Yugi Moto and Yami Yugi

I'll believe in the heart of the cards, and in the power that lies deep within my own heart...

Yugi is kind hearted and sweet boy. He learned how to play the duel monsters card game from his grandfather and is a powerful duelist. He believes in the heart of the cards and the powers of friendship. After receiving the Millennium Puzzle, Yugi felt another presence within him. At first it scared him, but soon he realized that this presence protected him.

Yugi and his dark half, Yami Yugi, get along remarkably well. Sometimes Yami Yugi doesn't listen to Yugi. When Yami Yugi battled Kaiba for his star chips, Yami Yugi ordered the attack to win the game. However, attacking would mean risking Kaiba's life. Yugi overpowers his dark side and allows Kaiba to win. This leaves Yugi shaken, but soon the relationship between him and his Yami is repaired. Yami Yugi wouldn't do anything to hurt Yugi or the people he cared about.

Seto Kaiba and Yugi are rivals. They are fairly evenly matched in power, but the way they think is different. Yugi believes in his friends and the heart of the cards. Kaiba, on the other hand, wishes to gain power and become the best any way that he can. This ends up being Kaiba's weakness and allows Yugi to defeat him.

Yugi always wished for true friends, and when he finally completed his Millennium Puzzle, his wish came true. Jounouchi, the boy who once picked on him, now became his closest friend, and that friendship has only grown since.

Throughout the series, Yugi and Jounouchi fight side by side and even when they fight each other, they still maintain their strong sense of friendship. Later in the series when Malik takes control of Jounouchi's mind, it's Yugi that tells Yami Yugi to let him fight his friend. Even when Jounouchi is threatening to kill him, Yugi still believes in his true friend. He even tells Jounouchi that he loves him. In the end, Yugi is able to free Joey and risks his life to do so.

All of Yugi's other friends are important to him too. He'll do anything to keep them safe - even if it means his own destruction.

Yugi is also owner of the god card, Osiris. Yugi's favorite card is the Dark Magician and he seems to favor Magician type cards, as he is known to use Dark Magician Girl aswell.

Yugi is the main character of the series. And through it all, Yugi must not only overcome the trials and tribulations that face him, but learn to face himself, and let his true power shine through.

When Yugi first completed the Millennium Puzzle, he got more than he bargained for. A dark presence invaded his mind. This presence was Yami Yugi - a mysterious spirit from ancient times.

Unlike some of the spirits inside other items, Yami Yugi isn't all that evil. He acts more as a guardian to Yugi and protects him from danger.

He is a master of the duel monsters card game. When Yugi is in a duel, Yami Yugi will sometimes take over and assist his little friend. When Yugi transforms into Yami Yugi, his physical appearance changes slightly. He grows taller and his expression is harsher than little Yugi's. Yami Yugi is stronger than his little friend as well. In the shadow realm, Yugi has trouble holding himself together. When he begins to break down, Yami Yugi usually takes over and fights for his friend.

Yami Yugi is incredibly loyal to his other half. At first he only believes in winning duels, but soon he learns that friendship is important aswell.

Deep within Yami Yugi is a mysterious past. His memories have been erased, but his identity as an ancient pharaoh is revealed as the story progresses.

When Yami is not in control, he spends most of his time in his soul room. His soul room, however, is stranger than any other ever encountered. It's a labyrinth of paths and doors. Very few that enter his soul room ever make it out. Also, the complexity of his soul room suggests that he is a lot more elaborate than he seems. The truth about him is hidden in secrets. After all, he is an ancient spirit trapped in a puzzle. Who knows what he really is?
