Open with the sun rising over a grassy plain, pan along the architecture and villas of Ancient Rome. Fade to a grassy wood where a much older, bearded Virgil is walking along side an old Augustus. They stop by a steam and sit down on some rocks. Augustus takes a scroll from his robes and passes it back to Virgil

Augustus - Virgil, these are some of the finest verses I've read in a long time. You may some day rival Homer. You should send this to the palace and have it published as a chronicle of Rome

Virgil - (shakes his head) It's not done. It's not nearly good enough

Augustus - Nonsense. Aenies is the exemplary Roman and the Aenied is a great tribute to the Empire. This can inspire people to achieve the greatness that Rome has always aspired to.

Virgil - No. It's very nice of you to say, really, but I'm not finished. I don't think I'll ever be finished. You've been very supportive, encouraging me and funding my work but it's not good enough. I'd rather have it burned.

Augustus - You are your own worst critic.

Virgil - (shakes his head and sighs) I wonder if Homer ever felt this way.

Augustus holds up the scroll to read. The scene fades out to a pan over the sea fade to a pan along the Manhattan skyline midday as Augustus's voice continues on.

Augustus - (voice) Tell me the reason Muse: what was the wound
to her divinity, so hurting her
that she, the queen of the gods, compelled a man
remarkable for goodness to endure
so many crises, meet so many trials?
Can such resentment hold the minds of gods

Augustus voice fades out as we fade to the Centre and fade to inside Eve and James apartment. Eve is knocking on James's door.

Eve - James?

James - (voice from inside his bedroom) GO AWAY

Eve - James, please come out and talk to me

James - (voice from inside his bedroom) GET LOST!!

Eve looking a little hurt walks away from the door as we fade inside his bedroom. James is sitting in the middle of his bed and there are papers all around, outlining the walls, all over the floor and all over his bed.

James is in the middle of his room sitting in a lotus position in silence as he tries to concentrate. He is silent for a minute but then his face sinks into a scowl. He gets up suddenly very angry and begins to pace. He grabs a pen and being to write on some of the paper outlining the walls but then changes his mind and scratches it out. He gets very angry and throws one of the unlit candles at the wall. It breaks into pieces all over the floor.

James - This sucks . . . all of this sucks! Damn! DAMN!! (picks up some paper and tears it apart) What the hell is wrong? I can't focus. I can't . . . (realizes something) I can't see into the future. I can't have visions anymore!

Open with a pan around a room walled with stone and lit with torches. Pan around to where Gawain the Green man is lounging on a stone throne. He is contemplating something. We pan out to see 3 demon monks at his side.

Demon Monk 1 - You are failing at your task. Our Lord Lucifer is becoming displeased. Why have you called upon us? We are not at your disposal to offer Lucifer more excuses for your failure

Gawain - The Messenger is becoming too intuitive. I need more resources to stop her

Demon Monk 3 - The goal is not to stop her only slow her down long enough for his Dark Messenger to complete her mission. She will destroy the Messenger if we give her the time.

Gawain - Her powers and increasing. She may destroy us before the Dark Messenger destroys her. She has weaknesses. We need to exploit them. . . (looks to the monks who are hesitant) If only to distract her from the Dark Messenger.

Demon Monk 2 - Her powers are connected to her emotions and her emotions are influenced by her friends.

Gawain - Affect one of her friends to affect the Messenger?

Demon Monk 2 - If her focus if disrupted she will lose control. The loss of control may even make her a danger to others.

Gawain - Hmmmm. What is the visionary's name?

Demon Monk 3 - James. The reincarnation of the poet Virgil.

Gawain - And Eve's on again off again lover. Yes. . . . I know just how to affect Eve. (laughs maliciously)

Fade to Eve and Natalie in Eve's apartment.

Eve - It's been going on for weeks. He's been distant but now he's shut himself away completely.

Natalie - (nods) I know he's still upset about Carrie but there's something else that's bugging him. I want to talk to him but I don't want to pry by reading him. He's been a little hot tempered lately.

Eve - If I didn't know any better I'd think he and Craig switched bodies.

Natalie - Have you even talked to Craig about what happened between you two?

Eve - (sighs) No. I've been avoiding him. Things are . . .awkward. I just don't know what to say to him. I don't think I can be what he wants.

Natalie - Do you think maybe James is probably picking up on that.

Eve - That had nothing to do with James

Natalie - Doesn't it? James still has feelings for you but now you're confused about your feelings for Craig. I don't blame you for wanting time to figure things out but failing to communicate anything is going to make things worse.

Eve - I've been trying to talk to James. He spends all his time held up in his room. You're his mentor, can you at least get him to come out of his room?

Natalie - JAMES! GET YOUR NASTY BUTT OUT HERE!!

Eve looks at Natalie skeptically and quirks an eyebrow as they get no answer from James.

Natalie - (shrugs) Used to work on Jeff. He's still in there but (sensing something) it's weird. He's there but. . .(can't find the words to explain it). . . . Ah hell just kick in the door.

Natalie steps aside and Eve spins around and kicks in the James bedroom door. Both girls look in. James is not there but all his work is.

Natalie - Whoa!

Eve steps in with Natalie behind her. Eve nearly slips. Eve looks down sees why as the entire floor is covered in paper. They look at the walls wallpapered with his work. Eve notices the broken candle on the floor

Eve - You said he was in here!

Natalie - (takes a piece of paper off the wall and looks it over) I thought he was. Part of him still is. Writers, artists, they all leave an imprint of themselves in their work.

Eve- (looks at the work) I knew he was writing. I didn't realize how much it consumed his life!

Natalie - It wasn't supposed to be consuming. James's visions were off. He's felt that way ever since the Golden Boys arranged for his powers to be stripped. Like you his powers are tied to his emotions and he needed an outlet in order for him to focus. I suggested doing what his predecessor did and write. (looks at one of the pieces more carefully and winces as she hands the writing to Eve).

