Notice - The Feast of the First Holy Martyrs of the Holy Roman Church

Due to recent misrepresentations and distortions of the truth in the local
secular media in the Emmitsburg Maryland area, it seems appropriate to review
how the Roman Catholic Church has acted in the past in explaining the purpose of
private revelation as well as reference a sample of relatively recent alleged
apparitions which the Church has deemed as reliable and worthy of belief.
Regrettably, the recent reporting demonstrates an obvious and apparent lack of
understanding of the matters related to Marian apparitions both by the reporters
and some of the principal interviewees. Thus, each of the items in below have
been selected to provide very pertinent information to better understand to
these matters of grave concern.



Pope John XXIII on Private Revelation

Pope John XXIII refers to the purpose of authentic private revelation in his
1959 address as the close of the Marian Year (Feb. 18, 1959):

?The Roman Pontiffs?.also have the duty, when after mature examination, they
deem necessary for the common good of bringing to the attention of the faithful
those supernatural lights which it pleases God to dispense freely to certain
privileged souls, not for the purpose of presenting new doctrines, but rather to
guide us in our conduct.?



Lumen Gentium

In Lumen Gentium, (Vatican II, Section 12), the Council Fathers urged the
faithful to be open and attentive to the ways in which the Holy Spirit continues
to guide the Church, including private revelations. We hear:

?Whether these charisms be very remarkable or more simple and widely diffused,
they are to be received with thanksgiving and consolation since they are fitting
and useful for the needs of the Church. Extraordinary gifts are not to be rashly
desired, nor is it from them that the fruits of apostolic labor are to be
presumptuously expected. Those who have charge over the Church should judge the
genuineness and proper use of these gifts through their office, not indeed to
extinguish the Spirit, but to test all things and hold fast to what is good.?

Pope Benedict XVI

Pope Benedict XVI, in his commentary on the Third Secret of Fatima in June,
2000, said that private revelation can be a genuine help in understanding the
Gospel and living it better at a particular moment in time; ?therefore it should
not be disregarded. It is a help which is offered, but which one is not obliged
to use.?



The Catechism of the Catholic Church

?Throughout the ages, there have been so-called ?private revelations,some of
which have been recognized by the authority of the Church. They do not belong,
however, to the deposit of the faith. It is not their role to improve or
complete Christ?s definitive Revelation, but to help live more fully by it in a
certain period of history.(CCC, Ch. 2, III, 67)

Some might regard the above Church-approved messages from Our Lady as ?doom and
gloom.Others might consider them serious, somber, and yet, hope-filled, and an
accurate assessment of what may be needed for God to bring all His children home

nor did the great flood in Noah?s time bring about the end of the world.

In June, 2008, at the Center of Her Immaculate Heart in the Emmitsburg area,
both Our Lady of Emmitsburg and God the Father addressed these same serious
matters.

?When you see the ?two sunson the horizon, you must know that this is a time
of change, a time of this new beginning about which I have spoken to you
before?.After a while, you will see a time when there is another body in orbit

What Does the Bible Say?

It would be difficult for many of the faithful to call the above messages from
Our Lady of Emmitsburg and God the Father ?doom and gloom,and even more
inaccurate to label them as ?end of the world prophesy,and those who believe
them to be true as ?doomsday cultists.Unfortunately that is what has been
done.

Still others may chide that if it is not in the Bible, Sacred Scripture, it
cannot be from God. However, all may want to pray and ponder the words of the
Prophet Zechariah:

?In all the land,says the Lord, ?two-thirds of them shall be cut off and
perish, and one-third shall be left. I will bring the one-third through fire,
and I will refine them as silver is refined, and I will test them as gold is
tested. They shall call upon my name, and I will hear them.(Zech 13:8-9)

I have been celebrating Mass at a local parish while the pastor is away the past few weeks. Many of the readings during that time concerned the prophets and their message and trials. I was moved to reflect once again on the prophetic dimension of our Baptism in Christ-Priest, Prophet and King.  Several decades ago, the great Archbishop Fulton Sheen said,

        “The prophetic voice of Christ has all but been stilled in the Church today.”
To the degree we fail in this prophetic mission, the world will sink into oblivion  under the increasing weight of its sins.

In my lifetime the United States has gone from 'quite a wholesome, rational, and moral country,' to one that is largely decadent, irrational, and immoral. Most people seem to be hardened to it, unconcerned that we have a death wish in process.

First it was artificial contraception, then abortion, then partial-birth abortion, then infanticide (all of which have been supported by many liberal politicians at one time or another, even some running for president) not to mention euthanasia, and outright killing of the disabled and sick. Actually, it's even worse. Terri Schiavo wasn't sick. She didn't die from an illness. They killed her by starvation, a very cruel way to die.

Now its same sex marriage {no transmission of life, no fruit of natural love} and we 'call it' inclusive and just. It is yet another nail in the coffin of a society that is clearly dying. Every stage of life is under assault by the forces of death. From prevention of life through artificial contraception, to abortion, which is homicide by definition in each case {the taking of the life of an innocent human being}, and genocide taken as a whole. Preventing life, ending life from the youngest to the oldest. We call it progress. It is a death wish, and we had better watch what we wish for!

