We give thanks to God always for all of you, remembering you in our prayers, unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith and labor of love and endurance in hope of our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father. 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

I spent a half-hour in prayer this morning with Jesus, Our Lord and Friend. He said, Melvin, My brother and companion, I love you. I have a word for all My friends spread throughout the world. All those who believe in Me have the duty to spread the Good News to their own community, their country and throughout the world. There are still many people who have not heard of Me in the world and whom will I send to teach them? Every time a person comes to believe in Me and enter My Church, My light penetrates another heart. I want the whole world to be covered in My light. How will they come to know Me and follow Me, if there is no one to teach them?

Today very little is heard about being a missionary and going to a foreign land to teach the people the Word of God and to establish My Church. All My followers should know that the Church is missionary and it is an essential part of Her. If you lose that dimension, your horizon becomes very limited and not wholly catholic. Parishes should invite missionaries to speak to the people and to let them know about the Church in other countries. All should receive the call to be missionary either by giving one's life to this important task or helping those working in these countries. Without a strong missionary dimension of the local church, there is something missing and the Church will be affected adversely by this omission.

I call you all, My brothers and sisters, to pray for the missions that the Church may grow in all the countries of the world. It is true that there is missionary work to be done wherever you are. I bless you with peace.

IT IS NOT EASY FOR YOU AND YET YOU DO NOT FLEE, BUT REMAIN FIRM IN YOUR

COMMITMENT AND IN THE TRUTH. THOSE OF YOU WHO REMAIN AND DO NOT GIVE IN,

My dearest children, I am your God and your Father, Who speaks today. Welcome,

My dear children, to this new year, to this new time of prayer, to this new

level of purification on which I am taking each of you who prays and listens to

the words of Heaven. I do not have to remind you that you are experiencing a

new level of purification; because, children, I know that you can feel it, that

you see it within yourselves. Certainly you feel it in sorrowful ways, in

remorse, in feelings of disappointment with yourself. My children, do not be

disappointed with yourselves. Rejoice, because you are being gifted in a new

and deeper way.

Remember, there is the need for prayer for the remission of your sin, for the

reparation of your sin. You need to be reminded of that many times; because it

shows you the effects of original sin and how long lasting they are. It will

hopefully help you, remind you of your weaknesses and your predisposition to

sin, a real anchor around the necks of all of My people. This anchor tends to

pull you down toward your weaknesses; and the longer you wait, the more easily

this happens. You know this is true. It is simply another effect of your

humanity. It is so important to remember the weakness and vulnerability of

being human. It will hopefully do away with your disappointment in yourself,

with your imperfection as you see it; because it is the world's imperfection

that you are experiencing.

Remember that sin will always be with you to a much lesser degree; but it is

there, the inclination and each of you, individually, has your own individual

and special vulnerabilities: but now, again, My, children rejoice because you

also see how far you have traveled in this new creation I am making of you, in

this new environment of holiness in which you are living, the holiness of the

Presence of Jesus and Mary and the many, many Angels. Remember the many, many

Angels that accompany you, My children. How glorious is this! How wondrous is

this gift! How uplifting when you are feeling down and disappointed and

discouraged and depressed! Remember that these feelings are part of your

letting go of the world. You must experience them. It is part of your process.

You know so much more about process and seeing it. It is not a theological

element of your spirituality. It is a practical, human element of your journey,

but it is something you must go through.

Remember that you are not alone. Pray for each other because of these dynamics.

Pray for courage as well as strength; and again, get over yourself, My children.

Do not be carried away by your own journey and your own weaknesses and the way

you would rather have it, then the way it is in My plan. It is thus for

everyone. It is needed in your experience for your purity, for your new level

of strength, for your new level of understanding yourself, and thus

understanding your God and His plans for you, and the humanity of Jesus. All of

these things are everything in importance to your journey, and they are more and

more important as time goes by; and you have been given more time along the way

so often.

My children, I speak at length today, because I am with you and love you so

strongly. I love you, My dear ones. I sustain you in life and keep you alive

with My love and My concerns for you. It is everything that you make as much

progress as possible in all of these trials that you experience, that you may

overcome as much as possible: your self, your "self", My people. What a burden

you are to yourselves, My children. How I wish to free you of this burden and

this absorption and worry. My children, your God is your all in all. As you

discover these things about yourself, give them to the Triune God, give them to

the Holy Mother, that you might be more relieved of the effects of your

weaknesses; your habitual sin, even though they are small perhaps, that cling

the most when it is part of your purification that you get rid of them, although

you will always have these inclinations.

My dear ones, I am your Father. I speak to you as a concerned and loving Father

this day with reminders, with encouragement, with great, great blessing, with

the great, great effect of My power, the might of My arm. O My children, do not

think I am just talking, talking. I am being a father. I am loving you. Allow

Me, for you must, you must cooperate in being children by allowing Me. You

still need to change, to become. Allow Me, My children, to do this for you, to

effect this within you. Allow Me. Let Me love you. Thank you for loving Me.

