Gunwalloe Church Cove
Gunwalloe Church Cove is right next door to Poldhu Cove, and our visits to either invariably entailed a walk over the cliffs to the other. Church Cove (as we usually called it, but it's also referred to as simply Gunwalloe) was fairly similar to Poldhu except for the little church tucked against the cliffside, from which the cove gets its name. There was also a bridge further upstream which was a great place to find tadpoles, or simply throw stones for our dog, who had a passion for removing every rock she could pick up from the streambed and placing it on the bank.
I took the picture on the path between the two coves. If you're coming from Poldhu, this is your first view of Church Cove. You can see the little church roughly in the middle of the picture, by the cliffs. Over the other side of those cliffs is yet another cove, Dollar Cove. There are two shipwrecks offshore, both supposedly filled with gold, and treasure-hunters have found washed up coins on the beach. I've never seen any.
One of the things I like about this view, is that you get the rocky coastline which is so much a part of Cornwall for me, and also a glimpse of the patchwork of fields which is inland Cornwall. Again, we have the thrift along the cliffs and that springy, springy coastal grass! I used to love running across the grass on this walk, because it was so resilient it made cheap sandals feel like expensive trainers.
