Thursday 10.4.03 | HAD the inevitable welcome-the-silly-foreign-students session today which was inevitably deathly boring, but necessary I guess. Apart from that, spectacular waste of a day, arsing around uni, more getting my bearings. Off to the glitzy Swedish world of IKEA tomorrow and then clubbing so more this weekend sometime... Friday 11.4.03 Unwisely acquired some garlic sauce yesterday, dumped it on some pasta last night and my goodness me am I farting like the clappers today. Trek to IKEA this morning to add a little Swedish sunshine to my life. Pleased to report that the service in there is just as crap as it is in England, but picked up a few bits to make my room look a little more gemütlich (too lazy to explain, find a German) so I guess that made it worth it. :-) Saturday 12.4.03 BLURGH. Seem to be having quite a few non-days, like the one I have just had. Went out with the SOCRATES people I know last night and ended up in the most random bar ever, dancing to 20s music (anyone remember 'Gravy on my mashed potato' of Sister Act fame or is that just me being sad?) and drinking too much, but it was an alright night. Got up this morning with my alarm ringing at some ungodly hour to heave myself out of bed for an introduction to the city library which I had dumbly signed up for. Arrived chronically late having taken, in my hungover state, the most indirect route possible to where I wanted to go (would have been quicker to charter a camel and go via Iran) and breathlessly asked the strange-looking lady at the front desk where the tour was meeting. 'Don't worry,' says strange woman airily, 'it hasn't started yet. It's a very general tour anyway, just about the history and architecture of the building.' Praying with all my might that she would be wrong and it would be a 20-minute job about how to get a ticket and find books, I found various faces I recognised, and, having exchanged the usual meaningless pleasantries and platitudes about the night before, reported what I had just heard. They also hoped and prayed that I had either misheard or got it wrong. But I hadn't. Shit. An hour and a half later of wandering round, looking at scale models, finding out how many fire-sprinklers the bloody building had (no joke,) the tour ended, and we were told that in order to actually register for a reading ticket, we needed to come back another time. Aaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhh. Never mind. Not much else done today, off out to another party tonight, dahlings, and then have cleverly roped self into going bowling tomorrow night. Nice. Sunday 13.4.03 CELEBRATING triple fact that I discovered an English shop the other day where I can get Heinz baked beans (was actually a while ago but I forgot to put it on here, had more important things to put on here) and that it´s a gorgeous day here, and that I don't have to go bowling tonight by moseying down to the cafe district and sitting in the sun with a good book. It's actually quite warm today, which is a welcome change from the snow of last week. As for the bowling, was going to go with a guy who lives here (a real German! wooo) whom I vaguely know as he was a long-term resident of the God-shop where I worked over summer. Nice guy, but really didn't want to go bowling. But luckily he cancelled this morning so going to the cincema instead. Rah. :-) Tuesday 15.4.03 Various friends descending during the next week so might not be much time to fling stuff up on here, but I will see what I can do. It´s been a good few days - sunny, warm, happy Mark :-) |
