The Brat Cave
The 'brats of Reaches. They're infamous now. As is the ever increasing amount of nannies... some might say that half a dozen plus is a little excessive, but hey, the more the merrier? Anyway, this is an utterly unnecessary page especially devoted to the weyrbrats and their nannies at High Reaches Weyr, Harper's Tale. Why is it here? Because Pyrene's player likes the picture above? Because it's a useful spot to keep a list of NPC brats? Just for the heck of it? Well, yes. I have the space, so why not? Oh, hush! So what if I technically don't have anything to do with the nurseries anymore? It's up now. Also, if you're a brat or nanny at HRW and have a suggestion for anything else we can put on this page, let me know. I'm willing to play around with it.
So welcome to the Brat Cave! It was all started by Mirisae (now nuked, you probably know her best as Jezabel) who saw this gap in the weyr market back in July 98 and built this room (click on the link to browse around), which has since been re-desced, keeping Mirisae's original conception but customised to the 'brats specifications... be sure to 'look mural' if you stop by on the game. With Mirisae as our first nanny, the handful of children in High Reaches at that time (Falada, Pyrene, Shaela, Zirade (Rade) and about three others... now those were quiet times) moved in. Within a few weeks, Mirisae had handed head nanny-ship to Zirade who created a horde of NPC brats to fill in the gaps and we've never quite got rid of them since, despite the increased amount of PC children. Word has it that at any one time there are roughly 666 brats in the weyr, although nobody's counted since Rade Impressed. After the early NPC days, and then a passel of deaf-mute girls, we now have what is probably the brattiest generation of kids... still, it's tough growing up in a weyr, particularly one as odd as High Reaches: the weak get fostered out young.
We also have an entire horde of nannies to control them. Pyrene had a fetish for collecting assistants (less work for her, that way), but for anybody seeking employment at the weyr, please remember also that there are numerous other jobs: be a cook! An assistant headwoman! A guard! Make something up if you've a mind to; be creative! Besides which, assistant nannies now have Tyara as their boss. Fear. On the other hand, if nannying's what you really want, contact Tyara (or in fact any staff member: @send *lc if you're interested in a job at the Weyr). We do ask that you be active though, after all we've got plenty of nannies without adding inactive ones.
Many PC brats have already made their mark on the Weyr, but over the turns, several NPC's have popped up and lingered. So I've made a list of some of the NPC brats that have appeared around High Reaches Brat Cave. Some of these were the product of a brainstorming session between Vanessa and myself, and some were just plucked from poses in RP. I've given credits here to the person who (as far as I know) came up with the name, and they are welcome to tell me if I've made any mistakes. The personality sketches are usually my own summary based on the way that person posed the child, and any ages are very general. I may or may not update this list in due time to account for the children growing up.
Anole - But I promise I won't stay out too long! - and then - Five more minutes? Okay, two? How about 1? 10 /seconds/? C'mon, pleeeeeeeeeeease? (Vanessa)
Burgh - one of those egomaniacs, confident he can do everything, and then tripping over a pen. (Vanessa and Auri)
Dreck - frightening boy who has a habit of shoving food and anything else small enough up his nose. (Siannen)
Eneryp - Hair fetish: eat it, pull it, suck it... he just likes the stuff. (Tyara [Ed's note: Oh, hilarious!])
Enna - little, cute and with a major clinging to Colyn syndrome. (Colyn)
Filla - untidy, and forever spilling things. (Phaedra)
Irelle - a wannabe-16 13 turn old Daddy's girl. Stood as a candidate for Ysbryth's clutch, but as far as I know, she didn't Impress. (Pyrene)
Ixor - Bubblymaniac, smeary-jam fingers and face kind of guy, pudgy-ish, snotty, and of course, bratty. (Vanessa)
Nenat - Pigtailed young girl who doesn't mind Eneryp's hair fetish. Must be love. (Siannen)
Qui, Quae, Quod - Triplets eternally fighting amongst themselves, but uniting to go against others (Phaedra)
Ranae - Butter wouldn't melt in this schemer's mouth. About fifteen and still as innocent looking as a five turn old. (Rade)
Sahara - Luckless victim of Kolen (Tyara)
Siyana - Rough an' tough tomboy! Get out of my way, worthless nannies! Stomp, stomp, glare, glare, frown. (Vanessa)
Sori - Mudpie-phobia! Don't step in the puddles! Eek, it's raining! Helphelphelp! Sob, sob. (Vanessa)
Swawa - And you thought Kolen was bad?? This girl's doing her best to follow in his footsteps. (Perisienne)
Wint - 14 turn old coward who still sucks his thumb, crawls into people's laps, cries for Mummy, etc. (Phaedra)
Ex-brats:
E'rp - One of the original NPC kids, Ewyrpin was an old nemesis of Pyrene's when she was a brat. He Impressed Wyath from Chayath's first clutch. (Rade; impression and dragon name by Pyrene)
Ko'en - Gone but not forgotten, Kolen Impressed blue Barbarianth from the same clutch as Wyath and left the nurseries to the delight of all (except the weyrlingmasters). (Tyara, the dragon-name suggested simultaneously by Mhari and Pyrene)
Morie (M'rin) and Peia (Pyrene) - After making an art out of harassing, flirting, stalking M'rin, they were Searched and Impressed greens Maurinith and Luvmyth (both suggested by Auri) respectively in Tiareth and Chiernnath's clutch. Surprisingly enough, M'rin did not transfer.
Cr'ash - As Crenash, Siannen's next-youngest brother, he was known for his lack of cleanliness. He's now become the latest brat Impression: to Bandicooth. (Siannen)
So there we go. Feel free to use any of them at will, and if you have another NPC brat you use frequently and would like to have here, just email me. Note: the nannies are not responsible for any of the NPCs' actions and definitely not the PCs'. Nursery policy is to blame everything on the (foster) parents. As for our PC brats, you want to meet them, then get out and RP with them! Foster them! Take one home for your weyr today!