Eve - (reads out loud) 'As I have betrayed, I am betrayed and alone/ My heart grows heavy and as cold as stone./ The sight that I had witnessed before me/ Tore at my at my heart bloody and gory.' . . . . (closes her eyes and sighs) He saw me and Craig kiss. . .

Natalie - And jumped to the wrong conclusion (walks over to the bed and looks at some of the work) None of the verses are complete. (thinks about it for a minute and realizes) He's hit writers block. Without an outlet he's erratic

Eve - (picks up a torn piece of paper) Its clear he's upset. But where is he?

Natalie - Maybe he's out taking a long walk, trying clear his mind, get back to nature. Let him cool off. He's got to come back sometime. When he does, talk to him.

Eve - (sighs)He deserves an explanation. I just hope that he doesn't do anything foolish given the state he's in.

Fade from Eve to James.

James stands in a dark chamber. His back is turned to the person he's talking to.

James - I've lost focus. I can't center myself. My erratic emotions are blocking my power of vision. I need help.

James turns to the person he's speaking to. It's Priestess Edith.

James - That's why I came to you.

Edith - I fail to see how I can help.

James - I haven't been the same since my powers were stripped. I have been writing to focus myself but I can no longer get my emotions out on paper. The words aren't there anymore. Virgil was a poet, a great poet. I need his help. I know his spirit resides in me, can you draw him out?

Edith - That is beyond our power. We could have helped you connect with Virgil and draw from his creativity if you had have stayed with us.

James - I would have also been the father of a lot of little me's. That's illegal in some places you know.

Edith - The fact remains. I can't help you and I see no reason why I should. My temple is dwindling. All that I have built my life upon is crumbling because you rejected us and your calling.

James - (panicked)What do you want? Name it and I'll give it to you! I just . . . these emotions, they're . . . they're.

Edith - (seeing it within him) Filling you up, tearing you apart. (reaches up to stroke his face) You're suffering! (sighs and looks up at his with tears in her eyes) For all my anger I cannot turn away from you. I will help you.

Cut to a marble circular chamber. There are nine mirrors out lining the perimeter of the chamber and are large set of marble doors at the head of the chamber. The doors make a loud sound as they are slowly pushed open. Edith enters with James behind her. Edith stands in the centre of the room while James walks the perimeter looking at the large mirrors and the marble Greek column frames that surround each. He stands in front of one of the mirrors. What is strange is he can't see his reflection.

James - (murmurs) These are weird mirrors

Edith - (overhears him and speaks out. Her voice echoing in the distance) They are not mirrors. They are doorways

James - To what?

Edith - Other realms

James - What?

Edith - The universe is composed of many layers. There is the physical realm, and then there are higher plains, like the psychic realm, or the spiritual realm. There are also lower plains, Tarterous for example and Hell. There are gateways to many of the realms. Covens, temples and spiritual orders have been ordained by higher powers to protect the chambers that hold mystical gateways.

James - You mean there are more chambers like these?

Edith - All over the world. I assume you've heard of the nine muses of the Olympians. They bring the gift of creativity to the corporeal world. But they came from the Muse realm. You must enter the realm and evoke the power of a muse, the one who helped Virgil.

James - (nods) And get all this stuff out of my head. So let's do this!! (takes off his jacket looking ready to jump through the portal) Let's go! Let's work this funky mojo!

Edith - (quickly steps in front of his and pushes him away) I am willing to help as you are the Visionary but I must ask something in return

James - (desperate now) Anything! Please just . . . I can't take this anymore. I'll give anything.

Edith - Your blood. Just a vial. Let me rebuild my order around your principles, the principles we've always cherished. We are not evil, we just need something to believe in. We are not as strong as you or your friends

James - Fine. When do we begin?

Cut to a bell ringing. We pan out and see a young woman in priestess robes ringing the striking the bell. We pan father out and see her walking around the perimeter around the chamber. Other women are standing in from of the doorways, palms spread and open, they are meditating. The bell echoes through out the chamber. James stands in the middle of the chamber in a muscle shirt and jeans, his arms bare. Two young brunette women hold daggers in their hands and stand at either side. Edith stands in front of James as she holds two wooden bowls to the girls.

Edith - This will hurt a little bit.

The two girls jab the daggers into James's forearms. He growls and grits his teeth. The girls twist the daggers a little and take them out. The blood flows down his arms and into the bowls. Edith waves the girls away and two other young women clean and bandage his wounds. They slip a white, gold trimmed robe around him. James looks around at the girl with the bell. She walks past each gateway and rings the bell once. As the bell rings it echoes through the chamber and the mirror like gateways tremble, ripple and shake. James looks to Edith who smiles.

Edith - It is time.

Edith backs away and opens her arms wide, palms face up. Other girls follow her lead and go to their appointed places in the chamber. The bell continues to ring. As each ring sounds off, one by one each of the priestesses' eyes begin to glow. On the last ring the chamber instantly fills with a dense white mist.

Cut to Eve at the centre. She's doing some paper work. She's tapping the pen on the counter and not concentrating on her task. Natalie walks up to her.

Natalie - You ever think your confusion about your emotions with James and Craig are rooted in your confusion about your feelings for Virgil

Eve- What?

Natalie - You were thinking about him just now.

Eve- James is not Virgil and nor is Craig

Natalie - But you wanted more from Virgil and you still think about what could have been.

Eve - (looks out over the centre as Natalie walks off) Virgil . . . Virgil . . . I will always wonder when he walked away that day, why didn't he look back.

Eve suddenly gets a glazed look in her eye and becomes spaced out. She faints.

*Flash*

James squints his eyes in order to see through the mist. James can see the outline of the gateway. White wispy spirits pass in and out adding to the density of the mist. Suddenly a figure whips by him

Voice - What do you dream of?

