hands it to her.

Alex – I wonder if we can track that thing down. Maybe contain it before it does anymore harm.

Eve – I want to get back and work on that . . . (looks to Glen then back to Alex) thing we were just talking about, try to narrow some places down where he’ll be tonight but I really don’t want to leave Jeff alone right now.

Glen - If you're worried about Jeff I’ll stay here for a few hours. I've got some time and some comic books to keep me busy.

Eve - Are you sure?

Glen - Yeah go on!

Eve - Thanks Glen

Glen - Hey! How did you guys come across that couple being attacked by that loose primate anyway?

Alex - Uh well you see . . .

Eve - It sort of . . . . kind . . . uh

Glen - Wrong place, wrong time?

Alex and Eve look at each other and then look back to Glen

Alex - Yeah, something like that

Alex and Eve walk out of the room and Glen sits down beside Jeff's bed and props his feet up on the edge of the bed.

Glen - Dude, what are you up to at night? And you bad mouth me for reading comic books. Trust me it's a lot safer.

Glen shakes his head and begins to read his comic book.

Fade to a few hours later. The clock on the wall says ten o'clock. We pan down the Jeff's bed. He's still unconscious. Glen has left the room. Pan in on Jeff’s face. Jeff groans a little and stirs. Jeff sits up in the bed he squints his eyes shut from the sunlight then puts his hand to his head.

Jeff - My head! What happened? (looks around the room not realizing what’s going on) I got to get out of here (gets out of bed and looks around) Where are my clothes? (looks at his hand) My ring!?! Where's my ring?!?

Jeff starts over turning the bed and throwing chairs out of the way in frantic search. Glen comes in with the doctor behind him

Glen - Jeff!? What are you doing? Calm down!

Doctor - Mr. Morrison please! Mr. Morrison can I take a look at you for a minute?

Jeff - Where'd you put my ring?

Doctor - You're what?

Jeff - I got to get out of here

Doctor - We can't let you leave Mr. Morrison

Jeff grabs the doctor by the collar and picks him a few feet off the ground

Jeff - I consider myself a controlled person but you are testing my patience! I suggest that you let me leave

The doctor nods and Jeff puts him down. Jeff looks around and sees some clothes lying on a chair he takes them and pulls on the pair of pants before walking out

Glen - Doc? What exactly is up with him?

Doctor - Because he refused to let me examine him I'm not exactly sure but he wasn't responding to his name. Temporary amnesia is often a side effect from a concussion and in his confused state he is unpredictable and dangerous. I suggest you alert the authorities and close friends to be on watch for him

Glen nods and gets out his cell phone

Cut to Eve's apartment. Eve walks in to the living room from her bedroom. She's now wearing a change of clothes a red tank top and blank pants. Her hair is wet as she twists it back into a bun and sticks a chop stick through it. She looks at Alex sleeping on the couch and smiles. Eve grabs a blanket from a nearby chair and settles it over Alex. The phone rings and Alex is startled awake

Alex - Wha?

Eve - Settle down! I'll get it

Eve walks over to the kitchenette and picks up the phone.

Eve - Hello. Oh hi Glen! . . . What? He WHAT!? Temporary Amnesia . . . What's that supposed to mean? Oh no! Okay I'll find him!

Alex - What's going on? What?

Eve - (grabs her jacket) Jeff woke up and stormed out of the hospital with no idea of who he is (runs out of her apartment)

Alex – Oh great! (runs out after Eve)

Cut to along side the streets of New York. Jeff walks down the street. He's completely out of the hospital gown now and has on a shirt jeans and the brown leather jacket he was wearing the night before. He's looking around the streets of the city not recognizing anything

Jeff - I don't think I'm in Metropolis anymore. What is going on?

Jeff continues to walk along the streets looking at the people as they pass him by.

Jeff - These people don't recognize me!

Jeff stops in front of a store window and notices his reflection.

Jeff - Maybe it's the clothes (reaches out to touch the window as if to touch his reflection and sees the back of his hand) And it doesn't help that I don't have my ring! I need to find a way to contact the Justice League.

A couple people look at Jeff strangely as they pass him

Jeff - What?

The people back away scared and continue walking. Jeff turns back to the window. He notices he has stopped in front of an electronics store. Televisions are in the window display. They are all showing the news.

