Fanfic (Poem) - After Death
Mieko Belle

Disclaimer: Characters belong to Philip Pullman.

By the way, I’ve forgotten whether the books mentioned Lyra’s eyes colour, and I don’t own them so I can’t re-check. Profuse apologies if I’ve got it wrong, which I probably have.

For Andrew.

After Death

I often dream I kiss the lips in front of Lyra's voice, Of gazing in her eyes that shine the deepest azure blue,
And walking through the Gardens as the watchers all rejoice
At the sight of two young lovers lost in love's soft hazy hue.

I walk with her in reveries where rain is soft and mild,
And smile at the diamond beads upon her upturned face. The rain on my cheeks doesn't last; I cry just like a child
As I fold my arms around her and find lonely, empty space.

The daylight somehow seems like treacle, thick and black and dark.
Its viscous creeping fingers grab my vision by the neck And squeeze it tight as I stand by and soothe my screaming heart
With vain hopes that the next night's dream won't too end in a wreck.

At least this way she'll keep her youth. I'll never see her going.
I'll never have to see her wane or hear her fight for breath.
I'll do my part and keep her here, alive via my poem, Then smile in bliss, complete again, when we meet after death.