James turns around to face the voice but finds nothing. The figure passes behind again.

Voice - What do you wish for?

James whips around again to face the voice but finds nothing and no one. Again the figure passes but in a different spot

Voice - What do you desire?

James looks all around and every which way to see where the figure is coming from. He stops and looks at one point in the mist where a figure emerges

Voice - If there is nothing, not a dream, not a wish, not even a desire, then there is nothing to inspire.

From the mist emerges a beautiful woman with long rich curly brown hair wearing a long flowing white dress. James swallows hard at the woman floats over to stand in front of him.

Myrhinne - I am Myrhinne

James - Are you the Muse who inspired Virgil?

Myrhinne - I am

James - Help me! I feel like I'm going to burst. I can't write. Everything is pent up inside me and I can't focus. Without focus I can't channel my visions and if my power is lost, I'm lost and useless.

Myrhinne - (touches his forehead) Such emotion, such distress.

James - Yes! Writing was the only way I could sort everything out but now . . . You're the Muse! Inspire me! Inspire me they way Virgil was inspired. I am Virgil the poet's re incarnation, can't you tap into that?

Myrhinne - I do sense him within you.

James - Bring that out in me! Virgil must have felt uninspired more than once, but he created a masterpiece. I need what he had. I want what he was!

Myrhinne - You want Virgil?

James - Yes!

Myrhinne - You want to feel his creativity, his life force, his very being coursing through your veins?

James - (really excited and desperate) YES!!!

Myrhinne - It is done!

*Flash*

Cut to Eve as a big flash of light bursts within her apartment. Eve wakes up with a start. She looks around her apartment in confusion. Natalie is there.

Natalie - You fainted. I turn my back for one second and the next thing I know you've collapsed on the floor.

Eve - I had a vision

Natalie - Seriously? It must have been powerful. What was it about?

Eve - (thinks back to her vision. She then gasps) James!

Eve gets off the couch and runs out of her apartment and Natalie follows.

COMMERCIAL

Cut to a softly lit chamber. The door bursts off its hinges and there, surrounded by a cloud of dust, stand Eve and Natalie.

Natalie - Nice entrance!

Eve marches into the chamber but her path is blocked by Edith. She stares Eve down with anger!

Edith - How dare you defile this temple!

Eve - Where is he? Where is James? I know he's here. I saw it! He's been corrupted somehow.

Edith - He came to us for help. We helped.

Edith smiles a little and moves to the side and gestures grandly to a group of young women gushing and giggling around a very dazed James.

Eve - What have you done to him? (moves closer to James and the girls all scatter away) James?

James looks to Eve confused. He squints his eyes and a slow recognition comes over him as he stands up

James - Eve?

Natalie - That isn't James

Eve looks at him confused.

James - Are Gabrielle and Xena with you?

Eve - (astounded) Virgil!

Edith - (smiling proudly) Our visionary has returned to us!

Eve - Change him back!

Edith - The Muse granted his wish. There is nothing we can do.

Eve - But that isn't right!

Natalie suddenly get a shocked look on her face as she looks at Edith and steps in front of Eve

Natalie - Uh, Eve, right now we should get James . . . I mean Virgil away from here. These women can't do anything to help but they are thinking about helping themselves if you know what I mean.

Eve - (catches Natalie's hint) Oh!

Eve takes Virgil by the hand and leads him away practically pushing him out of the temple

Eve - Come on, you're not safe here!

Natalie walks out behind them but not before looking back at all the women

Natalie - (knowing what the girls are thinking) Damn! It's a den of sex crazed white girls! (shudders as she walks out) Nasty!

Cut to outside the temple on the street. Eve and Natalie emerge from the door and bound out into the street. Virgil squints as he get out in the sunlight but then stops dead in his tracks as he stares at the modern world. Eve stops when she realises he's not following her.

Eve - What are you doing? Come on!

Natalie - He freaking out!

Virgil - What is . . . (looks wildly around)

Eve - Oh no! James . . I mean Virgil! Just calm down.

Virgil - What is this place?

Virgil edges away from Eve and Natalie about ready to bolt

Eve - Virgil it's alright. You just need to come with me

Eve grabs hold of Virgil's arm and he begins screaming

Virgil - GET AWAY FROM ME!

Virgil begins struggling to get away. He makes a scene in front of all the passersbys. Eve panics and lashes out punching Virgil, knocking him out!

Natalie - Aren't you supposed to be a champion for non violence?

Eve - I panicked! Besides he was making a scene. We need to get him out of here.

Natalie - Well, what do we do with him now?

Eve - We'll call Jeff. We need a drive back to the centre anyway

Cut to Eve apartment in the centre. The door bangs open with Eve and Jeff carrying an unconscious Virgil.

Jeff - You mind telling me how this happened again?

Eve - James isn't James anymore he's Virgil

Jeff - Yeah that cleared everything right up

Jeff and Eve lay Virgil on the couch. He shifts a little indicating he's starting to wake up.

Jeff- Not to switch gears but have you seen Morgan? She hasn't come into in work, and she's not answering my calls. I'm worried about her

Eve - She's dealing with a lot right now but she'll come around.

Craig enters the apartment.

Craig - Hey what's going on? Natalie called and said I needed to get here(sees Virgil) Whoa! What happened to James?

Natalie enters

Natalie - You two need to talk!

Eve - But . . .

Natalie - No . . .no more avoiding this! Talk. I'll be here with Virgil and I'll tell you when he wakes up

Craig - Virgil? What?

Natalie - No! Talk!

Natalie pushes both Eve and Craig into Eve's room and shuts the door. Jeff looks at her confused.

Natalie - No one talks to each other in this group! That changes right now.

Cut to inside Eve's room. Eve sits down on the bed and puts her head in her hands. Craig is confused

Craig - What is going on?

