Kissing

For some reason, Misato and Kaji's kisses (or at least attempts) ALWAYS coincides with Shinji and Asuka's. I'm not talking about when Misato and Kaji were young teens in love, I'm talking about when the audience actually gets to see them kissing. First in episode 9, when Asuka moved in with Misato and Shinji because of the "dance" they had to practice for. Asuka "accidentally" fell asleep on Shinji's bed after using the bathroom, and Shinji attempted to kiss her, but decided against it in the end. The next scene is then the one seen above. Kaji kisses Misato in the elevator almost the exact same time Shinji had attempted to kiss Asuka. The next time we see the coinciding of the kisses is in episode 15, after the wedding reception that Misato, Kaji and Ritsuko attended. Ritsuko left early, leaving Misato and Kaji by themselves in the bar. Misato then got so drunk that Kaji had to carry her home. On the way, Misato breaks down and begins crying about how she is just like Shinji, always running away. When she refuses to stop, Kaji silences her by kissing her. The next scene sees Asuka asking Shinji whether or not he wants to kiss her. When Shinji is reluctant, Asuka mocks him so he obliges. They kiss, and I'm pretty sure that it was around the exact same time Kaji and Misato were kissing. And if you want to count the movie, when Misato and Kaji are "kissing" and Shinji and Asuka are watching, Asuka says something like, "When I grow up, I want to be exactly like Misato" and then she's with Shinji.

It is just me or is there something else going here? Why do Kaji and Misato's kisses always coincide with Shinji and Asuka's? What does this mean? The truth is, I have no idea. Could it be that these four people are so interrelated that anything that goes beyond friendship between each of them must also be reflected by all of them? Or are Shinji and Asuka the next Kaji and Misato? Do Shinji and Asuka represent mankind's last hope for the rebuilding of the population like Kaji and Misato may have once did? All possibilities, but it's essentially up to you. One thing I've learned, is life is what you make it. And so is Evangelion. Just remember -- everything in Evangelion has a reason for happening, even the smallest detail, for example this seemingly meaningless coinciding of kisses.
