Toward the end of the first year of my novitiate, darkness began to cast its shadow over my soul. I felt no consolation in prayer; I had to make a great effort to meditate; fear began to sweep over me. Going deeper into myself, I could find nothing but great misery. I could also clearly see the great holiness of God. I did not dare to raise my eyes to Him, but reduced myself to dust under His feet and begged for mercy.
My soul was in this state for almost six months. Our beloved Mother Directress [Mary Joseph] encouraged me in these difficult moments. But this suffering became greater and greater.
The second year of the novitiate was approaching. Whenever I recalled that I was to make my vows, my soul shuddered. I did not understand what I was reading; I could not meditate; it seemed to me that my prayer was displeasing to God. It seemed to me that by approaching the Holy Sacraments I was offending God even more. But despite this, my confessor [Father Theodore] did not let me omit one single Holy Communion. God was working very strangely in my soul.
I did not understand anything at all of what my confessor was telling me. The simple truths of the faith became incomprehensible to me. My soul was in anguish, unable to find comfort anywhere. (23a)

May 2 - PRAY THE ROSARY
Today the Gospa speaks of prayer and the rosary:
"Dear Children, your prayer has helped my plans to be fulfilled. Pray continually for their complete fulfillment. I beseech the families of the parish to pray the rosary." (Weekly Message September 27, 1984).
Prayer is also on Paul's mind in his letter to Philemon:
When I remember you in my prayers, I always thank my God because I hear of your love for all the saints and your faith toward the Lord Jesus. I pray that the sharing of your faith May become effective when you perceive all the good that we May do for Christ. Psalm 1: 4-6
Reflection:
In reflecting on the mysteries of the rosary each day, we are gradually changed into the likeness of Christ. Just as people who have been married for a long time sometimes acquire each other's characteristics, so we acquire the mind and heart of Jesus Christ as we meditate on his life through the rosary.
"The Hail Marys of the rosary," writes Fr. Albert Shannon, "are like background music while you are watching Our Lord's life. Background music helps us when reading and working. We don't pay much attention to the music, but it helps us."
Application:
Today, pray the Rosary slowly and meditatively; if you have any literature with the mysteries depicted, use it as a visual aid in staying focused.

The shallowness of "Let's do lunch...sometime!"
"Insincerity of a minor degree is that in which we constantly promise something that we never expect to fulfill. The `Yes Man' is Exhibit A of that group, who is always afraid to assert his own mind and who identifies agreement with agreeableness.
Another form is the invitation to dinner, `Come up and have dinner with us sometime,' brings the equally agreeable and insincere answer, `Yes, I will.' The insincerity is in the indefiniteness; `sometime' can often mean, `We are not expecting you,' and its answer sometimes means, `Nor do I expect to go.'"

Tell souls not to place within their own hearts obstacles to My mercy, which so greatly wants to act within them. My mercy works in all those hearts which open their doors to it. Both the sinner and the righteous person have need of My mercy. Conversion, as well as perseverance, is a grace of My mercy. (1577)
Let souls who are striving for perfection particularly adore My mercy, because the abundance of graces which I grant them flows from My mercy. I desire that these souls distinguish themselves by boundless trust in My mercy. I myself will attend to the sanctification of such souls. I will provide them with everything they will need to attain sanctity. The graces of My mercy are drawn by means of one vessel only, and that is-trust.
The more a soul trusts, the more it will receive. Souls that trust boundlessly are a great comfort to Me, because I pour all the treasures of My graces into them. I rejoice that they ask for much, because it is My desire to give much, very much. On the other hand, I am sad when souls ask for little, when they narrow their hearts. (1578)

May 1 - THE MONTH OF OUR LADY
Referring to the month of May, Our Lady said:
"May this month be for you the month of the rosary and reading your Bible…"(Visionary Prayer Group May 9, 1988).
Reflection:
The month of May means that spring is here, and all of nature seems to rejoice; budding flowers and trees, green grass and sunshine, usher in a season of soft colors and new life.
This is Mary's month, of May crownings, processions, the rosary and, as she says today, a time for reading sacred scripture.
As Catholics, we are aware that the Bible is the inspired word of God, that his presence and truth are found within its pages. In somewhat the same way, nature reveals the image and beauty of God. St. Paul writes, "Since the creation of the world, invisible realities, God's eternal power and divinity, have become visible, recognized through the things he has made" (Rom 1 :20).
As spring unfolds, May we discover anew God's presence in creation, and with the psalmist sing his praise:
You visit the earth and water it, your greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide the people with grain, for so you have prepared it. You water its furrows abundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth. The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy, the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy. Psalm 65 :9-10,12-13
Application:
In celebration of this month dedicated to Our Lady, set aside in your home a May altar, placing on it an image of the Blessed Mother, some spring flowers, a candle, and a rosary. As a family, light the candle each day and offer Our Lady some special prayers, such as the rosary, the litany of Mary, or another prayer for the special intentions of the Queen of Peace.

Jesus
Dear apostles, My heart is bursting with love for each one of you. Indeed,
I cannot contain the love that I possess for all of mankind. Many reject My
love. They are not open to accepting love directly from My heart. You, My
beloved apostles serving in this time, do accept the love of the Saviour.
You rejoice in My love. You allow My love to transform you into carriers of
heaven's healing plan for humanity. Because so many reject Me, I give in a
ridiculously lavish way to those willing to accept Me.
Many of God's
children, living in the sadness of sin, will not admit that God could offer
them anything of value. They are closed to My love for them and they are
closed to My plan for them. But these people will, nevertheless, accept
kindness from you, God?s apostles.
They will accept good example from you,
God's apostles. Ultimately, if My plan is successful, they will accept love
from you. The love they find in your heart will belong to Me because I
placed it there. When the people around you are loved by you, they
experience Me. This works because you are connected to Me each day through
your apostolic pledge and through your apostolic service.
I have told you
in the past that you bring light to a dark world. I want you to know, dear
loyal apostles, that the light you bring is changing the world. We, those
of us in heaven, see the light growing. Some of you begin unsteadily. You
are not certain that you are called. My beloved one, I am speaking to you
now. Listen to Me. You are called. You belong in this family. I need your
help. I do not ever want to be apart from you again. It hurts Me to be
apart from you and it hurts you to be apart from Me.
Only I love you
perfectly. If you remain close to Me, I can continue to love you in such in
a way that you will value yourself as heaven values you. You are not
perfect. It is true. I accept this about you. If you believed you were
perfect, My beloved friend, you would be no good to Me.
Far better for every one of My goals that you believe you are flawed. Believe in My perfection and be willing, and together we will bring an unstoppable flow
of love into the world. I rejoice in your love for Me, dear apostle.
I want you to rejoice in My love for you. If you do this, you will show others an accurate example of the peace that comes from resting in the Saviour.
Rejoice in your heart. I am there and I love you.

Mother of Perpetual Light

MANKIND, MY DEAR CHILDREN, IS BY NO MEANS AWARE
THAT THEIR EARTHLY POSSESSIONS WILL SOON NOT BE THERE.
I PRAY THAT YOU WILL BE WITH ME UNITED
UNTIL THE FATE OF THE WORLD BY GOD IS DECIDED.