Eve - Long story

Craig - You been avoiding me for a while now.

Eve - Yeah, well there's a lot of that going around right now

Craig - Is it because I kissed you?

Eve - (looks up at him) Yes.

Craig - (sighs) Besides breaking the spell I just . . . I don't expect anything from you. I just wanted you to know where I stand.

Eve - (quietly) I don't know where I stand

Craig - Oh. I guess that makes it a little more complicated

Eve - Craig, mere words can't explain how I feel about you. I do love you but I'm not in love with you. (starts speaking quickly as the words start to tumble out) And I still have feelings for James as well but he knows we kissed and he's upset and now he's gone and got himself turned into Virgil which brings up a whole other set of feelings I thought I was over! I'm so confused! I . . .

Craig - Eve! It's okay. First thing is setting things right with what ever happened to James out there. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to know where you stand

Eve - I don't want to lose you Craig but I don't think I want to be with you in the way that you want.

Craig - (sighs) I know I've been acting like a dick and I've given you good reason to think I'm going to leave at the first sign of unhappiness but I'm not. What ever you decide, I'm still going to be here for our mission . . . and for you.

Eve - Thank you . . . Craig I . . .

Natalie barges in Eve's room.

Natalie - Sorry to interrupt but Virgil's awake and he's freaking out again!

Cut to Virgil in the kitchenette. He's backed up against the far counter with a spatula in his hand holding it like a weapon and swiping it at Jeff every time Jeff tries to approach to calm him down. Eve and Craig enter.

Virgil - Get away from me!!!

Eve - Virgil! Calm down!

Virgil - Eve? (is about relax but then holds to spatula up again) How do I know you're the real Eve?

Eve - The last thing you said to me before we parted ways was you couldn't wait to get home to write about how Virgil the Mighty saved the Messenger of Eli with words not fists

Virgil - (to himself) I never did write that tale (looks to Eve)It is you! Oh gods Eve, where are we!?

Eve - (cautiously moves toward him) It's a little hard to explain. Come and sit down (sees Virgil tense up) It's okay, these people are my friends! We're going to help you . . . figure this out. Just give me the spatula okay.

Virgil looks down at the utensil and abruptly hands it to Eve. She puts it down on the counter and leads Virgil to the living room area. He stops suddenly and looks out over the city

Virgil - By all that is holy! Where are we?

Eve - Virgil, what's the last thing you remember?

Virgil - (thinks for a minute) I can't. I mean it's all hazy you know, like trying to remember a dream. I feel like . . . I feel like I've just woken up, like I've been asleep for a very long time.

Craig - So James is Virgil. How did this happen?

Eve - I don't know. James went to Edith and her love cult. They did something. They said a Muse granted his wish. I don't know what that means

Virgil looks out over the city again. He turns around and begins to looking around. He pokes and prods at things and begins pressing buttons on the entertainment center. He presses a button turning the music on loud!

Eve - Virgil, no! Stop!

Virgil looks in wonderment at all the things he's turned on as Eve turns things off

Virgil - Am I in the future?

Eve - (surprised)What?

Natalie - Writers are often very perceptive. They are more readily accepting of the impossible.

Eve sees James press the on button on the TV and turns the volume way up. Eve goes over quickly and shuts it off.

Eve - James! . . . Ugh! I mean Virgil! Stop pressing things! (looks to Craig) Was I this bad?

Craig - Worse!

Virgil - This is incredible. A world of such marvels! I need some parchment. I need to write this down.

Eve - Virgil, please stop! We need to find out what's going on. Like how you're here

Virgil - How are you here?

Eve - I'm the Messenger. I was brought here because I'm needed.

Virgil - Am I needed?

Eve - No, I don't think so. You see, you're in another man's body. Do you believe in re incarnation (Virgil nods) Well James is . . .you, the re incarnated you. For some reason your soul has reverted everything about James back to its original form which is you . . .Virgil.

Virgil - I don't understand

Eve - You're not supposed to be here Virgil. In this time this life belongs to James. I'm sorry

Natalie - You had a vision Eve. That's how you knew James was in trouble. Do you remember what you saw?

Eve - I saw James. He was surrounded by this white mist and there was a woman . . . she was talking about . . . inspiration

Craig - A Muse?

Natalie - James did have some writers block! It was affecting him and his powers, maybe he tried to find a muse to get inspiration back so he could write out his feelings. Edith did say the Muse granted his wish

Eve - How can you contact a muse?

Craig - Through the Numinous Chambers. Edith's order must be one of the covens that are keepers of the gateways!

Eve - You know of it?

Craig - Yes and no. It's a passing mention in any spell book! Nothing really is known about the gateways. If James got a Muse to turn him back into Virgil there is no way I can undo that.

Natalie - But a muse is meant to inspire not . . . manipulate a soul

Eve - Can we help him?

Craig - This can't be fixed unless we . . .

Eve - We what?

Craig - (sighs) Evoke the Muse to undo this but we'd have to go back to the chambers

Eve - (looks to Virgil) I'm sorry Virgil. I wish you could stay but we need to do this for James.

Virgil - I'm not supposed to be here. (looks out at the city as the sun begins to set) I don't belong here but this James does. I never meant to deny anyone his life. If you can set things right then you need to do this.

Craig - Something's wrong.

Jeff - No kidding

Craig - I mean, you said that a Muse granted his wish! Muses don't grant wishes. It's their sole purpose to provide inspiration! This sounds like a Genie

Jeff - What, like Aladdin?

Craig - No, Genies are demons. They used to be magical beings but because they created so much chaos with the wishes they grant, Lucifer recruited them, promising power and freedom. But like they've tricked so many, he tricked them. Genies are bound to serve the underworld forever. Genies trick and deceive through wishes, not Muses. So, who did James talk to at the numinous chambers?

