Oxford Botanical Garden

As many of you probably know, the Oxford Botanical Garden (where Lyra and Will's seat is located), is very real. BTTA now has pictures of three places in the gardens that are mentioned in the books, courtesy of Timothy Walker, who was kind enough to take a few digital snaps of the gardens and e-mail them to me. Take a look at the links below. (If you wish to use these images for your site, please e-mail me before posting them.)

Exeter College, Oxford

Pullman has said that Exeter College (where he attended) was his primary model for Jordan, and that Jordan inhabits the space in Lyra's world that Exeter does in our world. The following are links to the Exeter website, pics of different places in the college of some interest:
The Dining Hall

Front Quad
The Hall
The Fellows' Garden
The Library
The Chapel

Magdalen College/ Oxford England

Magdalen College (Oxford England) is the building across the street from the Oxford Botanical Gardens. :

Also, remember the last line in the books: "All the bells of the city chimed, once each, this one high, that one low, some close by, others farther off..." so on and so forth. Want to hear the bells of Magdalen College? Go to the Magdalen College website, click on "features" in the lower left hand corner, then "ring the tower bells"