"All that evil requires to prosper is that good men remain silent.” 'The hour is late.' We have had years to change course. Instead, we have obstinately refused and gone from bad to worse. May God have mercy on us, and grant us the courage and strength to act in accordance with that truth.

THINK:

Human language could never describe Heaven. WhyBecause in all human
experience there are no words which can tell us what Heaven is like. St. Paul
was granted a vision of Heaven, and yet he could not tell us what it is like.
All he could say was that we have never seen, nor heard, nor even imagined what
Heaven is like. This thought of Heaven's greatness should impress me very much.
Every moment brings me nearer to this all-glorious life. How small and
insignificant are my earthly sufferings and trials when compared with this
all-satisfying, never-ending reward!



PRAY:

O Jesus, King of Glory, the thought of Heaven arouses within me the
desire to practice more virtues in my daily life. It gives me a firm
determination to despise whatever hinders my spiritual perfection. You made me
for eternal glory, and in this earthly life you have granted me the opportunity
to prove my sincere desire for that glory. Even though I seek peace and
happiness in everything that I do on earth, I shall never know the perfect
happiness which my heart seeks until I have entered into Heaven. Help me see
this earthly life through Your eyes. Let me never lose an opportunity to resist
evil and do good in this earthly life. May my love of good works grow. I wish to
do more and more for love of You. If You love me enough to grant me the perfect
reward of heaven, should I not love You enough to give myself to You for the
rest of my life on earthI hope to imitate Your boundless generosity in my own
limited, human way from now on. Amen.

CHRIST's VOICE:

My CHILD, in your daily life think often of Heaven. Do not let earthly desires dim the vision of your last and highest goal. This vision will bring you peace in adversity and joy in time of trial.

2. In Heaven you shall have more than you have ever desired, more than you ever imagined. You will never know the end of your joy, nor will you be tormented by the fear of losing what, you love. You will ways have what you want, and you will always want what is best. You will share My knowledge, and My happiness will fill your soul.

LITANY OF THE GRACES OF ST. PAUL

[R] For me to live is Christ.

Glorious St. Paul,
You concurred in the stoning of Stephen - help me to recognize how God uses even
my sin to draw me closer to Him and to perfect me in His love, [R]

After encountering Jesus on the road to Damascus, you were blind for three days
- help me to realize that in the dark moments of my life God is preparing me for
greater things, [R]

The Lord revealed to Ananias how much you would have to suffer for the name of
Jesus as His instrument - help me to accept the suffering present in my life as
a way of serving God and living for Christ, [R]

When your enemies conspired to kill you, fellow Christians helped you to escape
from the city by lowering you down the wall in a basket - help me to confide
myself to the unfailing care of Jesus Christ especially as I find it in the
companions you give me, [R]

While you were fasting and praying, the Holy Spirit revealed a mission God had
in store for you - help me to be docile and attentive to all the ways that the
Holy Spirit wants to speak to me and use me, [R]

The Lord made you a light to the nations and a means of salvation to the ends of
the earth - help me to be obedient to God's will and committed to
evangelization, [R]

When you were stoned by the people in Lystra, your disciples prayed in a circle
around you until you arose and walked back into the town - help me to pray
unceasingly and to have the courage to face the persecution that is part of
being a Christian, [R]

When the people at Miletus wept because they heard that they would never see
your face again, you commended them to the gracious Word of God - help me to
embrace the presence of God when life's problems leave me feeling helpless or
alone, [R]

When the ship that bore you to your trial in Rome was on the verge of shipwreck
and the sailors were despairing, you assured them that they would not lose even
a hair of their heads - help me to meet the devastating circumstances of my life
with a hope that is steadfast, certain, and firm, [R]

When you were shipwrecked in Malta, you were bitten by a poisonous snake, yet
you suffered no harm - help me to be free from fear even before those things
that terrify me the most, [R]

During your two-year imprisonment in Rome, you preached the reign of God and
taught about the Lord Jesus Christ - help me to realize that every situation of
my life is an opportunity to witness my faith, to love Jesus Christ, and to
glorify God, [R]

When you begged the Lord to remove the thorn in your flesh, you accepted that
Christ's grace was enough for you - help me always to rely on the grace of
Christ and not on my own resources, especially when my trials seem oppressive,
[R]

You asked the Romans in the letter you wrote them if they realized that God's
kindness was an invitation to them to repent - help me to acknowledge God's love
and kindness in my life through my fervent and renewed repentance, [R]

You have assured us that we have received a spirit of adoption that moves us to
cry out "Abba! Father!" - help me to live according to the Spirit as a true
child of God in unwavering confidence, fidelity, love, and trust, [R]

Closing Prayer

Loving Father, from time immemorial You designated the apostle Paul to know Your
will, to look upon the Just One, and to hear the sound of His voice. Paul's
love for Your Son was beyond all telling. For Christ emptied Himself and took
the form of a slave, obediently accepting even death on a cross. Paul followed
Jesus in this path of humility and total self-giving. Help me to imitate Paul
as Paul imitated Christ. May my life, in all that I think, say, and do,
proclaim to Your eternal glory that Jesus Christ is Lord.