Natalie - Good question. I think someone is trying to mess with Eve.

Eve - Feelings can be exploited. Bringing back Virgil and harming James is being used as a distraction.

Craig - We need to get into that realm and find out what happened.

Suddenly a beep sounds off. Everyone covers their ears.

Jeff - What is that?

Craig - (goes over to his brief case and pulls out his lap top) It's an alarm.

Virgil - What is he doing?

Eve - (is about to explain but doesn't know how) It's complicated!

Virgil - It's seems everything is in this world.

Eve - Tell me about it. (to Craig) What's the alarm for?

Craig - I've divided the city into sectors. There's a demon attack, near park avenue.

Jeff - Ritzy

Craig - And abnormal. Demons don't hit according to wealth.

Eve - (gets her chakram) We should go

Craig - What about Virgil?

Eve stops short and looks back at Virgil. She is clearly torn.

Eve - Craig, Jeff, can you handle this? I should go to Priestess Edith, try and rebuild a bridge I burned

Craig - No problem

Jeff and Craig grab a couple of swords and a cross bow and head out.

Eve - Natalie, please call Morgan. I want her to stay with you and Virgil in case the demons try to take advantage of my absence.

Natalie - Done

Virgil - What about me?

Eve - Pray.

Fade to the evening. Jeff and Craig are walking in the shadows trying to keep a low profile

Jeff -Do you really think someone has arranged to have James turn into Virgil to weaken our defenses?

Craig - Lucifer is leveling up his attacks on all fronts. The hybrids, that Gawain character, that figure who knows all Eve's moves. We've been able to keep them at bay right now and that's what bothering them. They need to knock Eve off her game to gain a little ground. Attacking her through her friends is the way to do it.

Craig hears something then and edges toward a corner of a building and crouches down. Jeff peers around the corner. They see a group of demons conversing but doing nothing.

Jeff - They're just standing there. What are they waiting for?

Suddenly the demons sharply turn toward Craig and Jeff. They begin to growl and bare their teeth.

Craig - I think they were waiting for us.

As the demons run to attack, Craig and Jeff run to meet them head on.

Cut back to Eve and Virgil. In Eve's room. She's changed into brown leather pants and a white tank top and she's reading up in Craig's spell book on muses.

Virgil - This is a new look for you. Very . . . demon hunter! You've changed

Eve - Some things have changed. Other things haven't. There's still war and hatred. It breeds demons. That's why I'm here, to hold back the evil, give people a chance to do good and show them how

Virgil - Is it working?

Eve - Some days I think so. Other days I wonder. People hurt and suffer and sometimes I think I'm the cause

Virgil - You mean with what happened to your friend James.

Eve - Yes

Virgil - Do you love him?

Eve doesn't answer

Virgil - Do you love me?

Eve looks at Virgil surprised

Virgil - Natalie mentioned how you're confused about your feelings

Eve - (is quiet for a moment trying to gather her thoughts) After I . . . changed I was beginning to understand forgiveness, compassion and love. You showed me all three in a world that hated me. You don't know how much that meant to me, still means to me.

Virgil - You didn't answer my question.

Eve - Natalie asked me earlier today how I felt about you and the truth is I don't know. Nothing was ever resolved between us Virgil.

Virgil - What do you mean?

Eve - I watched you walk away from me that day and I could have said something but I didn't and you didn't look back, not even once! Was there something between us Virgil? Did you feel anything?

Virgil - What would you have said to me that day?

Eve - That I didn't know if there could ever be anything between us but I want to try.

Virgil - And I would have said I feel a great affection for you Eve but you have a mission and I can't keep you from that. There is a life out there for you but I can't be in it. I may have feelings for you but there are bigger things out there than what I want.

Eve - I might have wanted a life with you

Virgil - But you weren't sure. The one thing you were sure about is your mission. And look at you now. You've found a life for yourself and you have a mission and I'm keeping you from it just as I would have back then.

Eve - No, you're my friend. I have to help you.

Virgil - Tell me what you're feeling right now! All of it, all your feelings.

Eve - James and I were together once. Then things got complicated and I let him go because he deserved an attentive girlfriend. But we've grown closer and I do love him, even beyond romance. But Craig and I have so much in common and he was with me from the start. He was like a guardian angel. And then he kissed me and I realized I liked it. And then there's you, the curiosity, the wonderment, the words. Everything is so Virgil! I feel warm when I think of you. It reminds me of Greece, of mother and of home. I don't want to let that go

Virgil - Who says you have to?

Eve - It would be better if I could just let all of that stuff go.

Virgil - No it wouldn't. Your love and passion makes you the perfect Messenger. It makes you strong enough to help other people. It's what will make your mission a success.

Eve - Sometimes the memories of what I did to people are too much to bear and it breaks my heart but there are other memories that have helped me through some hard times.

Virgil - That's the great thing about memories. You can store them away but they are always there and you can take them out when you need them most and remember. You can enjoy the good ones and learn from the bad ones but you don't have to let them run your life. It's the same with your feelings. Now, do you love me?

Eve - (smiles) There could have been nothing between us. We had separate lives to lead. But as for love I think now I just love my memories.

Virgil - (nods) That's one down. Now, James and Craig. Two good men, (points to Eve) one great love.

Eve - I love them both but . . .

Virgil - You don't want to choose. You're afraid of hurting either of them because if you do they might leave you and you're afraid of facing your mission alone.

Eve - Is that selfish?

Virgil - This mission isn't just yours Eve. It's the whole world's mission but there are very few who choose to take the call. Your friends have to decide if this mission is as important to them as it is to you. If their love and passion is as strong as yours then your romantic love for each other shouldn't matter. It's about love for humanity. Let James and Craig know you love them but you still need time to decide who you want to be with if anyone. And you deserve that time as much as anyone else.

Eve - (smiles) It's a good thing you did came along when you did.

