Dear Friends,
"There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test Jesus and said, 'Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?' Jesus said to him, 'What is written in the law? How do you read it?'
He said in reply, 'You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.' He replied to him, 'You have answered correctly; do this and you shall live." Luke 10: 25 - 28
We had a cool morning yesterday with plenty of clouds but the sun came out in the afternoon and it was warm. Today we will have a beautiful sunny day with the temperature past 20 degrees Celsius.
Yesterday I had an hour of adoration at our church between 11:00 a.m. and noon. In the afternoon I took our visitor to North Cape to see the many windmills there and we walked along the path near the sea.
Then we went to Tignish Shore to walk along the beautiful beach where some people were sitting and hundreds of birds were grouped together here and there. I celebrated Holy Mass in the evening at 7:00 p.m. in the little shrine of Our Lady of Prince Edward Island, and I will celebrate Holy Mass at the little shrine this morning at 9:30 a.m.
Our Lord gave a message to Joseph and these are the words Jesus gave him, "Many people ask themselves this question, 'What is the purpose of life? Why are we here in this world with all the suffering, so many people are starving and there are so many sicknesses?'
Those who believe in God will ask like this scholar of the law, 'What must I do to inherit eternal life?' Eternal life here means to be with God in heaven where you will live forever.
Heaven is life after death where there is no longer any suffering or death or starvation and all are filled with joy and happiness being with God and seeing Him forever. There you will never be tired and indeed you will be blessed.
You were born in this world to live in union with God so that after the test you would enjoy the glory of heaven for eternity. In order to reach heaven, you need to love the Lord, Your God. He must be first in your life every day and you must love your neighbor as yourself.
I came into the world to teach you what God expects of you. I called you all to believe in Me with all your heart for I am the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. I came with one purpose to help you get to heaven. Without My help you cannot achieve the purpose for which you were born.
Throw away all your hesitations, your pride, your fears and the thought concerning what others will think of you, and come and follow Me. Make this leap of faith and become My follower and I will be there to help you. I am always ready to give you all you need, if you will believe in Me and enter My Church and My Kingdom. Do not delay for it might be too late. I call you to come to Me now."

Dear Friends,
Jesus came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter's son? Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Are not his sisters all with us?
Where did this man get all this? And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house. And he did not work many mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith. Matthew 13: 54 58
Below is another message received by Joseph from Our Lord. Jesus spoke to him saying, I grew up in Northern Israel in the town of Nazareth. Joseph and My Mother, Mary, had a home there and many people knew Me. I attended the synagogue regularly especially after I was 12 years of age.
After I began My public life I returned at times to My native town and I spoke in the synagogue I attended when I was younger. The people of Nazareth refused to accept Me because I lived there. They believed that I was an imposter showing off with such wisdom and power. They did not believe that I was the Messiah, the Saviour, and that I was the Son of God. I was unable to heal many people because of their unbelief.
Many of those I have chosen to do My work are also rejected by their family and friends. They still see them as one of theirs with whom they went to school and it blocks them to accept that they have the power to do My work.
These are accepted by strangers who can read the signs and accept the message. Because of My rejection in Nazareth, they will understand that I am an example for them. Indeed a prophet is accepted everywhere except in his native place and in his own house. This is a trial, which all have to go through and it brings pain to the one who is treated like this. Without faith it is impossible to do much among these people. Pray that they open their hearts to the people I sent them.

- AUGUST 27 - ST. MONICA Today the Blessed Mother speaks of faith as the foundation of our lives:
From the very beginning I have been conveying the messages of God to the world. It is a great pity not to believe it. Faith is essential, but one cannot compel a person to believe. Faith is the foundation from which everything else flows (First Years December 31, 1981).
In his letter to the Hebrews, Paul defines faith:
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Indeed, by faith our ancestors received approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible (Heb 11:1-3).
Reflection:
Today we honor one of the great women of faith, St. Monica, the patroness of Christian mothers. Born in 331, she married and had children, one of whom was Augustine. She poured forth many tears and prayers for his conversion, which she witnessed in her lifetime.
He later went on to become a priest, bishop, and one of the church's greatest theologians. It is appropriate that our readings today deal with faith, for this was the foundation of Monica's life and her legacy to her children.
Application:
Faith is a gift. Today, pray in thanksgiving for this most precious of gifts, and ask the Lord to deepen it.

