US COURT RULES AA IS A RELIGION
A US judge has ruled that Alcoholics Anonymous is a religious group. An
AA member confessed at a meeting that he killed two people and was
convicted of manslaughter. The district judge in White Plains, New
York, has classed statements made at the meetings as confidential
religious confessions and has overturned the conviction. Paul Cox, 33,
served seven years for murdering a man and his wife in 1988. The
district attorney has appealed against the decision. -- 3Aug01 (The