Natalie - (walks in) But he can't stay for ever.

Eve - Sensed we were done?

Natalie - Actually I've been doing a little scouring on the psychic plains. James' psyche is being stripped away as are all his other lives in order to sustain Virgil's existence. If he stays like this much longer James' psyche with be irreversibly damaged. We might not be able to get him back

Eve - I have to go back to Edith and get her to open the Muse realm. I have to contact the Muse that changed James and get her to change him back.

Natalie - Then go now while you still can. Morgan will be here soon

Virgil - Good luck Eve

Eve - (smiles) Thanks! Virgil if this is the last time I see you I want you to know that, your forgiveness was the first big step I made on the road to redemption. You made me believe it was possible. Its always given me hope.

Virgil - Xena and Gabrielle would be proud of you.

Eve nods and runs out of the apartment.

Cut back to Craig and Jeff fighting the demons. One demon with long knife like claws attacks Jeff but Jeff blocks the attack with his sword but then the demon kicks Jeff down with a round house kick

Meanwhile Craig beside him backhands a demon then spins around and jabs it in the chest with the hilt of the sword then uses the hilt again to hit on the head.

Cut to Jeff who dodges a grab from a demon. A knife pops out from Jeff's sleeve and Jeff uses the sword and the knife to slice at the demons hands. The demon falls back but then spurns forward punching James in the stomach and chest then spins around low knocking the feet from under Jeff. Jeff falls on his back

Cut to Craig as he deflects an attack by cutting off the demons hand but the demon grabs Craig by the neck with his other hand and throws him into a wall.

Craig falls down hurt beside Jeff. They struggle to get up

Jeff - We are seriously outnumbered!

Craig - We need to get out of here. Let's go!

Craig throws down a small vial. It blows up and the smoke from the vial provide some cover for their escape

In the shadows Gawain and a demon monk look out on their plan.

Demon - It is working

Gawain -(smirks) And the Messenger is nowhere to be seen. She can't control herself in a state of distress over her friend. Assemble what hybrids we have left and get our best demon warriors to follow the Wiccan and the Vigilante!! We must strike now and strike hard!!

COMMERCIAL

Craig and Jeff burst through the door to Eve's apartment. Virgil, Natalie and Morgan have jumped up with surprise.

Craig - We have a problem!

Jeff begins to grab out more weapons

Morgan - What's the deal?

Craig - Hybrids, demons and that freak Gawain! They kicked our ass out there and they've followed us to the centre!

Natalie - They think now's the time for an all out assault!

Morgan - We're five people against an army of demons. What the hell are we going to do?

Craig - Where's Eve?

Natalie - Gone to Edith to get the Muse

Craig - We are royally screwed!

Fade to a dark realm. There are lines of hybrids and regular demons.

Gawain - It's time for a full scale attack and we have you to thank Myrhinne. Being a Genie suits you

Pan over to where Myrhinne lounges on a chair her legs swung over the side. Her appearance has changed though. She has short brown/ blond hair and she is wearing tight brown leather pants and a halter-top.

Myrhinne - (smirks) When I was banished from the muses you gave me what I needed. I owed you!

Fade to Eve as she once more enters Edith's temple. Strange enough, the torches are lit but there is no one there. Suddenly Eve whips around and stops the bat that was aimed at her head. Pan backward and sees that it is Edith with the bat. Eve tugs it away from her.

Eve - A bat? Classy.(tosses it away) Where is everyone?

Edith - It's night. We were sleeping.

Eve - Get them up. I need your help.

Edith - Why should I help you with anything?!! You nearly destroyed my order four years ago!! You destroyed the vile! You took our visionary from us!

Eve - He is the reason why I'm here! He's in danger. He needs your help.

Edith - Why didn't he come himself?

Eve - He's under protection. He is being used as a pawn to destroy me. What's worse is his psyche will be damaged if he stays like this. He will lose his visions. The more he is repressed the more he becomes damaged. (gets down on her knees) I don't deserve your forgiveness, I did a horrible thing and nearly destroyed your faith but please don't punish James. (bows her head)

Edith - (softly) What do you need?

Eve - (looks up) I need to find out what Muse talked to James.

Edith - There are a million reasons why I should not grant this.

Eve - But one good one.

Edith - (sighs) You will owe us for this

Eve - When ever you need me, I will be there.

Edith - Come with me

Cut to the centre Craig Morgan and Jeff are strapping on weapons.

Craig - (to Virgil and Natalie) We need to keep you guys here. It's safer then being on the front line.

Virgil - I feel like I should be on the front line fighting beside you. I was fighting before your great great great grandparents were even thought of being conceived.

Morgan - Okay not an image I want in my head right now.

Craig - If Eve gets the muse to change you back in the middle of fight, we don't know how you will be affected and you could be struck down.

Craig brings over big bucket full of steaming liquid and puts two more on the stove

Craig - Remember if any of those demons get past us and try to get in the centre go on the balcony and throw this stuff on them.

Natalie - What's that going to do? I saw "Kingdom of Heaven" but we're talking about demons.

Morgan - Yeah but this is Holy Water.

Natalie quirks her eye brows impressed. Jeff Craig and Morgan strap on the last of their weapons. Virgil calls from the window.

Virgil - They're here.

Pan through to outside the window. A small army led by Gawain approaches.

Cut to Eve standing in the middle of the Chamber of Gateways with Edith and the order. The girl goes around as before ringing the bell as the other girls meditate.

Edith - When the mist encompasses, ask for Myrhinne.

Eve - (nods understanding) Thank you for this.

Edith - We are doing this for James.

Eve nods and remains silent. As with James the same ceremony takes place and the ringing echoes through the chamber. The Priestesses eyes begin to glow. On the last ring the chamber instantly fills with a dense white mist. Eve tries to look through the mist seeing the outline of the gateway. White wispy spirits pass in and out adding to the density of the mist. Eve takes a deep breath.