Dear children, I wish to help you grow in renunciation
and mortification. In this way you will be able to understand the beautiful life of those who especially give themselves to me. Dear children, God blesses you day after day and wishes to change your life. Therefore, pray that you may have the strength to change it (Monthly Message May 25, 1990).
John the Baptist also called the people to change their live by turning from sin:
In those days John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness of Judea, proclaiming, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near"(Mt 3:1-2).
Reflection:
St. Augustine was born in Africa in 354. His young adulthood was a stormy period, including fathering a child out of wedlock. In his twenties he moved to Milan, Italy, where he became a professor of rhetoric, but his personal life continued to be stormy and wayward.
While in Milan, two things happened to him. First, he became increasingly unhappy with his personal life, and second, he became attracted to Christianity. It was in this frame of mind that he sat down one day and began to ponder his life. Suddenly de broke into tears and began to cry out to God: "and you, Lord! How long will you be angry with me? Forever? Why not at this very hour put an end to my life?"Augustine said later:
I was crying out like this when, suddenly, I heard the voice of a child. It seemed to say, "Take and read! Take and read!" I stood up, for now the voice seemed like a command to read the Bible. I got a Bible and opened it, and the first words my eyes fell upon were from the letter of Paul to the Romans.
They read: "Throw off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us conduct ourselves properly as in the day, not in orgies and drunkenness. not in rivalry and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh"(Rom 13:12-14).
When Augustine read this, he stopped. There was not need to go on. He says: "My heart was suddenly flooded with a light that erased all my doubts. And my soul was filled with a deep peace."

I know of a mother who, after an introduction to several ladies who had dropped in for tea, asked her child, `Now which one did I say was my best friend?' Today, the Majesty of God enveloped and transpierced my soul to its very depths. The greatness of God is pervading my being and flooding me so that I am completely drowning in His greatness. I am dissolving and disappearing entirely in Him as in my life-source, as in perfect life. (983)
My Lord and my God, You know that it is You alone whom my soul has come to love. My soul is entirely drowned in You, O Lord. Even if I did not accomplish any of the things that You have made known to me, O Lord, I would be completely at peace because I would have done what I could. (989)
This evening, when I heard the hymn, "Good night, Holy Head of my Jesus," on the radio, my spirit was suddenly swept away to God's mysterious bosom, and I knew in what the greatness of a soul consists and what matters to God: love, love, and once again, love.
And I understood how all that exists is saturated with God, and such a love of God inundated my soul that I am at a loss to describe it. Happy the soul that knows how to love unreservedly, for in this lies its greatness. (997)

MEDJUGORJE DAY BY DAY
These thoughts for a day are taken from a daily meditation book based on the Messages of Our Lady of Medjugorje by Father Richard J. Beyer, Ave Maria Press. AUGUST 25 - ST. JOSEPH CALASANCTIUS
We are called to evangelize through the Madonna's words and miracles at Medjugorje:
I am anxious for people to know what is happening in Medjugorje. Speak about it so that everyone will be converted (Special Message 1985).
And in Matthew's gospel, the risen Christ also gives his disciples a special charge:
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you (Mt. 28:19-20).
Reflection:
St .John Calasanctius took this commission of Christ to heart in his evangelization and teaching of the young.
Born in 1557, he was ordained a priest and later dedicated himself to caring for poor children, founding a religious order pledged to that work. "This ministry," he once wrote, "is directed to the well-being of body and soul. At the same time that it shapes behavior, it also fosters devotion and Christian doctrine."
Application:
Deeply devoted to the Blessed Virgin, St. Joseph Calasanctius wrote this Trinitarian Prayer of Praise to Mary. Let us offer it now for all children that live in poverty:
Let us offer praise and thanksgiving to the Most Holy
Trinity who has shown us the Virgin Mary,
Clothed with the sun, the moon beneath her feet, and on her head a mystic crown of 12 stars.
Let us praise and thank the divine Father who elected her for His daughters. Our Father.v Praised be the divine Father who predestined her to be the Mother of his divine Son. Hail Mary.
Praised be the divine Father who preserved her from all stain in her conception. Hail Mary.
Praised be the divine Father who adorned her at her birth with his most beautiful gifts. Hail Mary.
Praised be the divine Father who gave her St. Joseph to be her companion and chaste spouse. Hail Mary. Glory be..
Let us praise and thank the divine Son who chose her for his Mother.

