Fish Of The Month

Matt Rios shows off a beautiful Striper he caught from the surf on Memorial Day! Marina Beach, CA Caught Memorial Day 5/29/06 ~ Fishing for Barred Surf Perch this past Memorial day, Matt (age 13) using a 7' medium action spincast rod with 10-lb test line, a 1 once sliding egg sinker, 8-lb leader material and a #10 hook, switched from using an 1-1/2" grub to a medium sized live sand crab he dug up. He then hooked up and "approximately fifteen minutes later without use of a net" landed this Striper. *The hook is still visible in the corner of the fishes mouth. The fish was measured to be just shy of 32" in total length and although no scale was available we figure it to have weighed somewhere between 13 and 15 pounds.

Pictured here is Jerome "Romey" Higman with his first Catfish! Romey was house boating with his family last July on Lake Powell and managed to hook and land this beautiful Catfish all on his own. Way to go Jerome! We'll have you pulling on Tuna before you know it!!

Ray Emmons Costa Rican Sailfish aboard the Plautus

Ray Emmons with a Beautiful Costa Rican Sailfish July '03! Ray was fishing aboard the 40' sportfishing yacht "Plautus" out of Playa Flamingo along with Bob & Paula Kasprowicz and myself. We had fantastic conditions offshore this day along with some excellent fishing. The boat raised five Sails and landed four. We also managed 9 Yellowfin Tuna and left them biting because we were out of cooler space. Ray had 2 of the 4 Sails. Congratulations Ray!

Scott Croker with a nice Striper! Here is Scott's report: "Hi this is Scott Croker Dan's son. Thank you for putting my picture on your website. I caught that fish at Pyramid Lake. We actually caught six big ones and a bunch of 2-3 pounders. All day long we were using frozen cut up anchovies. The best place on that lake for the best action is by the dam. The lake is deep we just let it sink on its own and they hit it on the way down." Thank You Scott for sharing your catch here at Keenfish!! That is a sweet looking Striper and it sounds like you guys had one heck of a great day at Pyramid! Nice one!!

Pictured here are "Team Ekberg" Eric(Big Daddy) with son Ian and daughter Erika. They were fishing with Captain Richard Chellemi onboard GamefisherII out of Playa Flamingo Costa Rica. They enjoyed some phenominal fishing this day catching and releasing two Sailfish and decking these two gorilla Yellowfin Tunas. The smaller of the two pictured at left was estimated to be 170 lbs. and the cow on the right was estimated to be 250 lbs. Way to put the wood to 'em guys and thanks for sharing your pictures here at Keenfish!!

Willy's jackpot YT caught on the Pacific Queen 7-20-02

My fishing buddy Will with a gorgeous Yellowtail he decked while fishing on our 2 day company charter aboard the Pacific Queen on 7/20/02. Turned out to be the jackpot fish to boot. Nice one Willy!! My best fish of the trip was an albacore that went about 20 lbs. Click Here to see it.

Pictured here are Will Higman and his two kids Matilda & Jerome. We were fishing outside the Federal Breakwall in Long Beach this day on Wills boat "Bolca GrandeII". It was the young'uns first saltwater fishing trip and they had a blast. I managed an almost legal 27" WSB. Click Here to see it. Thanks for having me along Will. It was a day to remember for sure!!

John's 90lb. Yellowfin caught out of Playa Flamingo Costa Rica

Big John Davey with an estimated 70lb. Yellowfin Tuna he caught the day after Thanksgiving 2001. He was fishing out of "Playa Flamingo" in Costa Rica. That is one nice toad John and boy did it taste good!!