Eve - I am looking for Myrhinne the Muse! I need her help. She made a mistake in changing my friend. He longer he stays like this the more his mind will become damaged. Please Myrhinne if you're there . . .

Suddenly the mist clears and Eve is standing in a bright marble chamber. Flowers, fruits and vines drape the columns inside and the chamber is adorned with beautiful hand made pottery and tapestries. Many beautiful women all dressed in flowing white gowns sit by their creations, some hold instruments while others have parchments of poetry and stories in their hands.

Eve - Wow . . .

Eve turns around and is faces with a regal woman, her reddish brown hair twisted up, her white dress flowing as she walks

Eve - Are you Myrhinne?

Woman - I am Sangita! Queen of the Muse Realm and you have defiled our sanctuary by speaking of one who is cursed among us.

Eve - But I need her help. She was the Muse who turned my friend's soul back to its first incarnation. He remembers nothing of his current life or any other former lives. Repressing these other lives . . .

Sangita - Will damage him. We know!

Eve - He wouldn't have asked for that

Sangita - Myrhinne tricked your friend by intercepting him in the crossing and posing as one of us.

Eve - But she has to change Virgil back!

Sangita - We know. We've known all along.

Eve - Why didn't you prevent it!

Sangita - We're abstracts. We can create all the wonders in the world but as soon as we step out of that gateway we can only act through others. Myrhinne has been working very hard to destroy us through the people we inspire. She was used to weaken you through your friend.

Eve - Who is she? How do you know about her and the things she's done?

Sangita - She used to be a muse once inspiring others but she always wanted to keep ideas for herself. Be the like the geniuses she helped inspire. She started to possess people, to feel the praise they received for her ideas. She became greedy, manipulative. Soon she was creating havoc, hurting people. We banished her from the realm, we stripped her of all intuitive and creative powers, and because she was not corporeal she walked the mist for centuries. We became aware she sold her soul for a body. A demon named Gawain allowed her to possess a Genie.

Eve - I need to find her. Can you help me somehow? It has to be fast because I need to help my friends. I can feel them now. They're in danger.

Sangita - We can't fight! We can only work through people.

Eve - Work through me! Help me! I can find Myrhinne and help my friends but I need your help to change James back!

Sangita - Your powers can be heightened and tuned by our creative energy. I must warn you, it will be very draining.

Eve - I will accept the risks. The people I care about are in danger and if they are hurt then the whole world will suffer. I can't let that happen

Sangita - (smiles)Your love is very great! And strangely, most inspiring. You might have made a good muse!

Eve - I'm honoured you think so

Sangita - Very well. Let us inspire you!

All muses close in on Eve and there is a flash of white light.

Flash to the centre. Gawain stands to the side smirking as the demons advance on. Morgan, Jeff and Craig step outside the doors and stand ready. The demons begin to charge and flip over the three to surround them for an all out attack.

Morgan slices one demon in the knee making it bend over. She rolls over its back and kicks another demon down.

Cut to Craig who jumps up and flips over kicking two demons down.

Cut to Jeff as he swings around and clotheslines a demon down.

Cut to Craig as he flips forwards kicking a demon behind down. As he lands Craig kicks another demon in front of him in the gut.

A few demons flip over the three and try to enter the centre. From the balcony where Virgil and Natalie are standing they pour scolding hot holy water on the demons. They demons scream in pain as they melt away, hybrids and all. Virgil and Natalie high-five.

Cut to Jeff who jumps up and deflects a hybrids kick with one leg and kicks the same hybrid in the chest with the other leg, sending it flying. Jeff brings out two sais that were strapped to his thighs. Jeff flips over and hits one demon twice with the hilts of the sais then backhands the demon before spinning around and kicking the other demon down.

Cut to two demons spinning around and kicking Craig in the chest and stomach knocking him down.

Virgil - (watching all this from the balcony) I can't take this!

The demon is about to strike Craig down when Virgil flips down from the balcony and intercepts the demon by grabbing it's arm and snapping it back and flipping the demon over. Virgil then turns around and helps Craig up before two more demons attack them from behind choking them.

Morgan gets up again to kick one demon down but as she spins around another demon does a roundhouse kick on her

Craig throws his head back and head butts a demon making it let go but meanwhile Virgil is backhanded so hard he flips over

Jeff tries to get up but is grabbed by another hybrid and is tossed into Morgan knocking them both down.

Craig is kicked down before being picked up in a chokehold.

Cut to Gawain who is not satisfied with the attack. He is looking for someone as he travels through the battle

Gawain - Where is she? (Goes over to Craig) Where is the Messenger?

Craig - (choked voice) Go to Hell!

Gawain is about to backhand Craig when suddenly all the demons are blasted off their attack and blown in to the centre wall by and invisible force. Gawain is shocked. He turns around to see Eve, with her eyes glowing as well as the Eli symbol on her forehead glowing. She seems to be dragging something with her as she walks out of the darkness.

Gawain - Impressive. You come prepared.

Eve - (multiple voices) I also come bearing gifts.

Eve tosses Myrhinne with little effort over to Gawain

In anger Gawain kicks Myrhinne out of the way.

Eve jumps up and flies though the air landing in front of Gawain. Eve punches Gawain twice in the face then punches him in the stomach. Eve throws another punch which Gawain ducks. Gawain uses the opening to punch Eve in the stomach. Eve stumbles back. Gawain swings but Eve ducks and sends him an uppercut knocking him back. He approached again but Eve punches him six times in the face then thrusts the palm of her hand into his throat then thrusts the heel of her hand upper ward breaking Gawain's nose. She then sends a massive uppercut to his chin sending him flying on to his back. He rolls over and spits out blood.

