Project Abstract
I (Reginald K.
Ford) have been working on a project to create a system of collected
electronics that would allow me to remotely adjust and control many
different things by computer. Why is this relevant? Once something can
be controlled by computer, it can be controlled through the internet,
allowing the world to be further advanced in keeping "in touch". I've
accomplished controlling a remote controlled car by computer through
the parallel port, allowing me control of the car within about 200 feet
(this is C.C.U.V 1). My current goal is to advance that, and allow
geographical range using a cell phone in the car (C.C.U.V 2). Below is
a diagram of how I want the final system to be. My project definitely
fits under the category of physical computing.
Where I am at in
this diagram
The diagram above shows how project C.C.U.V 2 will be set up. I am
currently working on the P.O.T.S (plain old telephone system) connection
between my computer and the Basic X 24 chip that will be implanted into
the car. This is the Basic Stamp phase
of my project timeline. Getting a connection from my modem through the
P.O.T.S and to my car is the hardest part of project C.C.U.V 2. It's hard
because I have no idea how versatile the "handshaking" of the modem is,
and therefore, I cannot depict the point of error when the connection
fails. No matter how hard it seems, I'm not one bit (or byte) discouraged
about completing my project. |
What's Finished
- Gained control of C.C.U.V 1.0 by steering wheel and joystick!
(2-11-2002)
- Began C.C.U.V 2.0 buy purchasing Basic Stamp Microcomputer
(2-13-2002)
|
Key Milestones Ahead
- I must figure out how to start a live serial connection with the
Basic X 24
- Then, I'll use the connection to update the position of the servos
that will control the steering and speed of the car!

Member News
- Osman Malik has been cut from the C.C.U.V crew, and perhaps will
never return.. Reasons for his termination in the assistance of the
project can not be explained, but, truth be told, C.C.U.V 2 may move
faster without this member.
- In replacement, I'm having Ben Wise, Andrew Scutt, Brian Owens, and
Ray V., enter as the new crew of C.C.U.V. This team is well fitting for
my needs, check the member list to read about them.

Help me research!
I need help finding a way
to get a modem connection to my Basic X 24 microchip, because, I don't
know exactly how to set up the connection between a Basic X 24 and a
Cermetek Micro modem. I looked in the manual for the Cermetek, and I
didn't get far with it. If you can find the answer on how to get a 24k
Bell Standard POTS Rj11 connection with my stamp and my computer, you'll
be mentioned on my member list. Thanks.
