The Dollmage - by Martine Leavitt

Name: Annakey

Appearance: tall with curly brown hair

Gift: the talent to be a Dollmage

Story:

The villiage is gathered to stone Annakey, the young woman who is bound before them. By her side is Manal, the young man who seems to be her only ally. But before she can be killed, her story must first be told by the powerful Dollmage, she that makes the story of the town.
The story is narrated in first person by the Dollmage, a wise old woman with a captivating voice. She tells the story of the two girls, Annakey and Renoa, who were born on the same day, the day it was declared the new Dollmage would be born.
Renoa is the one the Dollmage chooses to teach, but the girl grows up trying to work as little as she can, only interesting in the power being Dollmage could give her. Annakey learns of her love and talent for dollmaking in secret, not releazing the threat she may be posing to her people, for a villiage can only have one doll mage, and not realizing just how deep is Renoa's hatred for her.
This is a rather thin book, but quite engaging. You might find it difficult choosing between reading it all at once and reading slowly to savor it.