Myrhinne tries to make an escape. Virgil however appears. He folds his arms over his chest with a stern look on his face. He is blocking her path. Myrhinne laughs a little and smiles weakly.

Myrhinne - Virgil! . .. Hey! How are you? Really!

Virgil - You robbed an innocent man who was looking for help.

Myrhinne - He asked for it! . . .. Okay, not directly but he wanted it . . . And it helped right? . . . Okay, listen it's like this . . .

Suddenly Myrhinne's face transforms with horns coming out of all sides of her face. She punches Virgil making him fly back. Craig runs over to help but gets grabbed by the neck and thrown into a tree. Morgan runs over but Myrhinne just pushes her in the chest and Morgan goes flying through the air. Jeff runs over to try to catch Morgan but he only ends up breaking her fall as they both fall to the ground.

Cut back to Gawain as he charges at Eve. He throws a punch that she ducks and she punches him in the stomach then the face. She then sends a massive blow to his right cheek. Gawain spins around from the force of it but backhands Eve. He tries to punch her but Eve grabs both of his fists in her hands and crushes them. Eve's eyes glow before she head butts him down. Eve picks Gawain up and lifts him high over her head. She is about to finish him when she hears Myrhinne attacking her friends. Gawain kicks Eve in the head making her drop him. Gawain runs off trying to save himself.

Cut back to Myrhinne as she walks over to Virgil and picks him up by the neck choking him.

Myrhinne - I've always hated writers

Eve catches Myrhinne's shoulder and yanks her around. Myrhinne drops Virgil and looks at Eve. She realizes something

Myrhinne - Oh no!

Eve's eyes glow bright and the light over takes her face. Eve transforms and materializes into Sangita the Muse Queen.

Sangita - It's time to end this Myrhinne.

Myrhinne - Never, you hateful bitch!

Myrhinne pushes Sangita off. Myrhinne advances by jumping up high to attack but Sangita just sticks her hand out and Myrhinne is blown head first into a tree and knocked out.

Sangita walks over to Myrhinne's body. She looks to Virgil and looks around at Morgan, Jeff and Craig.

Sangita - There is no need to worry. Eve lent her body to be able to give us the capacity to stop Myrhinne's evil. Now all will be restored.

Sangita picks up Myrhinne and with no effort breaks Myrhinne's head off.

Sangita - It is done.

At that moment a sparkling force materializes out of both Sangita and Virgil. A white dense mist surrounds them, swirling and twisting in and out. The mist evaporates and all that's left is Eve and James. Both collapse to the ground drained of energy.

Fade to the early morning. It's still dark outside with sign of dawn just beginning to approach. Fade into Eve and James apartment. Eve and James are sitting on the couch with blankets wrapped around them. Both are looking very drained. Natalie sits in front of them.

Eve - How are the others?

Natalie - Cuts and bruises but otherwise fine. We also picked up some hybrids too. Morgan is going to keep them at the loft and appeal to their human side while Craig works on an antidote. As for you James . . .

James - You don't have to tell me how stupid it was.

Natalie - Every action has repercussions and you're going to have to live with yours now. You're not going to be able to produce visions like you use to. This little venture has left you badly damaged.

Eve - On a positive note we may be able to count on the muses and Edith's order for help in the future. I have to admit it was nice being able to control my powers at full strength.

Natalie - You'll get there Eve. Right now it's best you get some sleep, both of you. I'll see you later.

Natalie leaves the apartment leaving Eve and James by themselves.

James - A demon! Man how could I have been so stupid?

Eve - You were tricked James. It wasn't your fault. You didn't want this to happen.

James - (stands up frustrated) I think I did

Eve - What are you talking about?

James - Eve, the life we lead is a hard one. There's more bad times than good. I couldn't get out my emotions or my thoughts and they were driving me insane. Maybe I wanted to get rid of them by any means necessary, more than I knew.

Eve - I do understand James.

James - You face doubt but you are so resolute in your will to do good, despite the hardships. I don't have that sort of will power.

Eve - (stands up to face him) James . . .

James - When Carrie left and now missing I realized I'm not cut out for this mission. I failed her and I failed you

Eve - You didn't fail me James. You tried, you wanted to do good . . .

James - Wanting to do it and doing it are completely different. I can't even produce visions anymore. I'm no good to any of you. I haven't been in a long while. I even wondered why I still stayed around until I saw you and Craig

Eve - James, it was just a kiss . . . it broke the spell . . . it . . .

James - It meant something otherwise you wouldn't be so flustered about it. I love you Eve, have for a long time. I stayed around for you because I thought we still had something but I don't think that's possible anymore

Eve - (begins to cry) James . . .

James - I think it's time for me to re evaluate whether I need to be here, whether I want to be here. Your place is here Eve. It always has been. I need to go away for awhile. I need to get away from this, I just need some time to figure out where my place is

James walks away into his room and shuts the door. Eve turns around and covers her mouth as she begins to cry.

Fade to later that morning. Eve and James are outside the centre. A bus comes by and stops in front. James looks at Eve and she nods. He nods back and gets on the bus. Eve just stands there and watches the bus drive away.

Eve - (voice over commentary) I'm afraid of facing the oncoming evil alone. But I can't force my friends to face it with me if they don't have the strength to endure it. But why do we face these trials if not to make us stronger. This is a hard life and it carries a heavy burden. Virgil was right. Not all can walk it but those who do must do so with all their heart. James knows this. He just needs the time to decide.

Fade from Eve to James riding on the bus. He watches the scenery go by and thinks. Suddenly he pulls out a notebook and pen from his bag. He thinks for a minute and starts writing.

"I sing of the Messenger and those who fight beside her. The Wiccan, The God, The Vigilante, The Amazon and . . . The Visionary."

"I sing of a mission to bring peace and love to the world and to themselves and I sing of a friendship that transcends time and all odds."

James looks at what he just wrote and smiles. He writes some more.
