Emmett
Meum est propositum in taberna mori
- I intend to end my days in a tavern drinking What is left of this man's coarse hair has been grown long enough to sweep a good deal of it over the rapidly spreading bald patch at his crown, leaving the
rest of the greying blond waves to fall to just below the lowest of his chins. Unfortunately this does nothing to distract the eye from his ruddy complexion and bulbous nose. His eyes are an unusually brilliant blue and were, no doubt, his redeeming feature before they became so bloodshot and watery. Despite these drawbacks, to which should be added his bulging waistline, he holds himself as cockily as if he were a muscled, attractive twenty turn old. (No picture, but I'd
love to see one if anybody specialises in drawing a less typical fantasy
character.) Emmett was inspired simply by a passing joke I'd made to another player in a page: I said something to the effect that in
RL, I was a fat, middle-aged man (I think we were discussing anonymity). Since I was playing
a little girl at the time, the other player was a little startled, to say the least, although I hastened to add that I was just kidding. The incident played about in my head though:
after all, that was about as
far from what I was currently playing as I could get. I'd originally resolved never to have more than one character, but that resolve had weakened when I realised just how much there was to
Harper's Tale.
I was still quite firm about wanting to play characters different from each
other, and Emmett was certainly that, besides, aging male characters are always in the minority. So he spent the next six months being mulled over in my mind, and when I heard that Tillek was to be opened, I decided that that was the perfect opportunity,
and @created him at thirty-eight turns of age. I definitely didn't want him to
be a sensitive new-age male doormat or the Mr Perfect Ken, so I gave him as many
flaws as I
could think of: fat, balding, ugly, stupid, lazy, etc, etc. I swear I'm not a
misanthropist: Emmett is based on various men that I've actually met and
caricatures in sitcoms, most notably the British sitcom 'Men Behaving
Badly.' He's also not really a chauvinist as he respects women and their rights
in general, it's just that when he's talking to an individual, his thoughts tend
to be more... self-centred. It makes him a lot of fun to play, although my competence in
playing him varies. He has no real IC history, beyond having lived in Tillek all his life. All he's done is work as little as possible, drink as much as possible and flirt with anything in a skirt
for forty odd turns. He was fairly idle for the first
five months of his online existence, as I finished off my year studying in
Italy. Now I can devote more time to him, but he's essentially a static
character, created just for the fun of
trying something new, and I don't really intend to get anywhere with him ICly in the way of positions within the hold, nor do I have any ambition to develop and evolve his
character significantly. So, except for growing older, something
he's not pleased about, while his player delights in it, he'll
probably stay pretty much the same, for as long as I play him. A bit of colour around the hold, but (perhaps fortunately) no more than that.
I know full well that I should play him more, so feel free to bug me for RP and
pull guilt trips on me. Also, I'm quite receptive to anybody wishing to be an
old flame or even the product of a previous fling. Emmett has had some
success in the past. Emmett's name is Cornish slang:
a slightly derogatory term for somebody who isn't from Cornwall. He
is nothing like my previous character whose background is firmly rooted in Cornish inspiration, so it seemed appropriate for him. I was surprised to be able to use it though...
seeing as it's a common enough surname, I thought that there would be somebody with it as an alias at least. There
did turn out to be a fire lizard on the game called Emmett, but fortunately, Orill didn't mind my using the name as well, as long as I wasn't bothered (I have to say, it
gave me a terrible shock the first time I saw "Emmett suddenly blinks in from ::between::!").

Face Painted on a Yellow Submarine Brown Beatle
Long and narrow and rather round to boot, this lizard seems to be a bit confused as to what
he is, taking to the water more naturally than the air, his wings shortened and thick, as is his tail. Hues of yellow seem to dinge over his true
brown, trying to cover it up, though it doesn't succeed as over his chest, pure color seeps through in two dots, a circle and a half circle, spreading across his chest in a blatant smile. It's a good thing that demeanor matches this beauty mark as
the odd lizard waddles about, legs short and body ovoid. If not one to do gymnastics in the air, he is a powerhouse and can gain the speed and power he desires by sheer determination. Otherwise, he seems
unextraordinary, the same dingy yellow covering over his true colour, though not covering it completely as it shimmies through past the
colour so determined to hide it; against his peers, he is quite special. A true friend through and through, if you can stand the close quarters he likes to keep.
Hatched at Flitstock '99, from Shev's Gold Myrrh and
Jezabel's bronze Torey
Emmett was exactly forty turns old when he Impressed a fire lizard for the first time and had never seen the creatures as anything more than pests with sharp claws and teeth that have a tendency to embed themselves into anything harassing their human friend. Since he inadvertently Impressed Beatle, he started looking into the possibilities... a kind of Pernese 'chick magnet', he hopes. He's not really exploiting him, mind you: he sees it as more of a partnership and has a genuine, if little seen, affection for the creature. Beatle, himself, has gradually grown used to the fact that Emmett has a tendency to provoke outrage in women, although the little brown is more of a peace-loving creature... and an alcoholic after being raised by Emmett. He's typically found in the Singing Shipfish, sticking his nose into people's drinks.
