Dear Lily,

You'll never guess who I saw the other day.

No, it wasn't John. I saw David.

He asked about you or I wouldn't mention it. He asked if you were okay so far from home. He said you were really homesick when you left for school. I know you were really homesick then; I remember. I told David you seemed to be doing fine. He nodded like I was lying. I didn't want to tell him about your boyfriend. I thought if anyone should tell him, you should. I don't know when you'll see him again (and maybe you won't ever see him). I wouldn't talk to him either if I could help it. I haven't seen him in almost a year and he just came into the shop and said:

"Hi Eliza. Have you talked to Lily?"

Like we were the best of friends and like we talked an hour before.

I was so shocked to see him that it took a minute or two to figure out who I was talking to. So I told him you wrote and he asked where D is. I told him she's in Montreal. He was pressing for more, but I had to get back to work. Some people came into the shop and were looking at the nice jewlery so I wanted to sell a little.

It is my job after all.

He got the hint and left, though, which was a relief. I'd forgotten he could be such a jerk. Really. Interupting me in the shop?

Anyway, I hope you don't end up with David bothering you on your short time at home. Enjoy your last week of work and I'll see you at school.

Eliza