Reporter voice - (showing footage of the ape like creature) It has not escaped from any zoo and is unlike any animal that has been encountered before. All residences of New York are recommended to take extreme caution! Anyone that encounters this beast should not provoke . . .

A loud roar and screaming of people tears Jeff's attention away from the report. He turns around to find the ape monster jumping across the street. Jumping on cars and smashing them and breaking street lamps as it makes its way across the street into a park. Jeff tears off after it!

Cut to the park. Alex and Eve are walking at a fast pace.

Eve - Once we get the hospital and get some answers from the doctor we can retrace Jeff's steps. From there we'll have to split up. That way we'll cover more ground.

Alex - Eve this isn't exactly Rome okay. Not all roads lead in to . . . or is it out of . . . Oh whatever! The point is New York is huge with millions of people. Jeff could be anywhere. It'll be like looking for a needle in a haystack

Eve - We're not looking for a needle we're looking for Jeff. (Eve stops short and her eyes widen)

Alex - That was a simile Eve, a simile is a . . . (comes up beside Eve and stops short as well)

Pan around and see the huge ape like creature bounding toward them and it doesn't look like it's going to stop

Eve - Oh no!

Alex - Big Foot's back!

COMMERCIAL

The ape like beast continues to bound toward Alex and Eve and shows no signs of slowing down. Just as it's about to reach them a figure runs up behind it. It's Jeff. It runs along side the creature then jumps up beside a large tree trunk and pushes him self off the trunk and propels himself right into the beast's side knocking it off balance.

Alex – What the . . .?

The beast begins to attack Jeff. Jeff dodges the swings given by the creature. He somersaults forward narrowly missing another swing and kicks the beast in the stomach. He then somersaults backward in the process kicking the beast in the face with a force that caused it to stumble backward. Jeff then jumps up high over the beast and does a leap frog move where he pushes on the back of the creatures head and pushes him forward into the ground.

Alex - I didn't know he could do that.

Jeff still sees Alex and Eve standing there looking confused

Jeff - What are you waiting for? Find me something to tie it up with!

It's too late however because the beast gets up and knocks Jeff away and jumps up and grabs onto a tree branch and swings himself from one branch to another fleeing the scene.

Alex and Eve run over to Jeff's side as he gets up and brushes himself off.

Eve - Are you alright?

Jeff - I'm fine. Now the authorities are going to have even a harder time of trying to get that thing under control. You should have just left (pushes past them)

Alex - Excuse me! Rude!

Eve - You have no idea who we are, do you?

Jeff - (keeps walking) Should I?

Eve and Alex run to catch up with him. Eve runs in front of him to face him. She stops and slips her hand into his jacket pocket

Jeff - Hey! What are you . . . (sees Eve pull out a wallet) If you're looking for ID forget it. These aren't even my clothes.

Eve pulls out a drivers license and shows it to Jeff

Eve - Look familiar?

Jeff takes the drivers license and looks at it

Jeff - Well it certainly looks like me but I'm not Jeff Morrison. (hands to license back to Eve)

Eve - Yes you are. You've just forgotten

Jeff - I know who I am!

Alex - Oh really?

Jeff - My name is John Steward. US Marine Core. I’m now a member of the . . .

Eve - Member of the what?

Jeff - Justice League

Alex - Hold on! Justice League? As in Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman?

Jeff - Well at least someone knows what's going on

Alex - And you said you're John Steward. That means you think . . . No way!

Eve - What?

Alex - Jeff thinks he's the Green Lantern

Jeff - I told you my name is not Jeff it's . . .

Eve - Look at us! I'm Eve, this is Alex. Doesn't any of this seem familiar to you?

Jeff – No. Now get out my way. I have to find my ring

Eve - Ring?

Alex - Green Lantern has a ring

Jeff - And once I get that I can go after that monster.

Eve - Jeff . . . Sorry, John. That beast is larger then any normal person can handle. We know, we've dealt with it before

Jeff - Why would you deal with something like that?

Alex - We’re sort of . . . heroes.

Jeff – Heroes? You two

Alex – (humouring him) Yeah! We’re lesser known but we’re still trying to do our part.