Amen, My children, rejoice. More and more, We are one. Amen, Amen." Carol

Jan 16 - HAVE CONFIDENCE IN ME

In answer to the visionaries doubts as to whether they would be strong enough to endure, the Virgin said:

You will be able to, my angels. Do not fear. You will be able to endure everything. You must believe and have confidence in me (First Years June 29, 1981).

Jesus also prepared his disciples for persecution:

See, I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Beware of them, for they will hand you over to councils and flog you in their synagogues; and you will be dragged before governors and kings because of me, as a testimony to them and the Gentiles. You will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved (Mt 10:16-18; 22).

Reflection:

Today both Christ and Our Lady speak of endurance in the midst of persecution, not only for the individual, but for the Church as a whole. Almost every nation on earth has record of Catholics who suffered and died in the name of the Christian religion. Elizabethan England, for example, saw the ruthless persecution of Catholics who took enormous risks to practice their faith. The issues were clear, a kingdom or state determined to crush the Catholic religion as something manifestly opposed to its goals, and a threat to its principles.

In more recent times, Nazi Germany also recognized the threat presented by the Church, as was attested by the presence of over 2,000 priests in Dachau alone. During the Cold War, Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union had an appalling number of Catholics and Christians who suffered severely for their faith, and usually the issues were as clearly defined as before: they represented a threat to a state determined to exterminate their ways and attitudes.

But the persecutions have never succeeded, although today they are more subtle and so, more dangerous. They take the form of a gradual wearing away of Christian values and beliefs by constant exposure to a hedonistic and materialistic culture through the mass media, the cinema, the arts, and even the courts.

Application:

Persecution is not always overt; do not be robbed of your faith through stealth. Stay close to Our Lady, live her messages. Remember her encouraging words today, "You will be able to endure everything. You must believe and have confidence in me."

Beware of the dark shadows

"While there is justification for looking on the dark side because of evil, there is, however, no justification for the present tendency to look upon the dark side of good. It is one thing to be gloomy about starvation, but it is quite another matter to be gloomy about good health; disease has its shadows, but why see shadows in health? In a word, why is it that so many see the dark side of virtue, goodness, honesty, purity and honor?"

Jan 15 - UNTIL YOU ARE FILLED WITH JOY

I am joyful, but my joy is not complete until you are filled with joy. You are not yet filled with joy because you are not yet at the stage of understanding my immense love (Locutionists Jelena & Mirjana October 1986).

And from the prophet Isaiah, words of joy:

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My whole being shall exult in my God; For he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Reflection: The great Austrian composer, Franz Josef Haydn, once said,"When I think upon my God, my heart is so full of joy that the notes dance and leap from my pen; and since God has given me a cheerful heart, it will be pardoned me that I serve him with a cheerful spirit."

Joy is the echo of God's love within us. To the degree that we can comprehend his love, through prayer, the deeper our joy will be. Marija Pavolovic, one of the Medjugorje visionaries, says that, "God's love is very great, and in his love he has created us. We are the fruit of his love. God has given us a special gift,: he wants to love us more than himself… He created us to respond to his love."

Application:

Reflect on the following today: "The supreme happiness of life is the conviction of being loved for yourself, or more correctly, of being loved of yourself" (Victor Hugo).

Medjugorje Day By Day Jan 14 - What we can do for the sick

"It moves me to see how the joy of Eucharistic adoration is increasing throughout the Church, and how its fruits are appearing. During the period of liturgical reform, Mass and Eucharistic adoration outside of Mass were often seen as being in opposition." "[However,] receiving the Eucharist means adoring Him Whom we receive." (Pope Benedict XVI, Dec. 22, 2005)

Jesus' good news was God's peace to all men of good will. That peace is something which is fundamental to the satisfaction of our most basic desires.

It is a peace of the heart.

We have been created to live in peace.

"Because of cold wars, high taxes, threats of inflation, and general insecurity, we have become accustomed to take a dark view of the world. There is some justification for this, for never before in the history of Christian civilization was there ever such a mass attack on decency, honor, personal rights and freedom as there is at the present hour."

With regard to what we can do for the sick, the Virgin said :

"Pray, pray and believe firmly. Say the prayers which have already been requested. [7 Our Fathers, 7 Hail Marys & 7 Glory Bes and the Creed. Do more penance. (First Years April 15, 1982).

Healing the sick was a major part of Christ's ministry on earth:

When Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever; he touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she got up and began to serve him. That evening they brought to him many who were possessed with demons; and he cast out the spirits with a word, and cured all who were sick(Mt 8:14-16).

Reflection:

Rather than speak of the sick, let us today simply pray for them as Our Lady asks. The following prayer was given to Jelena, the locutionist, by the Madonna. She said that it was the most beautiful prayer that could be offered for those who are ill.

Application:

Today, offer the following Prayers for the Sick: O my God, behold your sick child before you. Heed his special request, that which he feels is most important for him. May you, my Lord, entrust to his heart these words: "The health of the soul, too, is vital."

Lord, may your will be done in him; if you choose his healing, may he be cured; if you choose another blessing, may he bear his cross with love.

I also pray to you for all who intercede for him. Purify our hearts that we many worthily convey your holy mercy.

Protect your child, relieve his pain, that your will may be done in him, and that your presence and love may be revealed through him. Grant him the grace to bear his cross with courage. Amen.
