I spent a half-hour in contemplative prayer this morning with Jesus, Our Lord. He said, Melvin, My brother and friend, I love you.

I bless you all, My brothers and sisters, living in all the countries of the world. You are My friends if you accept Me and spend time with Me in a heart-to-heart talk every day.

I empower you with the Holy Spirit every day to live in close union with Me.

The person who wishes to follow Me must do My will in humility and not their own will puffed up with pride. The Father made His will known by giving us the Ten Commandments.

You cannot say you love God if you do not follow the commandments. The commandments do not burden you or restrict you but they make you free from any immorality to be able to follow Me.

Do not let pride rule your life for if you do, you are sure to fall. It is the humble person who succeeds because that person knows his or her weakness and the importance of relying on Me for strength.

The cross is present in every human life. Many fight the cross and are afraid of it. This fight leaves them anxious, depressed, worried and unable to sleep at night.

My advice to you is to do as I did. I embraced My cross and carried it and it became the means by which I was able to redeem the peoples of the world. The cross means all the suffering, pain and difficulties of life. I call you, My friends, to carry your cross with Me. I will help you carry it and you will find that it is not so overwhelming.

There will be peace in your heart because I will be with you and I will strengthen you. Remain always with Me, filled with hope and love and I will not disappoint you.

I came into the world for you to bring you life so that you may have it in abundance. Open your heart that I may fill it with My grace. I bless you.

My very dear ones, I am your Jesus of Mercy, happy to be with you this day to celebrate the time of My baptism. I invite you this day, My children, everyone in the world who listens, to begin again to live your own baptismal promises.

It is true someone else made them for you at the time; but as you mature, you become more familiar with them and now you realize they are the outline of your life. They are the framework in which you live and serve the Father's Will.

You also realize that doing this brings you joy, brings you through whatever difficulty life brings you! More and more, you experience the presence of your Triune God and Holy Mother and so many Angels with you at all times, giving you

the strength you need for whatever it is; and you pray for each other and together, and this is the Kingdom. My children, live the victory of living in

the Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven.

Live the process that makes you become more and more who you were created to be. As you do this, you are alwaysprepared for whatever occurs in the world, no matter how difficult, even how

disastrous.

You know that you are preparing as each year begins for the new events of the New Year. Take care of yourselves, My children, as you do this. Take care of each other, even if it is in prayer and not a hands-on situation because your prayers have wings and hands and the ability to comfort and heal. Believe this!

Pray in this way, My children; because you are all needy and you are all weary and you all continue to pray and to serve and try to do the Father's Will.

Always, this will be the theme. Always, this will be the reminding that I bring you. Each time you reach a new level of service and experience at the Father's Will, you will understand how important these things are.

You wish to know how to be prepared? This is how you are prepared, to be more faithful to your God, to spend more time before Me. I speak to everyone in the world. Some of you do this everyday and are so very faithful; but some of you need to be reminded, always encouraged, always.

Please, My children, be aware of the seriousness of My words; because of the seriousness of the events just ahead of you. Spend time with Me, My children, more time. You can find that time. I wait for you. I love you.

So I turn to you, you-chosen souls, will you also fail to understand the love of My Heart? Here, too, My Heart finds disappointment; I do not find complete surrender to My love. MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY

Jan 17 - READ MATTHEW 6:24-34

Our Lady directs us to Matthew's gospel today:

Each Thursday, read again the passage of Matthew 6:24-34, before the most blessed Sacrament, or if it is not possible to come to church, do it with your family (Locutionist Jelena & Mirjana (March 1, 1984).

Reflection:

Let us prayerfully reflect on that passage, which will also serve as our reflection today:

Matthew 6:24-34: No man can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other or be attentive to one and despise the other. You cannot give yourself to God and money.

Warn you, then: do not worry about your livelihood, what you are to eat or drink or use for clothing. Is not life more than food? Is not the body more valuable than clothes?

Look at the birds in the sky. They do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are not you more important than they? Which of you by worrying can add a moment to his life-span?

As for clothes, why be concerned? Learn a lesson from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work, they do not spin. Yet I assure you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was arrayed like one of these.

If God can clothe in such splendor the grass of the field, which blooms today and is thrown on the fire tomorrow, will He not provide much more for you, O weak in faith!

Stop worrying then, over questions like, `What are we to eat, or what are we to drink, or what are we to wear?' The unbelievers are always running after these things. Your heavenly Father knows all that you need.

Seek first his kingship over you, his way of holiness, and all these things will be given you besides. Enough, then, of worrying about tomorrow. Let tomorrow take care of itself.

Today has troubles enough of its own. (Mt. 6:24-34).

Application:

Heeding Our Lady's advice today, place a book mark in your Bible at Matthew 6:24. Reflect on this passage on Thursdays for the next several weeks.

Dear God in Heaven, Saint Anthony renounced the world to attach himself only to You. I ask for his prayers in my process of growing more in love with You. Help me to deny myself and detach from this world.

I also lift up to his prayers all the people I know who are addicted to alcohol, drugs, human relationships, work, money, physical beauty and other enticements of the world.

Remove their crutches, Father, so that they fall into Christ's healing hands. Holy Spirit, make it plainly obvious that everything that is not of You is really harmful and a poor substitute for Divine Love. Saint Anthony, pray for us. Amen.