Praised be the divine Son who became incarnate in her bosom and there abode for 9 months. Hail Mary.
Praised be the divine Son who was born of her and was nourished by her. Hail Mary.. Praised be the divine Son who in his childhood was taught by her.
Hail Mary.
Praised be the divine Son who revealed to her the mystery of the redemption of the world. Hail Mary. Glory be.
Let us praise and thank the Holy Spirit who took her for his spouse.

Praised to the Holy Spirit who revealed first to her his name of Holy Spirit. Hail Mary.
Praised to the Holy Spirit by whose miracle she was at once Virgin and Mother. Hail Mary.

Medjugorje Day By Day Aug 26 - FASTING WITH THE HEART
Message of August 25, 2007 "Dear children! Also today I call you to conversion. May your life, little children, be a reflection of God's goodness and not of hatred and unfaithfulness. Pray, little children, that prayer may become life for you. In this way, in your life you will discover the peace and joy which God gives to those who have an open heart to His love.
And you who are far from Gods mercy, convert so that God may not become deaf to your prayers and that it may not be too late for you. Therefore, in this time of grace, convert and put God in the first place in your life. Thank you for having responded to my call."
"For on that day when her death was so close, she was not concerned that her body should be sumptuously wrapped or embalmed with spices, nor with any thought of choosing a monument or even for burial in her own country.
Of such things she gave us no command, but only desired to be remembered at Thy altar, which she had served without ever missing so much as a day, on which she knew that the Holy Victim was offered, by whom the handwriting is blotted out of the decree that was contrary to us, by which offering too the enemy was overcome who, reckoning our sins and seeking what may be laid to our charge, found nothing in Him, in Whom we are conquerors.

Up to now, Jesus has been bringing me to know about, and to have a presentiment of, this grace, but today He granted it to me. I would not even dare to dream about it.
My heart is in ceaseless ecstasy, as it were, although outwardly nothing disturbs my contacts with my neighbor or my attending to various matters. Nothing is capable of interrupting my ecstasy, nor can anyone suspect it, because I have asked God to protect me from detection by people.
And, together with this grace, there entered my soul a whole ocean of light, enabling me to understand God and myself. Amazement overwhelms me entirely and leads me as if into a new ecstasy [aroused by the fact] that God has deigned to descend to me, who am so little. (1057)

- AUGUST 26 - FASTING WITH THE HEART
Today Our Lady speaks of fasting "with the heart":
Dear children, today I call you to begin fasting with the heart. There are many people who fast only because everyone else is fasting. It has become an empty practice. And so I ask the parish to fast out of gratitude to God for allowing me to remain so long with you. Dear children, fast and pray with the heart (Weekly Message September 20, 1984).
In Luke's gospel, Jesus fasts in the wilderness:
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the Devil. He ate nothing at all during those days, and when they were over, he was famished (Lk 4:1-2).
Reflection:
At times, Our Lady of Medjugorje speaks of "fasting with the heart," a term meaning, first of all, accepting the invitation to fast with confidence in God, who will bring forth beautiful fruits from our efforts.
Second, it means to anticipate and welcome the spiritual dynamic that will begin to reshape our lives; this includes a deeper sense of repentance, a joyous realization of God's forgiveness, and a growing love, faith and hope.
Fasting with the heart also means experiencing a new freedom from material things, for we will begin to see the essential in life and not be mired in the superfluous. It means growing in a profound love for God and neighbor, a deepening joy in Christ, and new eyes to see as the Lord sees. Ultimately, to fast with the heart is a gift of grace, not a penance, from the heavenly Father.
Application: Can you identify any changes that have happened to you since you began fasting? What changes would you like to see?

I offer them for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, and the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all Apostles of Prayer, and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month.