Jeff – I could use some help. Perhaps when this is all over I can see about your initiation into the Justice League, if we can stop this beast

Alex – Uhhhh. Sure, why not. (motions to Eve to continue)

Eve – Look, we've dealt with this creature before and not much can hold it down. Even tranquilizers had no effect and he's been given a few double doses.

Jeff - Why do I feel like I already know that?

Eve - That's because you've dealt with this monster before too.

Jeff - (shakes his head) Everything is just so hazy

Eve – Maybe you should go back to the hospital.

Jeff - No! Look, I may not have clear idea on who I am right now but I do know one thing. There is a monster on the loose. It's violent and it's dangerous to anyone who comes in contact with it. It needs to be stopped. With or without powers, someone has to do it before more innocents get hurt.

Eve – Fine, we’ll do this first but after that, will you go to the hospital, just so we can check that everything is okay . . . .you know . . .before you go back to the . . .(looks to Alex who nods encouraging Eve to humour him) Justice League

Jeff - There's just one thing I need first

Cut to outside a costume store. Alex and Eve are on either side of the door waiting. Jeff comes out just then decked out in full Green Lantern costume.

Jeff - Right! Let's go

Jeff walks on ahead and Alex and Eve just look on with their mouths hanging open.

Alex - Oh great! As if we don't attract enough attention already

Eve - You have to admit though. He looks great in spandex!

Alex - Nope! That's weird! You made it weird!

Alex gives Eve a sour look before she follows Jeff. Eve just smiles before following also.

Cut back to the park. Jeff Alex and Eve are back in the spot where the beast attacked the second time. Jeff makes his way over to the trees and looks up at the branches

Alex - Why are we back here? Big foot left a while ago

Jeff - We can track it down. That creature left a trail

Alex - How can you tell?

Eve - (already looking up) Um Alex, look up

Alex looks up and sees a lot of broken and bent branches leaving a clear trail.

Alex - Oh.

Jeff looks ahead and forges his way onward

Jeff - Let's go

Cut to deeper in the wooded area. Eve Jeff and Alex make their way through the shrubbery soundlessly. They come to a clearing. They hide behind the bushes. They see the huge ape creature huddled in the clearing. It sounds like its whimpering.

Eve - (whispers) I think it's hurt

Eve gets up and moves toward the creature which is cradling its hand

Alex - (whispers harshly) Eve! Eve!

Jeff - (holds out his arm to hold Alex back) Hold on. She might have the right idea

Eve walks slowly toward the creature. The beast turns around sharply which stops Eve in her tracks. It doesn't make a move to attack but it does growl. Eve just holds up her hands to calm it down and continues to slowly make her way toward the creature.

Eve - Hey. Just calm down. Easy. That's right. I'm here to help you. I just want to help.

The beast still growls at Eve but she still walks toward the creature. She holds her palms out to the creature and kneels before him. He ceases to growl and whimpers

Eve - Will you let me see?

The beast turns around and shows Eve its hand. She takes the hand gently in her palm and looks at it. There is a huge branch stuck through the middle of the hand.

Eve - This will hurt a little.

Eve breaks off an end of the branch and pulls the rest of it out. The beast howls in pain for a moment but it subsides as Eve looks over the end gently. She then strokes its head in a soothing manner.

Eve - You're going to be just fine.

Eve looks to Jeff and Alex in the bushes and nods an okay. As they begin to emerge Eve looks back to the beast. It growls again and punches Eve sending her flying into another patch of bushes.

Alex - Eve! Oh that is it Monkey man! Now it's on!

Alex jumps up and flips over to the beast.

Jeff - No! Wait!

Alex spins around and kicks to beast in the head!

Eve - (gets up) Alex wait! You have to be patient!

Alex doesn't listen. She spins around again to hit the creature but it catches her arm

Alex - Oh not good!

The beast picks Alex up over it head and throws her far.

Eve - ALEX!!!

Eve uses a rock as a leverage to push her up higher as she jumps. When she lands she back flips a few more feet as Alex is coming down. Eve jumps up slightly and catches Alex in her arms as the both tumble to the ground. Shaken but unhurt they both stand up.

Alex - My hero!

Eve - (jokingly) Shut up!

Cut back to Jeff face to face with the monster. Jeff jumps up on a branch and swings himself forward kicking the monster back. He jumps in front of the monster. The monster back hands Jeff. Jeff shakes his head as he goes to attack. He punches the monster in the stomach but the creature just brings its fists down upon Jeff’s head. He looks up to see the beast has run off. He runs after it.

