« Sonnet »

This is a Shakespearean sonnet that I had to write for English class, it turned out better than I thought it would...what do you think?

Curious costumes with red and black lace

Accompanied with masks for large and small.

Admittance only with a covered face

This is a masquerade ball, after all.

Beads that sparkle and flashy green feathers,

Almost a tropical bird when we dance.

Oh--how they fancy these get-togethers

Especially in the country of France.

Wondering, who, the peacock feather mask

And who beneath the white domino lies?

Vivid butterfly beside the wine cask,

A mask, a mask: the perfect disguise.

What’s this--a veil, a mask on the parade

Celebrate with me at the masquerade!
