Thursday 6.3.02 | Mad few days spent rushing around Cologne, trying to generally sort Anna out and get her into her halls and everything like that. Itīs been pleasantly and surprisingly successful and easy - we got her into her room here, got her registered with Uni and the authorities, even bought a shower curtain so that she and I can wash without holding the shower-head-thingy round about our knees in order not to soak the entire bathroom. Apart from the obvious and large culture-shock, everything is fine. Cologneīs not half as pretty as we were expecting, but seems like a nice enough place. Nervous about going to Berlin on Monday because I need to find a flat there (stressful thought) but Iīm sure itīll be OK. Off to Ikea tomorrow for enormous shopping trip to furnish Annaīs room, and maybe even, if we`re really lucky, a journey to the local town of Titz. More soon. Saturday 8.3.03 Cool few days in Cologne, but getting more and more stressed out about the prospect of finding a place in Berlin on the horizon. Iīm not one to be prone to getting worked up (I mean seriously worked up) and it generally takes me at least a week to calm down again, so hopefully the hunt will be short and, well, sweet. IKEA trip didnīt happen as we didnīt get round to it, but we have seen quite a bit of Cologne and Bonn. Weird towns - I imagined them to be the other way round somehow. Cologne is big, imposing, quite ugly but a cool place to be. Bonn is small, pretty, and just doesnīt seem to be the place for the old capital of West Germany. But there we go. Seen the impressive cathedral here - gloomily lookimg over the entire town and the Rhine, and some of the old markets and so on which are nice. Next entry from Berlin... Thursday 13.3.03 Quick message to say that the endless hunt for a flat goes on. Will write long blog soon, probably next week from England when I've got my life sorted. Until then.
