All people possess (see Framework of the Old Religion, Psychic abilities section) to a varying degree, extra sensory perception, but the physical body is also surrounded by a flowing current of electromagnetic energy. This current also flows within the body. This energy can be increased and directed by the mind. We can think of the body as a generator and the mind as a control center. Many works of magic (and psychic manifestation) can be associated with the use of this energy. Within the body itself are seven energy zones or centers, These serve to draw energy in, and to send energy out.
The drawing shows The placement of these centers.
The first center is the Energy Center (also called the Fire Center and functions in the genital area. This is the Seat of Power where concentrated life energies and psychic energies dwell. It is here that sexual energies can be raised and directed by the mind. The Fire Center was used to great effect in ancient times and was banned by the Christian Church, which knew the power of sex magic, and feared the power and liberation of its participants (especially in women). This center we label as being transmitive.
The second center is known as the Personal Center. This center is both receptive and transmitive and deals with astral energies. The Personal Center is one of several "Gates" through which the astral body of the individual can exit from the physical flesh. Great amounts of energy can be drawn in and sent out from this area, which is used extensively in Shamnistic practices.
The third center is the Power Center. This center is also transmitive and receptive and deals with Life energies. Through this center both physical and astral bodies are nourished.
The fourth center is called the Emotional Center. This center is basically receptive (in modern Man) but is transmitive as well. The Emotional Center deals with human feelings and morals. This center enables us to sense another person on an emotional level.
The Fifth center is the Vibrational Center. It is transmitive. This center deals with causing action and reaction.
The sixth center is the Psychic Center. It is basically receptive out functions in a transmitive manner as well. This center is also called the Third Eye and the Purity Center. It is a very active psychic center and another exit way for the astral body.
The seventh center is the Divine Center. It is receptive and transmitive and deals with "God Consciousness." This is our higher self and our place of meeting with the Great Spirit.
On a physical level these centers function to maintain the body and its organs. The Fire Center governs the reproductive organs. The Personal Center governs general health and specifically the liver, pancreas, and spleen. The Power Center governs the adrenal glands. The Emotional Center governs the Thymus gland. The Vibrational Center governs the thyroid gland. The psychic Center governs the Pineal gland. The Divine Center influences the pineal gland.
The diagram shows two flowing currents within the body known as the Ida and Pingala currents. These currents issue forth from the Fire Center and cross through the Emotional Center and again through the Psychic Center. In Humankind today (for the most part) only one of these currents is functioning. One of the primary reasons for this is because of the way in which sexuality manifests in our modern world. Today most of us deny the sexual polarity within us. In ancient times they recognized that are all male and female. The Ida and Pingala currents flow equally in the advanced practitioner, providing health and spiritual power. The Ida current is feminine and the Pingala current is masculine. The imbalance in the world today is obvious. Each of the seven centers corresponds to one of seven energy bands (auras) surrounding the body and to one of the seven planes. The drawing below shows the different aura bands.

AURAS
The electromagnetic field which surrounds ail things is known as the aura. This force field may be seen psychically as a fluid pulsating, oval-shaped ring of light, or it may appear ms a swirling pattern of light with several colors shimmering through it. For some it will not translate into visual terms but will be sensed or felt. The aura has actually been photographed through the use of Kirlian photography named after the Russian scientist who discovered this method.
A person who is highly skilled in aura reading may gather information about another's mental and emotional state, as well as information concerning her physical health and spiritual development, by observing the aura. Metaphysics teaches that the aura consists of seven inter woven rings of light, each revealing a different aspect of the person. The "first" ring reveals her state of health, the second, her emotions the third her intellectual make up, the fourth, her higher mind (imagination and intuition), the fifth her spirit, or the link between the individual and the cosmos, and the sixth and seventh reveal cosmic aspects. These last two are not usually visible on most people.
The aura is "superimposed" over the etheric which is the invisible double of the physical body and is shed along with the physical at death. The etheric is the animal force of the body. It may be observed as a bluish haze around the body. The health and vitality of the individual determine its thickness. It is usually one-half to four inches. The etheric body has the function of drawing in life energy from the atmosphere and distributing it along the system.
Once the physical body is shed at death, the etheric is shed also. However, it may take a while for the energy of the etheric to dissipate. It is something like turning the electric stove burner on so that it gets hot. When you turn it off it will remain warm for while. Often what people think of as a ghost is really the etheric energy of the person. It has no consciousness but follows the habits and pal of the body to which it belonged. People who die suddenly, in an accident for example, may leave behind a strong etheric that will take some time to dissipate.
Host people can be taught to see auras; the first ring emanating from the physical etheric body is the one usually seen. It is not necessary to perceive the individual layers of the aura, or to distinguish the aura from the etheric in order to gain information about the person you are observing. To perceive and diagnose the aura accurately, the person being observed must be naked: otherwise you pick up vibrations from the clothing. For our purposes, however the ability to distinguish a glow of light around the head and should is sufficient. If we get a volunteer, and no one objects, and if there's an interest, we might try and do an accurate reading.
