The World of The Catbadger

My life fades, The vision dims, All that remains now are memories. I remember a time of chaos, Ruined dreams, this wasted land. But most of all, I remember the small furry one, The one they called The Catbadger. To understand who he was you have to go back to another time. A time before the land sprouted great cities of pipe and steel, back to a time when all animals were free to roam the lands. Take yourself to a time before the great human plague infested these lands, back to a time when nature was at one with each other and it is there you will see where the one called The Catbadger belongs. Many years ago, long before humans ever walked on this land, there was a time when harmony was prevalent amongst all creatures. The balance of nature was established and all creatures, great and small, lived in the circle of life. Each and every one of them knew their place in the world and the destiny they had to fulfil. As in all societies then, there grew a hierarchy of beings. It started with the primal food chain. The biggest, or more intelligent, would dominate the smallest, either through sheer brute force and ignorance or through superior intelligence. The strongest would feed on the weakest, through greater strength and speed. The more intelligent would develop tools or hunting methods. Thus was the balance of nature in those times. Each, and every, species evolved to meet their needs and thus remained the status quo as it was and always would be. This was until the human factor came into the equation and disrupted the great flow of the circle. You must really understand that the great circle is a well balanced wheel and any unbalancing effect to its revolution causes major disruptions to the smooth running of the equilibrium. Gone now. For reasons long forgotten two mighty warrior tribes went to war and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Their leaders talked, and talked, and talked but nothing could stem the avalanche. Their world crumbled. Cities exploded into a firestorm of fear. Humans began to feed on my minions and then on each other. On the roads it was a white line nightmare. Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. In this maelstrom of decay The Catbadger has not been immune to the losses suffered by his minions. In the roar of an engine The Catbadger lost every thing he ever held precious and became a shell of a Catbadger, a burnt out desolate Catbadger. A Catbadger haunted by the demons of his past. A Catbadger who wandered out into these wasted lands and it was here, in this blighted place, that The Catbadger learned to live again. For years The Catbadgers endured the interferences of humans, their physical and emotional abuse, along with their petty bigotry and arrogant prejudices, until there was only one Catbadger left to roam the land. There comes a point in everyone’s life when they have to stand up for their own rights and for what they believe in. Their time will come. Soon, very soon. The sands of time are running very low. Like a Phoenix rising from its ashes they will rise from theirs again. They will return.