Eve - Jeff . . . . Or whoever you are! Wait!

Alex - Eve just let him slaughter the thing

Eve - Didn't you see that I was getting through to it! We can't fight everything with out fists sometimes it has to be with our heart. If Jeff doesn't do that he might completely lose himself.

Eve runs after Jeff. Alex follows

Cut back to Jeff. He stumbles into a clearing and finds he is in a residential area. He begins to remember something

*flash*

Jeff - I know you don't want me involved in this . . . demon hunting you do, but I am involved and for a reason. I can help.

*end flash*

Jeff shakes his head again and looks around for the beast he sees in charging toward a group of children.

Jeff starts remembering things and there is a clarity shown in his eyes. Flashes of images from the past runs before his eyes. He sees his mother, his sister, he sees Craig in rehab, he sees friends helping him through, he sees Eve and Alex and James. He sees the reward in being a police officer and the good he was doing being a demon hunter. He remembers!

Jeff sees the beast still heading for the children. He runs down the street as fast as he can. He jumps up and flips over the demon as he lands on the ground he looks surprised at him.

Jeff - I'm probably going to feel that tomorrow.

He sees the beast bounding toward him. Jeff looks behind and sees the children cowering. He picks two of them up and ushers a few out of the way. It's too late though. The beast is about to tear at a few children but Jeff just jumps over them and uses himself to shield the children and the beast tears at his back.

Eve - (burst out from tress in to the street) NOOOO!!

Eve runs over and put herself in front of Jeff. The beast is about to tear at her when it stops and really looks at her.

Eve – That’s right! Remember me? I cared for you back there. Don’t be angry, don’t be scared.

Alex runs out of the trees and over to Jeff and the kids. She ushers the kids away. Jeff stands up as the beast calms down. Just as it calms down a net is thrown over it. Several men in white suits come up and try to hold the beast down as it starts acting up again

Eve - Don't hurt it!

Man - It's okay. We're animal control. We've got it covered

Another man stunned the beast so much that is falls down. Smoke rises from it. Eve gasps

Eve - Wait! No one called animal control

Man - Lady, do you think you are the only chick in this town? Loads of people called animal control.

A white van comes up and the men throw the ape like creature inside and drive off.

Alex – (comes up to Eve who bows her head) It could have been worse Eve. That beast could have hurt you and Jeff and those kids.

Eve – It wasn’t a monster Alex. It was just a scared animal looking to survive. I wish we could have helped it.

Jeff – You did a little. I guess the compassion you showed the beast turned out to better method of fighting it then any super power could have. Thanks Eve.

Eve looks to Jeff

Eve - Jeff? Do you remember?

Jeff - Yeah. Things are a little hazy and I feel kind of naked but I remember all of it and I feel like an idiot.

Alex looks over to the kids with their parents who are coming up to the trio.

Alex - Those kids and their parents don't think so.

Little girl - You saved us!

Mother - You risked your life to save our children. Thank you

Boy - You're a hero!

Eve - (smiles) A real life hero

Jeff - Well I had some help from another hero and I ain't talking about the Green Lantern (looks at Eve)

Eve - Who me? Naw, I'm just a messenger.

COMMERCIAL

Cut to the next morning in Eve's apartment. Eve is looking out over the city from her window. She has a cup of coffee in her hands as she looks down to her coffee table at an X men comic. Eve picks up the comic book and flips threw it. She lands on a picture of Wolverine in yellow spandex. She grimaces a little and smiles and laughs at herself. She puts the comic book back down and looks out the window at the street below.

Eve - (voice over commentary) Every one needs a hero. Whether it's from a comic book, a cartoon or even a police officer or a mother, these people have traits that help us see that there is good in the world and they inspire us to adopt that kind of spirit in our own lives. Not all heroes appear in funny costumes and kick ass to save the day.

Fade to downstairs in the centre. Eve and Jeff are at a table reading comic books.

Eve – You know, these are pretty cool. I still think real heroes are better though!

Alex - (sighs) Look Eve, there are not a lot of people who have real life heroes. That's mostly because when someone builds up a normal person they often find they are let down when they realize that they are just that, normal, flawed. . .

