Casties, St. Lucia - the day we've been waiting for! Bus over mountainous winding roads which clearly provide training for fearless Bostonian cabdrivers, stand directly above Molten Lava!, and see the most beautiful coasts from afar.
Love at first sight, yeah mon |
Surprise! It's a harbor view from above! |
Widdle biddie goatsie aka lawn mower with an attitude |
Lori doesn't want to leave |
Smiling even though our tour-mates are scarier than the goat |
Driving past a banana farm. Blue bags make bunches ripen faster. or save bagging at the store. |
Stop at fishing village. Leah tries banana ketchup and
then suckers Lori into trying too |
First sight of the twin Piton mountains |
The Pitons can't be scaled without professional guides. We'd prefer to sit under the nice trees any day. |
Drive a while more to the other side of the island. Approaching the actual crater, we breathe deeply of the sulphuric fumes which the guide insists will make you feel younger. We'll take old and less stinky, thanks! |
Mini rainforest area inside crater, very close to the steam vents
|
Area of bubbling pits - a guide once fell through demonstrating that the crust was safe...he was caught and survived |
Onboard our catamaran afternoon tour, saying goodbye to the Pitons |
Ok, one more look at the Pitons (sniff) |
Another fishing village, very calm and beautiful |
Coastal view of the volcanic rim |
view of the lovely bay where our swimming was preempted by "Attack of The Killer Jellyfish!" on shipmates |
look at that house perched way up there... |
| last port of call and the grand buffet o' food |