When first observing auras, the colors are sometimes not perceived. Only a halo-shaped yellowish or whitish glow may be apparent the colors, when observed, will be seen with the inner and not the physical eye, so that you may only feel or sense the color. With practice, you will be able to perceive the colors visually. Though color is usually thought of as an absolute, it is really very subjunctive. Because of this variation and because the aura is continual pulsating, two people observing the same person may pick up different colors. Every emotion leaves its trace in the aura, so the colors fluctuate with your moods. Often, however, one or two colors will remain predominate. As you observe the aura for colors, allow the awareness of the color and its meaning to rise anew with each aura you observe. Here are some common colors associations:
To observe the aura, you need to look with soft or blurred eyes.
If you wear glasses, it is often easier to see the aura without them. Visualizing auras apes not require the kind of intense focus need for reading or driving. You need to relax and allow yourself to perceive it. The aura surrounds the entire body, although it is more easily observed around the head and shoulders. It may take several attempts before you see the aura. You may see it upon the first attempt but not "trust" it. You may feel it was only an after image, or that your eyes were playing tricks on you.
VISUALIZING AURAS the person being observed should sit in front of a white or lightly colored background. The aura is more easily observed this way. It is also helpful if she closes her eyes and sends energy into her head. This increases movement in the aura and makes it more visible. The person observing should close her eyes, relax and affirm to herself. "I can see my partner's aura." Then she can open her eyes and begin staring at her partner's forehead. After a minute or so the aura will become visible. When first learning keep your gaze on the forehead; if you look directly at the aura it will seem to disappear. If, after a few minutes it hasn't become visible to you, close your eyes and you may see the outline of the aura. Then open your eyes and continue observing.
SHAPING AURAS - The aura is continually vibrating and changing size shape and color. To demonstrate changes in shape, have the person being observe, concentrate on shaping the aura into a peak on top of her head. To observe changes in color, have the person being observed concentrate on one particular color. If she is projecting strongly enough you will be able to observe the color or shape she is sending. By observing the auras of several people, you will see individual differences in sizes, shapes and colors.
SENSING AURAS - To sense auras, work with a partner. Relax and center yourself. Now slowly move your hands around your partner's body, about an inch or so away from it. Become aware of her energy. Notice if there are any places that seem cooler or warmer than others. Note how far away from her body you can perceive her energy. Often people, who don't get much exercise, the energy around their feet will feel cooler or be harder to detect. Notice any other disruptions in the flow of energy. Places that feel very warm, the kind of heat associated with a sprained ankle, indicate blocked energy, as do unusually cold places. You will notice that as you detect disruptions in the energy flow of your partner will probably confirm them by saying something like "Yes, I do have a backache," or I did sprain my wrist some time ago."
AURIC PROTECTION This exercise utilizes your body's natural defense mechanism, the aura. by visualizing your aura as a porous substance that allows energy to flow through it without out getting caught, you be able to De in situations where the energy is negative and you won' be disturbed by it. Work with a partner who stands on the opposite side of the room facing you.
Relax and center yourself. Be sure you are standing comfortable with your feet firmly on the floor, your weight distributed evenly. You may want to focus on a spot an inch or so below your navel, and imagine that you are inhaling through that spot. Now that you are grounded, begin to imagine that your body is a honeycomb, mesh screen or any image that suggests that you are open and porous. You are so porous that any energy coming through will flow right through without affecting you in any way. Keep your attention completely focused on this image. Your partner will, without giving you any warning, walk rapidly towards you, stopping only inches from your face. You will continue to hold your image so that you are not startled or affected by her energy. It will probably take several attempts before this happens. After you have practiced awhile, switch roles with your partner.
Using images of honeycombs or screens will not only protect you from absorbing other people's energy, but also the energy from loud noises and any other bothersome thing in your environment.
STRETCHING AURAS there are may different breathing exercises and yoga positions that strengthen the aura. Once you are comfortable with a deep breathing exercise in which you have increased the length of the inhalation and exhalation, you can add visualization to the practice. Establish a gentle rhythm of slow, deep breathing. Now in that you are suspended in the middle of a giant abalone seashell filled with light. The shimmering, iridescent pastel lights reflect from that seashell are swirling around you. As you inhale, fill yourself with light. Feel it flowing throughout your body. You may also imagine that you are surrounded by beautiful music. Again, inhale this music.
BASIC COSMIC LIGHT ATTUNEMENT - relax, close your eyes and visualize a sphere of brilliant white light hovering over your head. Then will a cone of white light to come down from the sphere and bathe your aural see the white light filling your aura and destroying all traces of negative energy. Feel the white light filling your body and relaxing your senses as you chant:
Continue your chanting and visualization until you feel a definite chat in the atmosphere around you. Feel the power shaft of light beaming down and washing your aura just as a running brook would wash your body. Then send the light before you. Direct it mentally as you say aloud; "I send the Light before me to make the path easy and the way straight It brings joy and effectiveness to every being who comes close to my aura. I am light going to meet Light and only Light can result."
Do this exercise frequently. Several times a week is best. Spend at least fifteen minutes cleansing your aura. It is important for all your magickal workings as well as preparing yourself for Ritual and Circle work. Use it when you are depressed, anxious, or ill. Light a candle and incense if you wish. Begin personal magicks with it. Us, it to deepen and relax yourself before beginning a private Circle. It is a very very good exercise. Memorize the rune (chant above).
