How to Get & See the Red Baron 3D Community Paints Page Updated 24/02/02
Here is a step by step guide on getting the official Red Baron 3D community
paints. I have also included information on how to set you game to 'see' the paints
and all the links you will need to get them. Each of the online squads have their
own paints and to be able to see them you have to have their files on your PC.
All these files are available from 2 websites, one called "Red Baron War Paints"
and the other called "Flyberts Chateau". Its up to you which site you use to get
them.
The Red Baron War Paints site offers the Squad paints only with a paintcfg file
that only includes the code lines required for the Squad paints. The Flybert site
offers a larger set of paints (Squads, Custom & Others).
To get each squads paint set, goto either of the sites below
Follow the instructions at each site to download the paints and install them on
your computer. After you have done this, your Sierra/RedBaron/Paint folder
should look like this (below). The important parts to look at are the individual
folders and the paintcfg file. If these folders and paintcfg file are not located
correctly, you will not be able to see the paints, so make sure they are in the
same place as in the picture below.
1) EXTRACTING THE ZIP FILES (Common format for MMP Paint Files)
I use Winzip, which is available free from many places on the web, to zip up and
extract all of the files on this site. When you see the instruction to use the
"Use Folder Names" option when unzipping any files, set up the Winzip options
as per the pic below.
2) SETTING THE GAME TO SEE THE CUSTOM PAINTS
You will need to set the RedBaron II/3D Game Preferences to use the custom
plane textures. To do this, start the game using the Muliplayer option from your
Start menu to get this screen up, then click on "Preferences".
Check the box marked "CUSTOM" under the "AIRCRAFT TEXTURES" heading.
From here you can also set the graphic options that are used in the Multiplayer
games.
When you are in the 'Gold Room' or Lobby', as it is known, and are in the process
of selecting your Airplane, don't forget to choose a Squadron ID number to
access any custom paints you have loaded.
These numbers (1 to 190) will also work if you have no paints loaded, instead they
will display the different inbuilt paint schemes that come with the game.
