Fished our 3rd annual Keenfish charter with Capt. Steve and crew aboard the Tracer this past Sunday. Feeling like we were "due" after the last two somewhat lackluster trips... the Island smiled on us this day! :)
The conditions were about as ideal as one could hope for and we had a tank of squid and a tank of nice medium size sardines for bait. Started off with a nice YT bite early AM that turned into a slow pick and then morphed into a pretty decent Halibut bite later in the morning. The Hali's must have moved in to feed on the chum that settled to the bottom? Also had one nice WSB that came to play but that was it for the croakers.
Around 11:00 we moved around the corner to see if we could get some Calicos to play and it turned out to be a good move! Usually it takes some time to get them chummed up and ready to go but this time it was "game on" as soon as the pick dropped and they were some really nice model calicos not the typical barely legals.
Fish count for 10 anglers,
21 Yellowtail
10 Halibut
1 WSB
30-40 Calicos (majority released)