Eve – Human . . . Alex, sometimes those are the best kind. They choose everyday to be better then they are, to do good in this world. They may be flawed, they may do something bad but they always choose good in the end. Evil is easy but goodness is difficult. If you’re strong enough to choose the good, then you’re a real hero.

Alex – And sometimes, it’s those mythical figures that inspire us to choose good instead of evil.

Eve – I get your drift!

Alex – But we got lucky.

Jeff - How do you figure?

Alex - Look at Eve. She never had a hero but she found her mother, more role models then she could shake a stick at, a higher cause, and a prophet that has chosen her to be his messenger. I only had She Ra but I don’t need a fancy sword and a unicorn. I’ve got god like powers. And you Jeff, who’s never picked up a comic book before found me and Eve and now you’re out demon hunting, protecting the world against the worst evil! We’re heroes!

Jeff – We see the world as a beautiful place and we know good things can happen because we've seen it for ourselves.

Eve – That kind of thinking is what’s going to bring Craig back.

Jeff - I still want a cool ring though.

Eve - (laughs) Not all heroes have super powers

Alex - Speak for yourself!

Eve and Jeff laugh.

Eve – And you have more power than you think Jeff.

Jeff - Well the scars on my back are healing nicely but I'm still really sore. Probably from all those fancy moves I was doing. I didn't know I had it in me.

Alex - Neither did I (Jeff shoots Alex a bit of a glare) But I was impressed.

Jeff - Feels good though to be in regular clothes. Spandex is not a one of my favorite fashions

Alex - Just be glad you didn't think you were Wonder Woman. Then you'd be wearing patriotic underwear.

Just then a dark skinned man walks in. He is wearing regular clothes but what is striking about him is that he has bright green eyes.

Man - Excuse me?

Alex - Yeah?

Man - I'm looking for a Jeff Morrison. He was claiming he was the Green Lantern.

Jeff - Uh yeah. That was me. I sort of hit my head and I thought I was super hero.

Man - Sort of?

Jeff - I'm better now. I promise

Man - Oh.

Eve - Was there something wrong?

Man brings his hand up to his head to scratch it and he displays a peculiar green ring on his finger

Man - No, nothing is wrong. I guess everything is okay now. Sorry to disturb you

The man leaves again without another word.

Eve - Did you see his eyes?

Jeff - That brother had the greenest eyes I've ever seen on a black man

Alex - Forget that! Did you notice his ring?

Jeff - Yeah. Did you notice the . . .

Eve- Lantern insignia

Alex Jeff and Eve all look at each other and then think for a moment

Alex, Jeff & Eve - (in unison) Naw!

Cut to a dark lair. There is a man standing in a shadow. The hall behind him is lit with torches

Two men in white suits walk in be hind him dragging behind them something large.

Man - We brought him back boss. We stunned him too much though! We kind of killed him

Voice in the shadows - No matter. It was only an experiment. Dispose of it.

Man - Yes sir

The two men turn it around and continue to drag it out. We see it's hand flop out. It's an ape hand with a wound in the middle of it. We pan back to the man in the shadows

*flashback*

There is a group of people sitting in a circle in what looks like a group re hab session. Jeff and Craig are sitting next to each other.

Group Counselor - For next week I want you to all think about what you want to do with you lives. Ask yourselves “What do you want?”

Everyone from the group leaves except for Craig and Jeff. Craig looks over to Jeff.

Craig - What do you want to do with your life Jeff?

Jeff - (thinks for a moment and smiles a little to himself) I want to make a difference in people's lives. I want to be a hero. What about you?

Craig gets up and walks over to a window. He looks out side then takes a picture of him and Alex out of his pocket. He smiles when he looks at it

Craig - I just want to go home and be with the people I love

We pan in close on Craig's face and close in on his eye.

*end flashback*

Pan out to see half his face darkened by shadow. We are back in the present. We pan out more to see the lair. The man who was in the shadow is Thuvan in Craig's body

A fire lights up in front of him as Thuvan holds up a picture. It's a picture of Eve standing between Craig and Alex

Thuvan - Say good bye to those you love Craig! But don't worry too much. I shall put one of them to good use.

Thuvan tears the part of Craig and Eve off and throws it into the fire. He holds the part of Alex up and looks at it. Thuvan smiles wickedly. He begins to laugh
